Elaine “There was a problem of nowhere to put rubbish or a bottle bank but most importantly I wanted to keep it clean, as we found it, but also deal with the ants.”
..thankfully there was ant reent left, which we used... but the brush and shovel were crap... better brush and shovel required, no bins in toilets which is a need to prevent women throwing their period pads down theoo, albeit I'm older and don't need that.. but also a towel rail and more bath mats, the shower protector is crap and water floods the floor. I am ocd in cleanliness and tried my utmost to leave the apartment clean. But I welcomed the welcome pack, which should be advertised as we bought so much stuff that we didn't need to. But also the washing machine has had it... there is a huge hole on the rubber and leaves your closes smelling fusty. So my option is fabulous place, clean, fantastic location but needs new washing machine, bins in toilets, access to hoover and mops but the numbers supplied donr work.... Loved loved. Loved it. Only one other thing is the gardeners put slug pellets all over the grass the day before we left which is poisonous to digs and caused my dog to become sick... plus we walked them in the house too... a very stupid and unnecessary especially when they know there us a dog there!! But all in all FABULOUS and Hooe to return as my partners daughter lives there too... just Loved it!! And thanks for accommodating a late check out as my partner has prostrate and bowel cancel , so a Huge Huge thanks for that. Xx

Helen “I love this property and the location is amazing.”
I have stayed here many times over the years. There are a couple of issues which really do need to be addressed: firstly the front door- once inside there is a serious problem with getting it unlocked to exit. This is a safety issue aswell as being an absolute nuisance when you can’t get out. Secondly, the toilet seat does not fit properly so there is a gap at the front of the toilet. Besides being uncomfortable when seated on the throne, it is unhygienic when the toilet is flushed. Otherwise a lovely stay in a wonderful location.

Debbie “Property needs an upgrade windows need replacing bathroom window and front door needs attention.”
Floor needs replacing in all areas

Adam “The property has been neglected, when people book holidays they are expecting home from home comforts not just clean and fresh bedding.”
For £1,000 for a week the holiday cottage pictures on the website is falsely showing a stunning property this example is by far that! Both the front and back door need replacement asap! To a pvc unit, the door locks are an absolute fire exit issue, you go there and tell me once your locked in how long it takes you to get back out… The property needs a full refurbishment. Then it will be living up to the pictures on Sykes cottages website. We Survived the week, it’s not the best comparing prices to other holiday agents. Over priced. Thanks for the experience. All previous reviews are so true now I’ve had the experience, why hasn’t the reviews been dealt with ? As it says on here you work closely with the owners to resolve problems, you didn’t resolve mine when the microwave was faulty and needed it for my infants meals so it was an inconvenience to make changes to her meals. Will not be returning here, should be due a decent discount on another property when I next book. Thank you

Kay “At first sight everything looked fine but our opinion soon changed and wasn't impressed with all the insects entering the bungalow in the lounge bathroom on top of the units I did inform the caretaker.”
The bungalow needs painting. The mattress protectors was stained. Overall very disappointed so we left on the 20th. I honestly believe we should get some money back. Will not stay there again
- Kay, June 2024 -
Paul “Rather disappointing that when we arrived we couldn’t open the key box.”
It took three different people to try and a phone call to your office before we finally entered. Once in couldn’t believe the quality of the housekeeping, dust covered table holding TV,windows filthy , when we tried to open the patio door, no chance, firmly stuck. Blinds in front of patio door broken, had to man handle them to open them. Fortunately odd job man appear med on Monday and assisted opening the patio doors. This was a health and safety issue as, not only was there this problem with the patio doors, it was also problematic unlocking the main door from inside. The keys had to be ‘wiggled’ so if there had to be a quick evacuation - especially with a disabled person as we had with us, there could have been a severe outcome When you sat at the table for a meal, the legs were loose band we were concerned that it might collapse. Odd job man fixed this after we brought his attention to it. Both wardrobes in the bedrooms covered the plug socket Rendering useless. Fortunately the weather was good so didn’t stop us going out.

Kaye “The bungalow is in a great position right next to the beach & coastal walk.”
However it is in dire need of repairs: we had to clean the windows as we couldn’t see through them, the patio door frame has been stuffed with newspaper to stop the draught & is very hard to lock. One of the settees has a collapsed arm & the other has a sunken seat on one side. The window frames are rotting & need replacing. Three of the mugs are chipped. Plug in bath is broken. Also we spent some time killing ants that were constantly present. On a plus side the beds were comfy and the bed linen & towels were of good quality. It’s such a shame that the property has been neglected- with a refurb it could be a real gem.

Joy “We enjoyed visiting Marazion very much.”
But .... The cottage was comfortable but we had issues with the sliding door which had no key. I made four phone calls to get this fixed. The staff at Sykes were very helpful and eventually got the maintenance man to come. He managed to find a key but also had to take off an extra lock. The door badly needs replacing. The inside of the cottage was very clean but the outside of the windows badly needed cleaning. The picture on the website is very misleading. The view from the cottage is just a wall and grass! To see St Michael's Mount you have to stand up!
- Joy, April 2024 -
Shirley “We enjoy staying at Surfside as it a lovely setting and easy to walk into Marazion and Penzance.”
We have stayed before and hope to return again.
- Shirley, March 2024 -
David “Thank you for the welcome pack it was great.”
Property was clean and tidy and in a perfect location overlooking Marazion beach and St. Michaels mount. Only issue patio door didn't lock properly and was difficult to open and slide on its runners. Hope to visit again next year. Please remember to put parking permit in your car as I ended up with a £60 Fine lol.
- David, February 2024 -
Lynda “We had a lovely stay here our first time we loved it and would stay again plenty to do.”
and our dog loved the beach.just one comment about people keep saying that there is no Wi-Fi take your own we did!
- Lynda, December 2023 -
Rebecca “Super property and in the stormy Cornish weather remained cosy and warm.”
Lots more space than expected! Really appreciated the personal touches such as the Xmas tree and Cornish box for tea/biscuits and washing up. Perfect location for exploring Marazion and surrounding areas and for walking the dog on the beaches. Lovely, friendly Marazion Hotel provided a fabulous meal in the bar with the dog. Would definitely recommend in any season! Maintenance: Patio door needs checking as draughty despite latches and locks.

Lance “Really nice place to stay.”
Lovely walks and stunning views
- Lance, November 2023 -
Ingrid “A lovely clean property with luxury linen and white towels - hotelesque!”
A nice welcome pack with cornish coffee, tea, biscuits, milk, and a laundry welcome pack, too. It was very much appreciated. The property has a nice aspect with views of St Michael's Mount. We were there during storm Ciaran, and it was great to hear the roar of the waves at night as the property is right next to the beach. I would say the patio doors need attention as they do not open and the lock in the front door is stiff but ok once you get the hang of it. It is a simple property with all the basics covered and we look forward to staying again.
- Ingrid, October 2023 -
Julie “Stunning location right on coastal path overlooking St Michael’s Mount.”
Patio door in need of attention, kept coming off runner.
- Julie, August 2023 -
Susan “Great location.”
The property is very tired, the owner needs to spend money and update. Like someone else said tissue in the kitchen window frame. Oldest washing machine & dishwasher that we have ever seen. They looked dirty but it's the age of them. The leg fell off a chair, clearly had fallen off previously. The patio door came off its runner. All the windows and patio doors need replacing. Ants got into clothes and makeup bag. Beds old and uncomfortable. Filthy toilet brush, you can buy new ones for £1! Brown grouting in places in the bathroom. Needs a washing line, there was one down by the staion building, but it was always full. No WiFi, That is awful in this day and age. Not only paying so much money for that place, also adding money to our phone bills. As for sykes, I emailed twice asking a question. They didn't bother to respond the first time, when I chased they just sent through the property speck. Rubbish customer service. Needless to say we will not stay at the place again or ever use sykes again.
- Susan, August 2023Thank you for your comments, your feedback really is appreciated. We are happy to let you know that all beds and mattresses have since been replaced and all maintenance issues are being resolved. Property Owner

Rob “The property was left very dirty for our arrival; floors dirty, cobwebs all over the light fixtures, an abundance of ants over the kitchen worktops and floors, bedroom floors and down the sides of the beds etc.”
The property itself is very tired and needs some maintenance work carried out immediately to retain future stays; the kitchen windows had kitchen roll stuffed around the edges to prevent a draft, all walls need a lick of paint, bathroom shower leaks, tv remote didn’t work as the batteries were pretty much dead, beds very uncomfortable etc. The location is incredible and unfortunately, is the only positive remark I could make about the stay. I have stayed in Sykes Cottages with my family numerous times and considering this property charges a premium for the location, we feel very let down by the standards. We will certainly consider a different provider for our next holiday after staying at Surfside.

Wendy “Good accommodation in a great location to explore from and right by the beach.”
Welcome pack was appreciated. The Patio blind pole wouldn’t work and there were issues with some ants in the kitchen which the owners had sprayed but we had to keep an eye on and were mindful of emptying the bin daily. I imagine being so close to the beach this is difficult to control. The weather was great and we would definately return!
- Wendy, May 2023 -
Paula “Lovely holiday but on/off switch on kettle broken (kettle still works), toilet seat loose, microwave making horrible noise when in use.”
Beautiful views and big skies, we love staying at Surfside. Thank you.
- Paula, May 2023 -
Lance “Lovely place to stay”
- Lance, March 2023 -
Shirley “We enjoyed our stay in Surfside.”
We are hoping to go back next year which will be our third time. Couldn’t find a hairdryer though.
- Shirley, March 2023 -
Margaret “The property was cleaner than we have seen here in the past but unfortunately we were there on a very windy week and there was so much air blowing through the ill fitting patio doors we had to put pillows in front to keep warm and stop the blinds from blowing.”
The adjusting pole for the patio blinds was not attached but broken off and standing in the corner. Consequently we were able to pull the blind across and back but were unable to rotate so had little privacy from people using the footpath in front of the doors. A pair of kitchen scissors would be very useful. It is a shame the property is not being maintained - this is such a lovely spot for a holiday.
- Margaret, November 2022Thank you for your feedback. Your comments have been passed on for actioning. Property Owner

Andrew “A generally well designed and equipped property, but in need of a refresh - the bathroom in particular.”
We got by on mobile data, but there's no excuse for lack of wifi these days. Overall, a comfortable stay and the dog loved being so close to the beach.

Julie “What a difference a year makes, returning to Surfside.”
We only had a few snagging issues, but these had not been addressed and many more issues found. Cleanliness was excellent last year, I think the cleaning team has changed, as this year, very basic clean. The sofas were stained and were very damp on arrival. TV and stand very dusty, dining table cover sticky. Sink, bowl and drainer not cleaned thoroughly. Bathroom had flaking ceiling and damp coming through. Around bath mouldy and tiles has orange stains in grout and floor dusty. Bedrooms were better, need proper pillows not old ones stuffed in two at a time. When striping bed, the mattress stains were awful. Fridge door panel hanging off and larger fridge/freezer needed for longer stays. We had issues last year with ants, but worse this year and needs to be addressed. All areas need to be sealed where they are getting in as health issue. We had to use ant powder, but our dog was sick. Many scuff marks and paintwork very tired. Price because of all issues was too high and paying nearly £1,000 per week is far too high. Urgent maintenance on bungalows needs to be addressed, as others who had returned again felt upset and disappointed with properties. A very good maintenance person should be employed urgently to fix, mend and pay attention to every detail and upgrade all properties. The gardens are maintained very well. The owners have such an amazing site and location and need to return them back to excellent order. Sykes your contact and information before, during and after was great. You may need to go and visit properties to provide a checklist for cleaning team to follow and prepare lists of jobs to be carried out, for owners to deal with.

Property was clean and tidy felt kitchen needed some TLC fridge door and washer door don't close properly and ants seem to be a big problem but in a fantastic place and had a great time
- Beverley, August 2022 -
Linda “Property was very clean and overall comfortable for a base and there is plenty of parking.”
Welcome starter pack is great. Property could be easily and quickly improved with a general update. Beds are really uncomfortable but we remembered this from our previous stays so took our own pillows which helped. Patio door was stiff and hard to open / close but was fixed 1 day before we left. Lack of wifi is not really acceptable and same with lack of recycling bins. Location is great hence this was our 3rd stay, however with St Michael's Mount now charging to go across and no longer allowing dogs, we will likely base elsewhere next time we visit Cornwall.
- Linda, July 2022Thank you for your comments, your feedback really is appreciated. We are happy to let you know that all beds and mattresses have since been replaced and all maintenance issues are being resolved. Property Owner

Carole “Lovely place and beautiful view.”
Patio door from previous review still needs repairing properly, sometimes took two to close it, freezer from previous review still iced up. Toilet seat needs attention. Really could do with wi -fi. Bed in main room very hard, ok if you like a hard bed.
- Carole, July 2022Thank you for your comments, your feedback really is appreciated. We are happy to let you know that all beds and mattresses have since been replaced and all maintenance issues are being resolved. Property Owner

Keith “We’ve stayed at several of the bungalows here and they all could do with a bit of TLC.”
Patio door nearly falls off the rails on opening and an elderly person would struggle to open/ close. No freezer, freezer compartment in fridge iced up and wouldn’t close. Bath plug adrift from chain and had fishing line attached.
- Keith, July 2022 -
Karen “Had amazing stay and would definitely go back again.”
Had problem with patio door due to having trouble opening it but made a call to owners and next morning a nice man made it more better. Only minor is need new scissors as the ones were tiny and broken. But fab location and peaceful.
- Karen, June 2022 -
Paula “Always enjoy our stay and hate coming home.”
The only issue is the ants having said that, they did provide some entertainment.
- Paula, May 2022 -
Julie “Beautiful location overlooking St Michael’s Mount.”
Coastal path and beach in front of bungalows. Only criticism, would be nice to have easy access to coastal path over wall outside. We will definitely be back.
- Julie, May 2022 -
Sarah “Lovely Bungalow, right on the beach.”
Fabulous view over to St Michael's Mount. Property needs a bit of tlc. Lovely and clean. Will be booking again. Thank you
- Sarah, April 2022 -
William Jacqueline “Have been going to Surfside for at least nine years, have found the cleaning up until this year dreadful, this year was much better fortunately.”
The bungalow does need an update as decor dated and tired. Would appreciate WiFi as just a basic requirement these days. On the whole we enjoyed our stay and looking forward to staying again.
- William Jacqueline, April 2022 -
Julie “Tha position of this property is beautiful.”
Unfortunately the property itself is in need of quite a few things doing to it.
- Julie, March 2022 -
Margaret “Well stocked and comfortable.”
Would have liked the freezer to have been defrosted, so much ice inside little room for food. Also proper kitchen scissors and a SHARP knife would be appreciated. DVD instructions but no player and no wifi at all. Must be our 10th or 11th visit but still in a beautiful spot and properties much improved over the years. No doubt we will be back.
- Margaret, March 2022 -
Helen “Hello, we have stayed here many times.”
There now needs to be a facility for recycling cardboard, bottles etc so I don’t have to keep taking recyclables back home 220 miles at the end of the holiday. In 2022 it is unacceptable to be binning recyclables. The windows need replacing with double glazing, especially in light of the fuel price rises. Would be great to see Wi-Fi if possible. Lovely location and great holiday otherwise. Thank you.
- Helen, March 2022 -
Jonathon “Very good place just needs Wifi”
- Jonathon, October 2021 -
Caroline “Lovely, simple and clean cottage with a gorgeous view!”
- Caroline, August 2021 -
Catherine “Fantastic holiday !”
Lovely clean cottage literally on the beach, what more could you want?? Comfy beds, fluffy towels, plentiful equipment of good quality , it's a really lovely place to stay. Only downside is no WiFi, but that is the only downside everything else is just perfect for a great beach holiday.
- Catherine, July 2021 -
Deborah “The view and shower were amazing!”
!.The coastal footpath was closed for maintenance which was both disappointing and tiring having to walk roadway to the dog friendly beach.DVD player had a really loud hum so glad we took our own.Cheap and nasty cutlery which actually dug into the palm of your hand. The bungalow was lovely and clean,it just needs a little bit of tlc(grouting in bathroom, kitchen equipment). The toilet seat did not fit so felt very unsteady and extremely uncomfortable. On the positive we had a lovely holiday and would definitely return.
- Deborah, July 2021 -
Elaine “Excellent holiday”
- Elaine, June 2021 -
Michael “The bungalows are detached - a good feature not made obvious in the publicity photos.”
Less good is the cheap and nasty cutlery provided, and the very poor Bush TV. Also, the very limited space between the foot of the double bed and the wall. The grounds around the dwellings are well kept and there is plenty of car parking space. Views of the Mount are superb!
- Michael, May 2021 -
Paula “Love staying at Surfside, we try to come down at least once a year.”
Comfortable and cosy accommodation with a view from the garden to die for. We have already booked for next year!
- Paula, May 2021 -
David “Fantastic location, comfortable and cosy accommodation with everything you need.”
- David, April 2021 -
Helen “We love this cottage and have stayed here several times.”
The view is lovely. My only point is that in this day and age I cannot believe that there are no recycling bins. I took a bag of our recyclables 200 miles home as I was not comfortable binning it to landfill at a time when we need to be doing everything we can to turn the tide. It would be great if this can be remedied!
- Helen, September 2020 -
Paula “Property clean on arrival, biscuits, tea coffee welcome pack nice touch after a long journey.”
Patio door lock, needs repairing as we had issuing locking it. A maintenance lady managed to lock for us, thank you. Would like to have seen recycling bins on site. A pleasant relaxing stay, would stay again, thank you.
- Paula, September 2020 -
Michael “This was are second stay at surfside & we think its a great place to stay & we will book it again the only downside is no wifi .”
- Michael, July 2020 -
Susan “Excellent property lovely welcome when we walked through the door with ...”
Excellent property lovely welcome when we walked through the door with Christmas tree , mince pies and cream waiting on the table We had a great time Thankyou
- Susan, December 2019 -
Karon “Loved this place!”
Already trying to arrange another stay. The bungalow had everything we needed and was very clean, comfy and cosy (even through some heavy rain and high winds). Water pressure in the shower was pretty amazing! The location was lovely too- almost right on the beach with views to St Michaels Mt. (an easy walk away) or a longer walk to Penzance. Yes it is close to a train line but that wasnt an issue you could hardly hear the train over the sound of the sea.
- Karon, October 2019 -
Joanne “Wonderful location.”
I have emailed customer support with a few issues but have yet to hear back from anyone regarding this.
- Joanne, September 2019 -
William Jacqueline “Have been visiting Surfside for many years because we are able to share our holiday with our family who stay in a number of the other bungalows.”
..This is a unique place and we have watched the standard go down over the years as the bungalows age. This year Jane the owner has installed new things which has made things nicer but the bathrooms are very tired and need a bit of updating...wrong seat on toilet, grouting black, shower takes ages to adjust the heat of the water flow. The furnishings have been improved but our friends the ants visit us every year, a spray is provided which works for a short while. May I say that the gardener works very hard and makes the grounds look lovely, he also helps if you have any problems.
- William Jacqueline, April 2019 -
Helen “Fabulous location and a lovely property, this was our fifth visit to the location.”
The one area which could be improved was the windows. During our week, Storm Erik hit and the amount of breeze coming through the bedroom windows was considerable. Providing unintended air conditioning! Otherwise a perfect location and we love it x
- Helen, February 2019 -
Lisa “The bungalow is lovely , fabulous location , right by beach , close to Many places to visit, easy parking.”
Disappointed in furniture coffee tables shabby and need replacing , toilet seat broke and wood split , this is a shame , this ikea tables are very cheap and should be replaced regularly. Toilet seat is inexcusable too , considering this is a cluster of properties with same maintenance and owners, the amount of revenue earned over the season should be put back into keeping the properties to a standard .
- Lisa, December 2018 -
Andrew “I would like to thank Jane for a wonderful week at her property in November 2018 I purely use this property for my pet labrador this is my second time I have had this place for my dog she is so familiar with this she thinks she is at home every think in the area is so convenient for me I normally travel the world but now it's time for me to spend time with my dog as she is getting older now.”
I like the comment on Mrs Diggett who left feedback what a load of rubbish all the lights work at this property and if one would look hard enough there were spare lightbulbs under the kitchen sink once again I'd like to thank Jane for a wonderful time and I will see you again in the New Year sometime kind regards Andy and megan who is the labradors name Mr Monks
- Andrew, November 2018 -
Linsey “Some lightbulbs missing or lights not working - no side lights at all in one bedroom.”
No tin opener. Generally, the facilities were good though. Excellent location and extremely clean. Just a little more attention to detail would have received a higher score.
- Linsey, September 2018 -
Bob “It was absolutely disappointing please see emails sent yesterday”
- Bob, September 2018 -
Philip “The location was second to none, easy access to the coast path, beautiful views all the way round the bay,We had a problem with our bed, mentioned it to one of the staff, there was another base and a brand new mattress fitted the same day.”
Jane kept us updated throughout the day. Thank you Sykes for a lovely holiday. Regards phil
- Philip, September 2018 -
Karen “Superb location everything on one level with amazing views, what more can you say.”
One of the best holidays we've had in Cornwall. Booking again !
- Karen, May 2018 -
Paula “Lovely property in ideal location but bed truly uncomfortable probably needs new mattress?”
- Paula, May 2018 -
John “Great holiday and venue any queries dealt with promptly and efficiently.”
First holiday we have brought our dog, Cornwall has been so welcoming and dog friendly guaranteeing our return.
- John, October 2017 -
Jackie “We have been coming to these cottages for the past few years and love it here.”
we still miss the old on site caretakers which added that personal touch to the holiday but I suppose life moves on. The only criticism I have is the fact that there are no recycling facilities available.
- Jackie, October 2017 -
Mark “1. The bed in the double room creaked badly and needs attention.”
2. There is no wi-fi at the property.
- Mark, September 2017

The property
Sheltered from Atlantic breezes by the sea wall, this small private development of purpose built holiday bungalows lies just steps away from golden sands and white tipped waves.
Set around the site of Marazion's former railway sidings and the little granite stone station which has now been sympathetically converted. Ever popular with water sports enthusiasts, windsurfers, kite surfers and dinghies can be found skimming over the waves throughout the year.
When the tide is out, the historic island castle of 'St Michael's Mount' can be accessed by an ancient cobbled causeway well trodden by Pilgrims over the centuries.
A vast tract of inland marshland frequented by rare species of migrating birds attracts bird watchers from all over the country.
Time can be spent browsing in galleries and antique shops, or taking refreshments in the tea rooms, cafes and pubs which can be found lining the narrow streets of this charismatic coastal village. Returning to your bungalow after a day of sun and sea you are able to relax in the uncluttered harmony of open design living.
When reclining on comfy leather sofas, sitting around the table playing board games or preparing a meal in the sleek modern kitchen, the family can fully appreciate each others company.
Nicely furnished bedrooms, clean white bathrooms and full central heating add to the appeal whatever the season. All bungalows have their own patio and the attractively landscaped grounds incorporate designated parking bays in front of each property with 2 spaces.
When you are ready to explore the surrounding area you will find that Penzance, Land's End and St Ives are all just a convenient drive away.
