    “The location and the sea view are the reason to book here, and on a clear day it's genuinely special.”

    But the experience didn't match the premium we paid, and that's the honest summary. The glass was the main problem. Every external window was dirty, but the balcony glass was the worst of it. It looked like it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in a very long time. I messaged the host to ask whether the windows and balcony glass could be cleaned externally so we could actually make the most of the view. It was only in their reply that I found out the window cleaner had been there just a few hours ...

It looked like it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in a very long time. I messaged the host to ask whether the windows and balcony glass could be cleaned externally so we could actually make the most of the view. It was only in their reply that I found out the window cleaner had been there just a few hours before we arrived. The reply explained that Cornwall's salt air and wind make windows dirty quickly, mentioned the cleaner had sent a walk-through video, and said they'd try to get him back that week. But if it was cleaned just a few hours before I arrived, the glass I found didn't match that. That kind of build up takes months, not hours. What bothered me as much as the glass was how the query was handled. My concern was minimalised and trivialised rather than taken seriously. I asked for the windows to be cleaned, and the salt air explanation was offered as if that closed the matter. The walk-through video answered a question I hadn't asked either. I didn't ask whether the cleaner had turned up, I asked for the glass to be cleaned. It felt like the issue was being explained away rather than addressed. More importantly, nothing happened after that message. No return visit, no follow up, no further communication at all. I raised a clear, reasonable issue and it was left with us for the rest of our stay. The problem was never resolved, and that lack of response is the part that stuck with us most. The windows themselves are in poor condition beyond just being dirty. The seals are so bad that when you close the blinds they rattle and move in the wind. On windy days, which are common on this stretch of the Atlantic coast, the whistling and howling through the bad seals was constant, in both the bedroom and the living area. There was also guttering off somewhere, so when it rained it poured like a tap against the bedroom window, loud enough to wake you up. Smaller things added up too. Several teaspoons had been put away dirty and sticky from coffee, so I had to wash them before use. There was the odd rogue hair in a drawer and on plates, some signs of water damage, and an extractor fan that could really use new bearings. The bath has no taps, just a shower head, which is worth knowing before booking. The lift is old and only runs at half its stated weight capacity. The building owners seem to have decided this is acceptable by putting up a little poem about it. If I were paying the maintenance fees I wouldn't put up with it, but since the block is almost entirely holiday lets, it seems they get away with it. I understand this is a home people live in, so I don't expect flawless. But for a premium sea view property, I do expect to be able to see the sea, to sleep without the wind howling through the windows, and to feel heard when something isn't right. Again, a beautiful place, but it just needs work to bring it up to standard, along with better service when an issue is raised.
