“We had a lovely time at Pippin.”

We like Lelant. The cottage is ideally situated on a fairly quiet road and great for travelling to Hayle St Michael's mount, St Ives and further afield. We didn't really use our car, as the bus service was so good, and regular, and we walked to the local Costcutter about a mile and a half away, a couple of times if we needed anything. Tesco a little bit further along. They did close the road coming back from St Ives one night but the bus driver was very accommodating and dropped us as near as he could at the bottom of Lelant hill. Short walk up the hill. We especially loved that you could open the top of the front door, in the living room of the cottage, as it was quite warm when we were there. It was lovely and cool to come back to after a day out. The bed was sooo comfy. The seating was comfy if the living area was a little dark, it was nice and cool. We never used the dishwasher and would question whether a washing machine would be more useful. We had beach towels and for ten days stay we only had one towel each so a facility for washing would have been useful. The kitchen was adequately stocked with everything needed but the knives could have done with a sharpen. The washing line was very slack and could do with replacing so hanging heavyish beach towels or wetsuit was very difficult. We ended up hanging them on the chairs in the garden. We loved the frequent walk to Porth Kidney beach, ( my favourite walk each day ) the coast path and a cream tea in the little church, Thursdays and Fridays, on the way to the beach. We enjoyed listening to the owls each night. The cottage was very comfortable but we noted that cars and other traffic; vans, motorcycles etc drove extremely fast down the hillgoing to the station, we presumed, and close to the cottage, anybody coming out who didn't know, would be at risk of getting hit. My husbands car was scratched and scraped on the wall side when parked, presumably someone trying to get past on foot. Something like some kind of traffic calming needs bringing to the road. A lady also lost her cat so hope this didn't fall prey to the very fast dangerous and nuisance traffic that at times was outside the cottage. Parking could be tricky if your space was taken by someone parking for the train. So we opted to use the bus mostly. This road was quiet at night however. We also enjoyed a drink in the Badger pub across the road a couple of nights, once sat in the garden and once inside the pub. We didn't eat there, but the menu looked very nice and reasonable and the Costcutter up the road also stocked locally made tasty looking ready meals in their freezer, which we saw but didn't try. We appreciated the milk left and didn't feel a larger welcome pack needed to be left. Could do with clearer instructions for the bins and a larger fridge. One or two of the fridge shelves were very brittle and one was cracked on our arrival. That said, we would stay at Pippin again it was very comfortable and cosy, the shower was great, the beds were comfy, slept very well, but I wouod have preferred there to be a washing machine, perhaps two towels each for ten days, but it wasn't a deal breaker and we coped.

The property

With beautiful beaches on the doorstep, pretty village surrounds and St Ives just minutes away, The Pippin offers the best of all worlds.

A cosy retreat, the cottage is in the heart of Lelant, a peaceful village which is bound by the Hayle Estuary to the east and the sweep of St Ives Bay to the north.

The white stretch of Porth Kidney Sands are just 10 minutes' walk away; relatively unknown this beach is simply stunning and lined with incredible sand dunes.

The estuary is literally moments away, where you can hop onto the coast path at low tide and explore the shoreline which is dotted with ancient shipwrecks.

Please do not try to swim in the estuary though as the water is very fast flowing.

The Pippin has characterful accommodation with a lovely inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove making the sitting room a warm and welcoming haven.

Behind this are a small kitchen and a shower room, with the two bedrooms up on the first floor.

Outside the sunny garden has a barbecue and plenty of space to relax and catch up with a good book.

Lelant has limited facilities but the nearby Badger Inn serves food daily and is also home to a basic provisions store.

Golfers will enjoy the 18 hole links course on the edge of the village which welcomes visitors.

With the St Ives branch line just down the hill you can be in the hubbub of the town in no time but be sure to check train times!

The official park and ride is also on the edge of the village if you do miss out.

St Ives needs little introduction; full of life at any time of year there are fabulous restaurants, cafes, boutique shops and galleries lining the picturesque harbour.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.

Penzance 6 miles.

One of Cornwall's prettiest harbour towns, St Ives offers narrow streets, tight-packed cottages nestling around the quayside, the Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth museum, fabulous beaches, superb shops, a thriving community of artists, great pubs and restaurants and much more. With its semi Bohemian lifestyle and romantic air, it's easy to see why this is the county's premier holiday resort. The surrounding area has much for the visitor to see and do with abundant wildlife, fabulous coastal walks, top quality surfing and the Celtic mysteries of the Land's End Peninsula are all within easy reach.
