Waterside Cottage was delightful and ideal for the two of us but perhaps on the small side for four. It was well-equipped and we particularly enjoyed the doors opening out onto the terrace from both floors. Our only criticism was the lack of any operating instructions for the appliances. Not a major problem but the TV and electric cooker needed quite a bit of trial and error. Set in a wooded valley at the head of a tidal creek running up from the Camel Estuary, this tiny hamlet of Cornish stone houses exudes peace and tranquillity. The beautiful countryside around Little Petherick is criss-crossed with a network of local footpaths, amazing gardens and stately homes to explore, and the Saint’s Way Trail passes through the hamlet offering an off-road walk into Padstow. Padstow is a charming working fishing port with colourful harbour surrounded by glorious sandy beaches is at the head of the Camel River. Watching the everyday ebb and flow of harbour life is a perfect way to spend a day. This foodie destination with popular eateries from Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth is the start and end point for the Camel Cycle Trail and a good base for watersports. Nearby, Wadebridge is a bustling market town perfectly placed alongside the ebb and flow of the River Camel. The town hosts an array of excellent shops, pubs and restaurants and is home to North Cornwall's only family-owned cinema. The excellent surfing beaches of Harlyn and Constantine are ideal for safe family fun, and Constatine Bay is also home to a golf course, just a few miles away, while a passenger ferry across the river from Padstow to Rock takes you to the beach at Daymer Bay. Just around the corner toward Pentire Head is the surfing paradise at Polzeath, and when the beach no longer calls, there’s a golf course nearby, several stately homes and gardens to visit and the Camel Trail to walk or cycle. Also the fabulous Eden Project is just fifteen miles away.
