    “Overall, we enjoyed our stay.”

    The property and the site as a whole has seen better days, and could do with some work to bring it back up to the high standards it potentially has. When we arrived, it smelled musty, and this smell continued to come from the main bathroom throughout our stay. The water pressure made using the shower cubicle unusable. The floor in the kitchen was ridiculously creaky, and sounded even worse from the 2 bedrooms below. There was only one "quick" cycle available on the dishwasher, and it ...

    The property and the site as a whole has seen better days, and could do with some work to bring it back up to the high standards it potentially has. When we arrived, it smelled musty, and this smell continued to come from the main bathroom throughout our stay. The water pressure made using the shower cubicle unusable. The floor in the kitchen was ridiculously creaky, and sounded even worse from the 2 bedrooms below. There was only one "quick" cycle available on the dishwasher, and it wasn't good enough to clean efficiently. On arrival, we had to re-wash a lot of the plates and cutlery, as they had dried food on them. The configuration in the living room makes no sense at all. It has been designed, so that if you want the patio doors open, it completely covers the tv. Also, how the sofas are positioned, doesn't allow all to see the tv. Both fans available were faulty. The tower one turns off if you turn oscillating on. The other fan's blades hit the cage as it spins. The lower fridge door milk shelf is hanging off, and makes the fridge tough to use. The general grounds of the park need a lot of maintenance. Most of the fencing is rotten or broken. The games room is very limited, and we were dissapointed to find the table tennis table broken in half. A lot of these are simple fixes, to make the place that bit more comfortable. We think the place is a good size for 6, but 8 would be too many. It's a really peaceful place, we love the forest feel, and where the lodge was positioned. Other lodges seemed far closer together, but we felt isolated, in a good way. We enjoyed the pub, going 4 times. Twice for decent meals, and also to play bingo and join in the quiz. We would recommend! We would stay again, but would hope for the things highlighted, to be addressed.

The property

Valley Lodge 61 is a modern lodge set in the leafy Tamar Valley Resort, in Callington: a collection of purpose built and privately owned self-catering holiday properties. Ideally located to explore the delights of Devon and Cornwall, there are some local attractions within easy reach, too.

This detached property is peacefully situated away from roads and traffic noise.

It boasts four ground floor bedrooms including: one double room with doors opening to the terrace, two twin rooms and a further double.

There is a Jack and Jill family bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC plus an additional ground floor shower room with a basin and WC.

The contemporary kitchen /dining area and sitting room is located on the first floor with doors leading to the balcony – suitable for al fresco dining.

Just a short walk from the on-site leisure facilities including indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, bar, shop and reception.

During the school holidays there is a busy program of entertainment including quiz nights and karaoke plus sporting activities (seasonal, subject to availability, extra charges apply) including archery, rock climbing, canoeing and abseiling.

Within a short drive is Cotehele, a Tudor house and valley garden estate set above the River Tamar or a little further afield you can visit the glorious sandy beach at Whitsand Bay with dramatic scenery and sheer cliffs.

Equally accessible is the scenic Dartmoor National Park with rolling moorland and seemingly endless historic sites, tors and monuments - a rambler's dream.

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
