Freezing cold on arrival with little signs all over the place that things don’t work properly. Unable to use the advertised bath, after I had to clean it myself, as the hot water system is not functioning correctly, the owner admitted this is a long time issue not mentioned in the listing.. Property is very slanted too so we felt seasick walking around. Bed rock hard. Owner requested heating and hot water used sparingly to reduce their costs, I don’t go on holiday to worry about other people’s bills. Log basket was padded out and only half full with a snotty tissue, pasty bag and yoghurt wrapper in it. Got no sleep due to being able to hear the constant movement all night from the flat upstairs too. Followed all instructions from the owner and property manager to try to get the hot water going and was told to run a bath with the kettle. Old food in the freezer that wasn’t ours. Sykes customer service refused to help

Thank you for your comments, Sykes Cottages did try to contact you after I reached out to them on your behalf but they couldn't contact you by phone so they also sent you an email. Waves End is a 200 year old character building set 15 metres above sea level and  we are sorry if there was a chill in the sea air on the day of your arrival. It is double glazed, has underfloor heating in the kitchen and bathroom, a heater in the lounge and the living/dining area also has a logburner.  We do also provide heater instructions in the welcome pack. A further supply of logs was also offered to be brought round but this was also declined.  The bathroom and kitchen can of course have a slight incline as can be found in character properties of this nature and we can of course add a mention of this to the advert. The property is cleaned throughly to a high standard on every changeover as can be seen by the many top cleanliness scores and reviews we receive- The bath may have had some residue cleaning product from over diiligence but our housekeeper did offer to return to remove it but this was declined as you told me you had removed it yourself.   The mattress on the bed is medium, as we find this caters to most guest needs but appreciate it can be subjective and personal preference, although most guests do seem to enjoy it as can be seen in a May 2025 and  also a June 2025 review.  We have been having the bathroom amenities upgraded and so while the water pressure was slightly slower than usual at the time it was still working and could also be topped up with hot water from the standard electric shower over the bath. We also left a note for guests to explain this as we felt this was a courteous thing to do.  The housekeeper did also offer to visit as soon as possible and explain how to use the shower thermostat dial which has industry standard blue and red markings to make clear which to use for which Property Owner
