The Chace

This was our second stay in this comfortable accommodation and I’m sure we will be back!

The location is great for touring Cornwall and the 5 minute flat walk to the beach is a real bonus. There are also good places to eat to suit a variety of budgets in very close proximity. Well worth a visit!

hi felt that the house was short of cutlery - specifically knives could do with a butter dish.

Disappointed that when we arrived the outside bin was 2/3 full. Found that the tv smart features sometimes fail due to loss of internet signal downstairs. An HDMI lead would assist to plug into laptop when this happens Otherwise a beautiful house in a lovely location. We have booked several times before and plan to do so again next year. Its a well fitted house fabulously close to the sea and we would highly recommend.

Great property with everything you need for a family holiday.

The kitchen was well equipped for family use and self catering (plastic children’s plates/cups and also children’s cutlery and lots of bowls for cooking). The offer of a change of towels and bedsheets mid-stay was welcomed for a two week stay.

The Chase is very clean and tidy, nothing you really need to take as all facility’s are taken care of.

Beach is super accessible which makes this a perfect base to explore Portreath and Cornwall. Highly recommend to all for a visit!

Another brilliant stay at The Chace, very much feels like home from home.

Can't wait to come back! The cottage is very well equipped. One thing we did find when relaxing in the evenings is that the TV in the lounge quite small.

The Chace was just as advertised which was great.

Really comfortable and very well equipped as a home from home from washing up liquid and tea towel to hoover and clothes pegs. Great for an active holiday of cycling, swimming and walking. 5 min walk from the beach and fab to have parking at the property aswell. Local pub is great with cafe and shops available too within 5 min walk.

We loved our stay at "The Chace" we chose this place for convenience as we have family in Portreath!

And knowing what parking can be like especially in summer time we had no worries as parking is at the property. On approach we were pleasantly surprised as it looked tidy from the outside with its own driveway at the rear. On entry to the property it smelled clean and not musty and there is a good sized kitchen diner that had everything you need! Well equipped. Light and airy with a lovely welcome pack. The lounge was lovely too with a smart t v which was good as main tv channels in the area are limited for free view channels. We loved the nautical theme through the home. Internet was good too for general use. Stairs are nice and wide. Bedrooms were a good size as was the bathroom and all light and airy and clean. Main bed was super comfy for us! Peter and Jackie have really put great effort into making this a home from home for their guests. If you go on holiday looking for dust or 1 hair you will find it but compared to the many holiday homes we have stayed in around cornwall this was in the top three without question. We loved it and appreciated it and will return. Being a pet friendly home we were surprised there was no doggy smells considering it is close to a beach where dogs get wet! The only 1 thing I would mention is a new can opener maybe but that's all we could complain about lol Loved it and thank you

The chace has everything you could want on a holiday. Love the addition of the dishwasher and bigger fridge/freezer.Perfect location for Portreath.

Lovely comfortable cottage.

My only criticism would be the washing line needs replacing, as when you put clothes on it, it had no tension. Overall fantastic place to stay and we loved out time here.

Such a lovely comfortable clean house with everything you need.

So thoughtful to provide milk on arrival and some delicious Cornish scones, also the doggy treats were a lovely gesture, unfortunately my dog couldn’t eat them, but was such a nice thought. The only advice I would recommend is some WD40 for the back door handle as it got a little stuck a couple of times. Will definitely be returning again. Thank you for letting us stay.

Loved our week at The Chace - great location and very comfortable.

We were informed beforehand of the addition of a fridge freezer and that unfortunately the oven had stopped working - these things happen and it just meant we got to try out the nearby Atlantic Bar and Cafe which did good food and cakes! Hope to return sometime.

The property suited all our needs for a family of 5 plus a dog.

The location close to the beach made day trips to the beach that much easier. Overall very please with the property. Note for the owners - there is a roof leak in the porch above mirror. When rains a wet patch appears. Shower screen seal at the bottom needs attention. It does not stop the water from the shower and it runs down the side of the bath onto the floor and at times onto the landing. Clearly been happening for sometime as the inner door frame closest to both is rotting. No criticism at all.

Great house, located a very short walk from the beach, which is very dog friendly in February.

Access to coastal path and mining trails easy. Lots of cafes and a few shops nearby. House had everything we needed, welcomed with provisions for a cream tea. More than enough equipment in the kitchen to be able to cater for ourselves. Fridge is small with tiny, slightly iced up freezer section, but we managed. Warm and cosy, especially as weather was so mild, beds are lovely. Great place to explore south west Cornwall.

We have booked The Chace on a number of occasion's and have always been satisfied with the quality of the property.

On this occasion not so much, the cleaning was definitely below the standard of previous times we have been. It was very dusty behind the sofas, TV in the lounge and bedroom. The plug sockets and door in lounge was not cleaned. Generally the house smells really damp and was extremely cold when we arrived. Once we cleaned and warmed the house we did enjoy our stay. In my opinion I think the property could do with updating and a dishwasher and under counter freezer added. The freezer compartment of the fridge is totally inadequate for a stay for six people. Especially when it is all iced up in side. Which it was when we tried to use it. For the above reasons I am not sure I will return to The Chace next year ☹️

Not really a modern property, small TV and fridge and dated furnishings, however it was in a good location for exploring the region and was clean and warm.

Good directions and communication from the owner and plenty of useful information provided.

The Chace was a lovely house in a great location, close to the beach and the SW Coastal path.

Our only issue was that the internet wasn't working when we arrived and Kim, the agent in Portreath wasn't able to help. We managed to figure it out though by plugging the internet into the test socket, which suggests an internal wiring issue in the house.

Really enjoyed our stay at the Chace, lovely and close level walk to the beach.

The Chace is good.

As a family of 5 we thought we could have used a bigger fridge freezer. Also TV in lounge is small by today’s standards. We were disappointed by the lack of cleaning supplies available to be able to maintain the standard of cleanliness. Hoover bag was full and wet and smelt of dog. Phoned management company but got no response back at all. That was disappointing. For money paid would expect better from them.

I love this property for its convenience and location.

The kitchen facilities are good and the lounge, bedrooms are fine. I do feel the bathroom needs an update; the toilet is dated and the shower is weak. Just being honest with what I feel can be a lovely place to stay. Thanks

This is about the 7th or 8th time we have stayed at the Chace.

Its got everything you could want, a beach close by, all the amenities you need, a great location for touring the rest of Cornwall. What more can I say.

We had everything we needed for our stay.

The house was clean and tidy and lots of games to play which helped as the weather wasn’t great. Lovely big kitchen table was great as we had two teenagers having to revise for mock exams. More than happy.

Ideally located and so close to all that Portreath has to offer. The "feel" of the property is of comfort and welcoming. Looking forward to when we can return.

Hi We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the The Chace.

I lived in Portreath and was a mining Prospector, home from home but in a different county at present. I will hopefully come back to The Chace as it felt very welcoming, really lovely, clean and more… One note I would like to make is the amount of emails from the agency regarding next holiday etc on a similar note, I hadn’t even arrived yet!! Felt rather stressed by them however cannot fault their efficiency. Less emails please. Thank you Hope to be there again !

Location of the property is perfect, just a two min walk to the beach & close to lots of places to visit. We found everything we needed in the house & the bed was really comfortable Would definitely recommend The Chace and will hopefully return again

This lovely property is in a fantastic position.

It is walking distance (just a few minutes) of a beach, a couple of cafes, three pubs and a shop. It is also a good position for exploring Cornwall itself with Newquay only 35 or so minutes away and the same for St Ives. Portreath and Cornwall itself is very dog friendly and we are thinking of going back next year we enjoyed it so much.

Amazing property.

Clean, spacious and very comfortable. The welcome pack was unexpected but very welcome. Easy to find. Great location. 10 out of 10 on all aspects of our stay. Thank you for everything.

Our third visit in less than 4 months.

We love Portreath, having former family connections in the area, and always choose this property as a base. Local amenities are everything one needs without spoiling the local feel. A sound mix of locals and visitors, just go with the flow and enjoy.

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at the property and I have booked again for next year.

The Chace is a lovely property offering very comfortable furniture, beds and the bed linen crisp and clean.

As mentioned in previous reviews the property could do with updating. Our stay was in January the electric heating was a little insufficient at times. The owner has put additional heaters in the property but not always practical. Bath sheets would be nice rather than bath towels. Everything else is perfect, as is all the extras. The welcome tray was simply delicious. Thank you so much Great location, literally 2-3 minutes walk to beach. Very welcoming local people. Three pubs in walking distance. The Basset Arms was a favourite for us, food is great and reasonably priced.

Great accommodation, perfectly located for what we want!

The location of The Chace was ideal for us and the places we wanted to visit.

Some good local facilities such as a very pleasant pub, Portreath Arms. A very good bakery down the road. It was good to be able to walk to the beach. Many positives all round.

This was our first stay in Portreath and we found The Chace a great place to stay.

It was very clean, well equipped and lovely and comfortable. The cream tea welcome was a nice surprise. Great location for exploring the North Cornwall coastline.

The property was home away from home

Cleanliness could have been better, mould in the bathroom, black scum build up on windows.

Windows inside were dirty, someone’s clothes in the wardrobe. Freezer was unusable due to the size and ice build up. Garden gate was hard work to get in and out of. Beds were extremely uncomfortable, especially main bedroom - every time you moved everyone in the house knew about it. Welcome pack was a nice touch, Great location, close to the beach

The Chace provided a great location for getting out and about.

It was immaculately cleaned and has been decorated with new soft furnishings. We couldn't fault it.

Being near the beach

Hi We have been to the Chace many times as we enjoy the location, We find now that there needs to be a few upgrades, the creaking floorboards upstairs need attention as this is very noisy to the exstent that you dont want to attempt the bathroom through the night as they are that bad it wakes the whole household!

!!! The decor now needs updating and the furniture all bringing into the 21st century. We love Portreath as it is my families birthplace but we have now decided this will be the last time at the Chace shame as the location is great. Kind Regards Mr David J Trewren and family.

The house was very clean and very comfortable and we felt safe about staying there during these times we are now having to learn to live with.

It was excellently located with a short walk to the beach, harbour and coastal walks.

It was ideal for a family with boys that love the sea for body boarding and rock pools. The house location is ideal to travel and see other resorts in Cornwall. The local amenities are very good too. Parking was included at the property, had good clean facilities and felt very welcoming. We had a fabulous weeks holiday in Cornwall.

The house was comfortable and clean.

The owner had thought of everything a home from home and in a lovely location for exploring Cornwall or just enjoying the beach at Portreath it’s self. Would definitely stay there again.

Lovely cottage and had a great time.

Would have liked a welly boot remover and scraper and the ability to recycle. Also couldn't find a hairdryer and the plug on the Hoover was broken so couldn't clean before leaving. Petty things really as it was such a cosy place.

We were surprised that we were only supplied with one toilet roll for the week.

There is an aerial cable from the roof into the side wall which goes down the side of the gutter pipe. This was quite loose and in the strong wind kept us awake by flapping noisily against the down pipe. A temporary fix was made with sellotape. Two of the kitchen lights were dead so we replaced these, leaving no spares. We left a note to this effect. We were surprised that no mention was made of recycling, someone had left a lot of plastic bottles etc in the seagull-proof waste bag but the bin men did not take this. We brought all our recycling home! We were very comfortable in this spacious holiday home and very pleased at how many facilities Portreath has and all so close to The Chace. Shame that the beach is only dog-friendly after 7pm until 1 October though.

The cottage was a bit tired in places, with the floor in the main bedroom being very noisy and the stair carpet/landing in need of replacement.

The carpet in the lounge was also stained. However, we had a very enjoyable week in the house, and have re-booked to return to Portreath, however not at this property.

Heater in bathroom didn't seem to work.

Not too much of a problem for us as we had warm weather but may be issue for others later in year Comfy and great location

What a lovely surprise!! The house is ideally located for exploring the rest of cornwall. There are also walks galore for rambling enthusiasts. Not much in the village itself, a bakery and food store along with a couple of cafés and pubs, so ideal for a quiet break.
