“The Retreat was lovely and the kitchen very well equipped with plenty of storage space and crockery etc.”

An airfryer would make a welcome addition to the variety of cooking appliances if anything was to be added. The seating was comfortable and various and the outdoor seating a great suntrap although the traffic noise was a surprise. The wash basin was slow to drain and the shower a little under power but Cornwall tends to have water issues and no doubt the private system affected this. Overall an excellent stay, a good base to explore the area and the hosts were friendly and helpful.

Hi Deborah Thank you for the review - it is very much appreciated. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at The Old Vicarage Retreat and your visit to Cornwall. Just to clarify, we are on a private water system and our water supply isn't always the most powerful, however the shower is a standard electric shower and works as you would expect. I'm suprised you had an issue with road noise, as we are in a small village with minimal traffic. We do occasionally get the odd car or motorbike that is louder than normal and the odd tractor, but it has never been an issue. Hope to see you again in the future... Kind regards Andy & Wendy Property Owner

The property

The Old Vicarage Retreat is located in the quaint village of Luxulyan in the heart of Cornwall and provides an ideal base for exploring the vast Cornish peninsula.

Although set in a peaceful village, the A30 is within easy reach and the location provides an ideal base, with many places of interest only a few minutes’ drive away.

This idyllic retreat offers a wonderful escape for couples eager to explore an area steeped in history, with beautiful surroundings, including the Luxulyan Valley (a World Heritage Site) and close to the south coast.

Following an afternoon’s ramble, pop off your walking boots and relax within the open plan living space, complete with plush seating from which you can relax and unwind into the evening.

The contemporary kitchen houses all you could need and the large range cooker is sure to inspire some home cooking.

On warm and pleasant days, why not bring the outside in by taking advantage of the large patio doors and perhaps enjoy a relaxing evening meal on the patio, whilst planning your next adventure.

Discover the plush bedroom as you retire for the evening, settling into the welcoming king-sized bed and maybe watch a show from the large wall-mounted Smart TV.

A new morning and the inviting en-suite with walk-in shower will set you on the right foot for another day of exploring.

Luxulyan is a small village, yet it does offer a small local shop, post office and village pub.

The shop and post office are a minute’s walk away, The Kings Arms 5 minutes’ walk away and renowned for its friendly atmosphere and selection of local ales.

With the Luxulyan Valley, Eden Project, Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum, Charlestown (famous for the filming of Poldark), Fowey and The Lost Gardens of Heligan all close by, and the magnificent South and North coasts of Cornwall to explore - this really is the ideal base for a very special holiday.

Get to know your surroundings even more by venturing along the Saints’ Way that runs from Fowey on the South coast, through the Luxulyan Valley and onto Padstow on the North Coast, or perhaps Bodmin Moor, opening up miles of wild landscapes across rugged terrain, or maybe head to Helman Tor, home to a patchwork of wildlife rich habitats across more than 500 acres - it’s a real hidden gem.
