Birch

Ten weeks after our first visit we were back for a summer trip.

The lodge is brilliant and perfect for what we need. It caters for all and is comfortable and clean. It has everything you could want for a break. Location is lovely, quiet and although feels isolated you aren’t far away from things. Great stay.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay and found the accommodation to be well suited to our group (4) in many ways.

The location was excellent, and the property was spacious enough for six people to stay comfortably. Having everything on one level was particularly beneficial for anyone with reduced mobility, and the three bathrooms were a real bonus, making it much easier for everyone to get ready. All of the appliances worked well throughout our stay, and the keyless entry system with a door code was very convenient as it meant we didn't have to worry about keeping track of keys. There was also plenty of comfortable sofa space for all six of us to relax together in the evenings. There were, however, a few areas that could be improved. The property became extremely hot due to the large amount of glass. We stayed during a heatwave, but even so, some fans would make a big difference during the summer months. There was also no shade on the decking, so we ended up trying to create some ourselves using a golf umbrella. The bedding could also do with some attention. The duvet covers had been put on incorrectly, so they didn't fit the duvets properly, and the pillows were very thin, leaving several of us with sore necks by the end of the week. The waterproof mattress protectors also made the beds uncomfortably hot to sleep on. The kitchen was generally well equipped, but there weren't enough saucepans to cook meals for six people. The crockery was also rather inconsistent, with plenty of plates but only three cups. The coffee machine was a nice addition, but the pods were difficult to find in local supermarkets, only a few had been provided, and the machine hadn't been emptied before our arrival. The fridge also felt quite small for a property accommodating six guests. Finally, some of the windows and doors would benefit from maintenance. The windows operated inconsistently, with some opening fully, others only partially, and some not locking at all, which felt a little concerning given that they were at ground level. The patio doors also appeared to be faulty, with a noticeable gap at the side even when closed, and one of the living room windows had to be forced shut each time it was used.

Excellent stay.

Lodge has everything you need and more. Perfect for those with limited mobility as well which was important for us. The site is quiet and peaceful and close to everything you need. it without feeling you were in the thick of things. Our only niggle was that we’d asked for the beds all to be made up as Superkings as that had been the original set up when booked (we had communication to say it had changed but to contact to have as advertised). I’d called and asked for it not to be 2 singles but when we arrived it was - ultimately not the end of the world though, the beds were comfy for all of us! Already booked to go back in fact! :)

We were very impressed with the lodge, exactly as the pictures and a great location.

The lodge was modern and airy, was spotlessly clean and came with a good selection everything that was required in the kitchen. Will definitely be booking again

This was a lovely spacious place to stay.

Very nicely appointed. Just one suggestion to put a seat in the wet room shower for those that struggle to stand. Would definitely recommend.

The accommodation was perfect.

Very cosy and warm, Michelle was a great host, bringing extra towels and a disabled chair for the shower. Great location, very quiet and peaceful. The Arborist Cafe was in a lovely setting and great for breakfast. Overall a stunning lodge which was above our expectations.

This lodge is well equipped and set up to very high standards, from cleanliness to comfort. Everything is thought of to make your stay effortless.

We really enjoyed our stay at Killiow.

Our host, Michelle, was wonderful, quick to respond to phone calls and really helpful on site. The cafe was another bonus that we used, food was lovely. The site was peaceful and accessible for our needs. We would definitely recommend it and hope to book again soon!

The lodge ('Birch'), was well equipped, clean and comfortable. It was perfect for our needs and the information received was helpful and accurate. The pleasant location suited our planned holiday activities, being centrally placed in Cornwall, near Truro, which couldn't have been better. We would certainly return without hesitation.

Birch was perfect for us, loads of space and spotless when we arrived. Very comfy beds too. Being on one level and having parking so close makes the property very accessible as we had two under 5’s with us. Only suggestion would be to maintain the decking as there was a missing rail and it could do with treating or painting - but this didn’t detract from our overall very positive experience.

It was spacious, clean,well equipped and user friendly. Oh and there was a coffee machine. The site manager,Michelle, was friendly and informative. It was a great experience. The parkland surroundings were superb too. Happy days.

will definitely stay there again. It would have been nice if there were more bin liners in the kitchen to separate for the recycling.

We had a wonderful 12-day stay at The Birch in Killiow over Christmas and New Year.

The cottage is spacious, incredibly cosy, and equipped with everything you could possibly need, including excellent Wi-Fi. Michele was a fantastic host, taking great care of us throughout our visit. The location is perfect, making it an ideal getaway. We can’t wait to return!

Great, quite site, Michelle is a delight, turning up on her day off to ensure everything was okay with us.

Lodge warm, comfortable and fully equipped, can't make any suggestions for improvements because it was perfect. Hoping to visit again in future!

Lovely accommodation, very spacious.

Kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed. Beautiful location too. Negatives would be that we stayed for 2 weeks and would have liked a change of bedding for the second week instead of having the same sheets for 2 weeks. Although there are substantial grounds nothing is marked so easy to get lost. A couple of marked timed trails might have been better. One shorter one longer for those that wanted to walk round the estate. Some areas where the picnic tables were was a bit overgrown so harder for the kids to play football on (if wanting to invest, a kids play area would be a great addition). But overall a really lovely holiday, friendly welcome and lovely place to relax in at the end of the day.

One of our party has mobility problems and the lodge is perfect for us.

The wet room as well as two more bathrooms are ideal. The wide doorways and easy access make moving around easy. Michelle is wonderful, she puts risers on two sofas for us to make sitting easier and nothing us too much trouble. Thank you Michelle for making our holiday home so good for us.

Fabulous lodge, so modern and extremely clean.

Very well thought out. Such a quiet and relaxing site. Excellent spot for exploring all Cornwall has to offer. Michelle greeted us upon arrival and is such a lovely Lady. Overall a fabulous place to stay, I have already recommended this site to family and friends.

What a lovely place !

Warm, comfortable, and plenty of room. All the comforts you require and each bedroom set up for individual needs. Stayed for a week , could have stayed for a month comfortably. Will definitely be back. Truro 15 mins away, lovely garden centre just down the road that serve great snacks and meals. Ideal for Edon project, Flambards, National Trust, Screech Owl Sanctury and many others. Michelle was there for our arrival and made sure we got settled in , she’s an absolute gem.

Lovely to meet the host Michelle and learn about the area and lodges. Lodge very clean, well kitted out with everything you need, the site is quiet and well looked after. Would definitely stay again and would recommend.

Birch Lodge is set in an ideal position and setting.

It has everything supplied inside to be able to settle straight into the holiday mode. Very clean and comfortable and the site is managed by the very attentive Michelle. Not an easy place to find, but once you know your way around its idealy located for Truro town and Truro train station which makes travelling to Falmouth or St Ives a doddle.

The property was perfect for the less abled.

Michelle was incredible, she arranged lifters for the furniture, asked we if needed seating for the wet room and generally went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed. This is an ideal venue for parties of 6 of any age and ability. Cannot wait to go back. Thanks Michelle.

Beautifully situated cottage in peaceful surroundings, had everything we needed.

Clean and very comfortable. Good location for travelling to other places. Wonderful holiday.

For a disabled person, 'Birch' could not be bettered.

The walk-in shower was the best I have come across. The only drawback was the purposely reduced hot water temperature in the wash basin. Apperently, we disabled people are not thought capable of adjusting the water temperature to suit. Those of us who lack the co-ordination usually have the common sense to get our carer to do such things for us, as do those of us who lack the sensory perception to realise when things are hot. This did not detract too much from the over-all delight of finding somewhere that caters for the disabled. Our hostess could not have been more helpful in supplementing the aids that were available.

Fantastic… arrived and was met by the manager.

.who answered any questions we had. Ideally located to visit everywhere we wanted to visit. Truro, and all its amenities are a short drive away. Nice and secluded and so peaceful. Facilities were fantastic, clean and everything worked as it should. Contacted Sykes about iron who said there wasn’t one, when in fact there was. Would we go again….in a heartbeat!!!

It was wonderful to met Michelle there, what a beautiful lodge so peaceful.

We had a pleasure week to stay there, felt like a home. It would be nice if add a swimming pool and playground there to keep kids entertained because any beaches are fairly far from the lodge about 20 mins each. Anyway it is beautiful place to stay and so quiet relaxing to listen to few birds. Will come again in the near future. Thank you:-)

This property was absolutely amazing inside and out - the pictures provided do not do it justice.

One of the cleanest cottages I have booked! Michelle was lovely and met us on arrival, she was very helpful and gave us almost all the information we required for our stay. Only downside of the entire stay, was the fact that we were unable to have access to warm water in the night. This was only brought to our attention when we got in late one day and got into the showers, only to find that the water was ice cold - when ringing Michelle to ask for help, she informed us that the boiler switches off after a certain point - something which we not made aware off on arrival and definitely something that everyone should be aware off!! If were made aware of this fact, we would definitely have still gotten ahead with the booking, but planned ahead to ensure we can shower before bed with warm water! - Apart from this small hiccup, I really couldn't fault our stay. Definitely recommend, but also advise that the boiler situation be made clear on arrival so guests can plan around it!

Had a great family holiday staying at the Birch Lodge.

The Lodge was very clean and had great facilities. Michelle even spent the time to great us on arrival. Highly recommended, would definitely visit again.

There was 6 of us in our party and we were very much impressed with the lodge in appearance,space & equipment provided.

It was extremely comfortable. It was also a great base for us to explore Cornwall on our Motorbikes. Michelle met us on our arrival and she was very helpful and friendly and we knew if we had any queries or needed any information we could contact her. We will definitely be back. The lodges are spacious, well finished and equipped to a high standard.

We were warmly welcomed on our arrival, with Michelle opening a locked gate for one of our party who took a wrong turn and meeting another one who arrived late in the evening when the main road was closed and showing them an alternative route in, which was very much appreciated . The lodges are set in lovely grounds and the area is very quiet. We had a very relaxed holiday.

We couldn't fault the accommodation, it was very clean and comfortable with a most excellently appointed kitchen.

We found the property Manager Michelle to be very friendly and helpful, overall it was a very relaxing and enjoyable week.

Everything was exactly as per the booking and the photos of the cabin were spot on.

Modern, clean and all mod cons - the best asset that this staycation has is Michelle the site manager. Nothing was too much trouble for Michelle - thanks for making our week so great!

What can I say!

!! These lodges are wonderful. We spent 2 weeks in Birch and we were extremely comfortable. The furniture, beds, bedding and linens are all of quality and everything was spotlessly clean. The appliances in the kitchen are excellent and easy to work, and the dressing of the lodge with matching items in the bathrooms, pretty glass vases and faux plants dotted around made it feel homely and bright. Everything was so well organised throughout it was an absolute pleasure to stay here. So peaceful and quiet with lovely country surroundings yet very central to lots of places to visit and the people who manage and look after these lodges are also extremely helpful and are very pleasant! I would recommend a visit to Killiow Lodges all day long!

As a family of 3 generations we found the accommodation excellent, it suited all of our needs.

The central Cornwall position was great for moving around, we covered most of the County with ease. I would certainly use Sykes Cottages again, and heartily recommend them. We had a great holiday and a lot of it was down to superb accommodation.
