From the outside and in photos the property looks attractive and full of character, and aesthetically it has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, in practice it is not functional or well maintained, which significantly affected our stay. There are multiple security and practicality issues that make the property difficult to use and that, in our experience, felt unsafe. One of the doors cannot be properly shut or locked due to a broken mechanism, meaning the house cannot be left securely unattended. At the same time, other external doors are locked shut and unusable, which is inconvenient and a potential concern. The only lockable front door is extremely difficult to open from the outside without forcing it. Facilities advertised as features were also not usable — most notably the hot tub, which was broken despite prior confirmation that it was working. The hot water supply was limited and insufficient for the number of guests the property is listed to accommodate. The kitchen was poorly equipped with very few basic amenities and no suitable cookware for the Aga, making self-catering impractical. Cleanliness was below standard, with cobwebs, dust, and bathroom bins not emptied on arrival. Several small but telling issues — missing light bulbs, a broken iron, and the lack of a welcome or safety information pack — added to the impression that the property is not regularly checked or prepared properly for guests. Privacy is another concern, as bathrooms facing the street still have no blackout blinds, something previous reviews have also mentioned. In summary, while the location is excellent and the property looks charming, it is currently not practical, not well maintained, and does not deliver on advertised features. With proper maintenance and attention to basic standards it could be lovely, but in its present condition it falls short of expectations for a holiday rental.

About the location

ST JUST

Penzance 7.2 miles; St Ives 12.9 miles.

St Just is the nearest town to Land’s End and is situated approximately eight miles west of Penzance. The town itself is an ancient settlement that has a strong mining history and there are several monuments and prehistoric antiquities to visit including the Bronze Age settlement at Cape Cornwall. St Just is ideally located for visitors to explore the far west of Cornwall as it is situated on the edge of the moors and close to the beautiful north coast. In the centre of the town is Plain-an-Gwarry, a theatre used for miracle plays in medieval times, and in more recent times for the Lafrowda Festival.
