“On arrival at the property we were delighted with the idyllic location.”

It really is beautiful to wake up to that view. But still really close to Tintagel and Boscastle, just a few minutes in the car for both. Our neighbours walked into Tintagel every day they were there. The communal field was fantastic. They seem to have thought of everything, even down to your own washing line. The only downside for us was we were surprised to find that our dog wasn't allowed downstairs at all, there is a gate they ask you to use to stop your dog having access to the ...

Our neighbours walked into Tintagel every day they were there. The communal field was fantastic. They seem to have thought of everything, even down to your own washing line. The only downside for us was we were surprised to find that our dog wasn't allowed downstairs at all, there is a gate they ask you to use to stop your dog having access to the bedrooms/bathroom. Our dog is only 10 months old, so still a puppy really and has never been separated from us like that. I understand not being allowed on beds etc. but we had bought her own bed with us. We couldn't leave her alone so I ended up sleeping upstairs with her.

“No welcome pack which after a 9 hour drive to find no milk -we had taken tea and coffee- was a huge let down.”

Had to quickly jump back in the car to search for a shop before they closed as it was after 5.30pm. Says dog friendly but it really isn’t, over the years we have always found dog bowls at the property so no longer take our own, no bowls so she had to eat out of a plastic container that we had and her travel water bowl which is very small. Also, luckily we had taken her bed as there was nothing for her, not even a blanket. The garden isn’t enclosed which isn’t mentioned so she couldn’t go out for a sniff around on her own, it is also shared with the other properties. No hairdryer either so I had flat, floppy hair for almost week, I haven’t stayed anywhere that didn’t have a hair dryer since the 80’s. Unfortunately we didn’t find the beds or pillows comfortable, they weren’t horrendous but just felt old. Having got the moans out of the way, the cottage itself is in a lovely location, with very nice walks. The WiFi connection was excellent and a smart TV is always appreciated. The shower was very good, with good pressure and easy to regulate the temperature. No issue at all with parking. Unfortunately we left early because of the reasons stated above.

Hi, Thank you for your feedback as it’s always useful. We do provide a welcome bottle of wine for guests but recognise that this might not work for everyone so we’ll review. There is a hairdryer that is kept on the top shelf of the wardrobe in the main bedroom but will double check it hasn’t gone missing. We have a dog ourselves so we love our furry friends however some guests are allergic to dogs so we have to consider them as well. The downstairs is fully carpeted whilst upstairs is a wooden dog friendly flooring which after a fun day on the beech and in the sea is a great doggie friendly area. “Perfect location and a good size for 4 people.”

We enjoyed the location most and the views from the living area, so the upside down nature of the cottage was great. The outside area was lovely too and having neighbours. We would recommend the cottage being for 4 people (or 5 at most). The double bed/bunk room was not big enough for that size of bed so it would have been better as a single. We were really disappointed that the window in the bunk room had not been replaced as it was completely rotten and dangerous. We did have a very comfortable stay and the beds were comfortable and it was lovely and quiet. The living area was a little cramped and we would agree with other previous guests that taking out an item of furniture would be beneficial and maybe rearrange the furniture a bit. However, this living area was comfortable and we enjoyed relaxing there. Big bonus of the cottage was the proximity to the coast and the Rocky Valley. A short walk either round the coast path or past Bossiney Bay campsite took us to the most amazing beaches (at low tide) of Benoath Cove and Bossiney Bay. Thoroughly recommend. On the whole, a great cottage and near to lots of places to visit. A really lovely week.

“The bathroom needs renovating.”

Under the sink, the paint is peeling. The roof needs to be repaired because water was dripping onto the cooker, and a new one had to be delivered, so we couldn't cook from Saturday until Wednesday. Several steps on the stairway to the cottage are damaged.

“On the plus side - Very tranquil location, good parking, plenty of character, farmyard smells and sounds, fantastic sea view, a rainforest next door, quite spacious (especially upstairs area), clean and well appointed, comfortable beds.”

On the bad side - nothing serious really. A little too much furniture upstairs (I would remove the coffee table). Wood burner needs a new door seal fitted. Bathtub had some strange marks. Water from taps was very hot. Some windows were old wooden ones and had rusty fittings and one window frame was rotten (in the kids bedroom). On the approach there were some overgrown plants leaning into the path, just at the bottom of the steps, that was a minor inconvenience. 9 out of 10 overall. One of the nicer cottages we have been to so far.

“The property was smaller than it looks but still adequate for a 3 night stay,the kitchen was well equipped, the beds were uncomfortable for us (maybe not others)so I slept on the sofa and my brother on the bedroom floor, could do with a lick of paint but even so we all enjoyed our stay and would probably stay there again.”

“Beautful cottage in the most fantastic location.”

Cottage had most things we needed for a weeks stay, Woodburner was a lovely addition after a wet day exploring! Bedding clean,fridge clean etc. A few things I would change the bathroom needs modernising the bath was slippy and the kids slipped a few times, shower screen was a bit dangerous. A few more basics would have been nice such a as more than 1 toilet roll, some tea towels and perhaps a little welcome pack of tea, milk etc as most cottages provide these although the wine was a lovely touch.maybe some board games or books for rainy days as you don't always think to pack these. Husband commented in the duvets were small too and thin but overall we had a fantastic stay at threshings cottage and would certainly recommend it as a place for a family of 4 to stay a week. ... we can see why it is advertised for 6 and not 7 even tho 7 beds are there as the cottage is snug for 7 (so the owners could remove the triple bunk and put a double in this would make it comfier for 2 in that room as the triple bunk was not comfy for a week we kept banging our heads on the bunk.)

The welcome wine is a very nice touch thank you, as we had booked a self catering holiday we had of course taken our own tea, coffee, etc! The lady who looks after the properties is extremely helpful and friendly. Yes we would highly recommend this cottage.

“We booked the cottage for its location and access to Tintagel.”

Unfortunately, on arrival we found the cottage was not what we were expecting, being 1 of 4 units with all outside space shared with the other three units. The occupants of the other units were holidaying together and tended to monopolise the outside area, which made us feel hemmed in, so after staying one night we moved to another cottage. The listing needs to be much clearer in this regard. The site is obviously more suited to groups of families holidaying together and for those looking for a suitable location, this is a good choice. Our problem was therefore chiefly with the way the property has been listed. For those seeking a bit more solitude, I suggest looking elsewhere. The owners kindly left a bottle of wine and the property was clean. One issue of note was the noisy plumbing, which sounded like the QE2 mooring every time the toilet was flushed.

“Cottage looked tired outside and in.”

Steps leading to front door was cracked and uneven. Cottage ok for 4 people but too small for seven. Kitchen and bathroom need updating. Flush when pulled sounds like it's roaring at me. This sound went off at night when toilet was not used, freaky. Cutlery too small ok for children. Nowhere to put drinks down when sat on sofa, had to use a kitchen chair. No coffee or tea given to guests. Thankfully we brought some shopping with us. Only a quarter of toilet roll in bathroom again glad I brought my own. Cooker grill did not work and no instruction manual. We will not be staying at this Cottage again.

Sorry your stay wasn’t fully satisfactory. The cottage is part of an old Cornish barn so the outside is made of Cornish stone and slate dating back a couple of centuries however all the windows are brand new and the interior of the cottage was fully refurbished fairly recently. We’ve checked the oven and it seems to be working without any issues and is only 6months old but we will make sure the instructions are clear in the future and ourselves and our lovely caretaker Katherine are always available if guests have any queries. Katherine always leaves two new toilet rolls so hopefully they were also available after the quarter one was used. We also made the decision to leave a nice bottle of wine for our guests but we do take on board that everyone has different tastes so sometimes tea or coffee may be more appropriate.. We do hope you will return to Cornwall and hopefully the weather will be kinder next time. Many Thanks Mike & Christine Property Owner

“Threshings was a great place to stay, near the SW coastal path and other places to visit (Tintagel, St Nectan's Glen waterfall very close by).”

Lovely views of the coast from the cottage. The cottage was cosy and warm. The cottage was fairly well equipped, although it could probably do with new cutlery. The broadband/wifi was unusable- the speed was 1mbs at best. This may not always matter, but it would be fair to update the listing in case a guest has to rely on it. I would also suggest that the double bed with the integral bunk is changed for just a double bed as this would still offer 6 beds (as listed) and be much more comfortable for those who sleep in that room. Being unable to sit up in bed and accidently banging your head isn't ideal! It would be helpful to use 'What Three Words' to locate the property as the postcode takes you to the centre of Tintagel www.what3words.com

“Lovely cottage: clean, warm and inviting when we arrived after a long drive.”

Beautiful looking out to sea with a coffee each morning and the walk down rocky valley past the stone age carvings then along the coastal path was stunning. We thought the oven wasn’t working and messaged the owners Mike and Christine. Immediate reply; just needed the clock set then worked fine. 1 piece of advice, the washing machine drawer doesn’t open so buy laundry detergent that goes straight in the drum. Would 100% stay again

“Lovely upside-down converted barn with great views from the lounge across fields to the coast where we could see waves breaking against the cliffs.”

For us the location was excellent with easy walks for us to Tintagel, the coast path, the Rocky Valley and St Nectan's Glen and waterfall. When we were there, in mid-September the location was very quiet. We were able to open the upstairs doors and listen to the owls in the woods nearby and the waves on the cliffs some 500m or so distant. There was plenty of room and the barn was clean and well-equipped.

“The double bed in the main bedroom was incredibly soft and uncomfortable which resulted in acute backache for me.”

A bit disappointed that there was no welcome pack of tea bags, coffee, milk etc. We arrived late and the nearest shop was another drive away when we were already tired after a long drive to get there. The cottage was lovely though and we did have a good holiday.

“Perfect cottage with everything you need!”

The view is calm and gives a sneak peek of the beauty that surrounds you. I would only mention the shower screen, it was quite tricky to move. It couldn't go in our outwards, which made it difficult to reach the tap. I was worried we might damage it, as it seems badly fitted. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

“Arrived 22nd of December for our Christmas break,when we first opened door we was pleasantly surprised to see a Christmas tree and card wellcomeing us.”

Cottage was clean and comfortable, washing machine and dishwasher was a god send having four kids who eat a lot and get wet and dirty after a day out on the north Cornwall costs. Lovely views over the coast can be seen on clear days from the cottage. The cottage is accessed by 12 steps which are made of slate so can be a bit slippery under foot when wet but hand rails are there to help you. Would definitely stop here again.

“Lovely open-plan cottage, fantastic sea views which varied so much depending on the weather.”

A wood burner had been fitted just a few weeks ago and we really loved coming home after a walk in the wind and rain and sitting in front of the roaring fire. Katherine, the caretaker, went out of her way to provide help if needed.

“Cottage was perfect for us as a couple & our dog.”

The enclosed field and near by river walks were perfect for safe dog exercising. The coastal walks, river walks, waterfalls and it’s proximity to Tintagel & Boscastle made this a cottage we would love to re book next year. We only used one bedroom but the other 2 bunk bedrooms would mean the cottage could easily accommodate a family of 6/7 (one of the bunks is a double on the bottom)

“Let's address the elephant in the room first.”

.. as a previous reviewer stated, there are ONLY TWO TEA TOWELS. Yes, the cottage is extremely well equipped, very comfortable set in peaceful countryside, with beautiful sea views, it is a perfect setting. Yes, there is a dishwasher and a draining board and if necessary shops that sell additional plate drying equipment and/or numerous restaurants in Cornwall where they will wash AND dry your plates for you... but the limited tea towel numbers is definitely the most important issue here - truly holiday ruining stuff! :-) Joking aside - a couple of practical comments: Dogs - the location, (close to beaches, St Nectan's Glen and numerous walks/public footpaths), the lawn at the front and the cottage being pet friendly makes this a perfect cottage for dog owners. However, please note that there is no enclosed garden therefore if you have young or adventurous dogs, you will not be able to let them out without a lead. Also, the owner does not allow dogs in the bedrooms. WiFi - The cottage has WiFi but it was a bit temperamental at times. Whilst this was a definite bonus for us as it can be a relief to be away from a screen, I am also aware, (being self-employed), that sometimes it is necessary for emails/work reasons. The cottage is in a very rural location therefore it is to be expected that their WiFi is not the fastest, it was fine for probably 80% of the time but don't expect to rely on it. In summary, the cottage is truly fabulous - the views, the garden, the proximity to local amenities, the clean, pretty, comfortable and well equipped living space. It is perfect... unless you are a volume tea towel fan! :-)

I had to phone twice to find out where the property actually was and even then I then had to speak to the owner in order to track it down. The property is lovely and in an amazing area, I don't know why you aren't clearer about where it is.

TINTAGEL

Camelford 5.9 miles; Wadebridge 13 miles.

Tintagel, home of the legendary King Arthur’s Castle, whose ruins dominate the cliffside just outside the village, is a popular but not overcrowded tourist destination, surrounded by the sea, rocky coves and stunning scenery. Several beaches, including nearby Trebarwith Strand and Bossiney Cove, are within easy reach and surfing is the main attraction for those who love the water. Tintagel has several pubs and restaurants and the Old Post Office (National Trust) is a must. For the energetic, the South West Coast Path passes through the village and in both directions it winds its way along the cliffs and down to the water’s edge through dramatic countryside. Head north along the path and within a short distance is the beautiful village of Boscastle with its quaint quay and village pubs for refreshment. Further afield are the surfing meccas of Newquay and Bude, with their resort attractions, while the open spaces of Bodmin Moor, the Eden Project, Padstow, Camel Estuary and Port Isaac are all within a short but scenic drive.
