Entering the cottage, it had an awful smell of dog - even though it's pet friendly, did not expect that smell. Flooring needed a thorough cleaning. Fridge is grubby and appears to have a fault with temperature control. A lot of our food was spoiled overnight, as it had frozen! Fridge door felt insecure too. Oven tins greasy - I had to clean the grill before use. Extractor fan filter clogged with grease - pungent odour and potential fire risk. Inside the kettle is very discoloured. Looks like it's very old and probably needs replacing. Dining chairs very rickety and felt unsafe. Had to clean the ring of scum from the bath before use. Overall, this cottage looks like it needs attention, as it seems to have been neglected in areas.
Thank you for your thoughts and this is highly unusual as can be seen by our other glowing reviews from guests with great scores. Dining chairs were checked and are safe, the extractor fan has been changed on the cooker hood. There is a whistling kettle for the hob and also an electric kettle which we have checked and has some colouration just from boiling water but is definitely clean. The fridge has been checked and the bulb may need replacing however the tempertaure is definitely fine. Sykes Cottages do provide a contact number for guests pre arrival, if they had been contacted we would have been only too happy to assist you at the time if only we had known, we are sorry we weren't given thje opportunity to do so.
