Longview Cottage

Cottage was fine, other than an annoying dripping kitchen tap.

Sykes cottages took additional payment from our account which took many phone calls to resolve. This was difficult, extremely frustrating and stressful. Very happy to rebook the cottage, but would avoid Sykes cottages

A lovely cosy comfy cottage in quiet location.

Everything you needed for a great holiday.5 mins from St Austell, 10 mins from south coast beaches and 30 from the north. Perfect setting with lovely garden area. Carol and Phil were the perfect hosts nothing was to much trouble. Enjoyed it so much we are coming back next year.

Lovely cottage, everything you need for a stay in Cornwall, located in a quiet lane in the village, ideally situated for touring around the sights and scenery.

The cottage is cosy and comfortable, also kept us cool with its thick stone walls which we were very thankful for. Both the owners were friendly and helpful, there's a lovely dog friendly garden at the front where you can also sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. A beautiful, spotless, comfortable cottage.

Overall a little disappointed with the cottage.

However it was in a good location ideal for exploring Cornwall. Whilst the description was perfectly correct , it did not really reflect how small it was. The description said it was quirky which it was and which we found charming. The description mentioned that it suffered from damp due to it's age and construction and asked guests to leave windows and extractor fans on after showers. This we were happy to do, but we were lucky in having hot weather. There is clearly a serious damp issue with damp stains and black mold evident. Also, apart from the kitchen, which appears recently refitted, it appeared generally tired and neglected. Decoration was poorly done, particularly in the bathroom, presumably done in a hurry to cover the damp issues. There was no dvd player as per the description, just normal channels. Netflix, prime and catch-up channels were not available as no internet connection was possible. Otherwise reasonably well equipped although could have done with a small table to put your coffee mugs on by the sofa, and trays to use if you wanted to eat a meal while watching TV. Apologies for being negative as overall we had a lovely holiday.

The property was a perfect base to explore Cornwall .

It was clean and comfy and had a nice outdoor space to relax in .

The cottage was lovely, and very well equipped.

We always travel with a box full of things we are likely to need, for the kitchen, but we barely needed to touch it. The electric heating panels worked very well, and kept us cozy. The only problem we had, and I must stress that this is not a fault of the cottage, but a limitation for me. The stairs are very, steep, narrow, and low headroom, and I am tall and wide, with dodgy hips, so I found the stairs difficult. I knew the property had stairs, just not how much I would need to struggle with them.

Would have been nice to have a T.Towel and few more bowls as only two small bowls. Perhaps few cleaning products in kitchen. Overall though comfortable and clean on arrival. Google maps failed to send you to correct location in Penwithic so follow owners directions when you arrive in Penwithic.

Perfect old cottage for a couple get away, may look small from pictures but is just the right size, had everything we needed, its quirky and cute which is what we expected of a property built as long ago as this one, perfectly located for venturing anywhere in cornwall, owners are lovely and the property was very clean and with good instructions of how to operate and care for the property during your stay,

It was a perfect little cottage.

Exactly as it says on the listing. It had everything we needed and was perfect for the dog too. The only issue we had was the door. We struggled to lock and unlock the door, sometimes taking us 5/10 minutes to lock from the outside.

We had a very comfortable stay at Longview.

The cottage was very clean and comfortable and lovely and warm to come back at the end of a day's sightseeing. We did have a couple of problems with the tv and hob but it was soon sorted out by Carol. It provides a good base for visiting Cornwall. We are thinking of returning again.

The cottage was what we expected, cosy, clean and comfortable.

You could tell that a lot of thought had been put into making sure that every need was taken care of with regards information on local amenities, places to visit to self catering needs. We would definately recommend this cottage as a place to stay.

If you’re after a quiet location relatively near St Austell and various beaches nearby, Longview is perfect.

The facilities are as advertised, good quality decor, comfortable bed, the shower is fine, lounge kitchen area spacious. I was there mainly for a writing week, so the table and chairs were an important feature. The owners, just next door, were very helpful & fixed the tv connection when the signal was lost. An excellent week. Thoroughly recommended.

Had a great week at this cottage in January.

Very peaceful and relaxing located at the end of a lane, the cottage was always lovely and warm. Plenty of dog walks straight from the door or a dog friendly beach was only a 10 minute drive away. Great having the village shop and chip shop only a 5 minute walk away.

Fabulous cosy cottage had everything we needed for a week exploring the coast between Looe and Mevagissey.

The house was a bit scruffy outside and the garden and area too! I think we thought the cottage was fine Heating- facilities fine! But disappointed on arrival of area and house !

The cottage has everything you need for two people. It is in a great location for visiting this part of Cornwall and we had plenty to do while we were here. The fantastic weather we had all week was an added bonus. Would definitely recommend this cottage.

The holiday let is only the right hand portion of the whole property in the picture (door and 2 windows).

Finding the lane entrance was difficult especially with no mobile signal strength along Penhale Road. Leaving the lane was always "hope nothing coming" as impossible to see with walls either side. However, the property was clean, bright and comfortable with everything we needed. The owners were lovely people. It was all we needed for a 'base' for our short break in Cornwall.

A lovely quaint little cottage for two, limboing up and down the stairs was quite a novelty but only to be expected at 6' 3" a fully useable kitchen, very peaceful and quiet and a constant fascination watching the birds feeding at the window feeder.

The only criticism would be finding the occasional time when the shared washing machine and tumble dryer were not both full with washing but not on and stayed like it for hours!

A lovely little cottage and pretty garden and provided a useful unexpected stay for me.

Just for the property owner- I found all the different air fresheners way too pungent and cloying. The key safe is loose and I imagine can be opened without the code. I moved some of the air fresheners to the laundry room and hope you didn’t mind. If they are needed one scent would be better than the many in use. It’s such a small dwelling I think it would be better without them. The bedroom heating wasn’t working nor the outside light, as my stay was short I didn’t bother contacting you about it. I would have appreciated a tea towel.

Lovely clean, warm and quiet property perfect for 2 + small dog.

Conveniently located with good access to local attractions and coast.

We enjoyed our stay at Longview cottage but there were a few jiggly things that we found unusual.

There were no cleaning tools. The only way to sweep the floor was to ask for broom to which we were given a rechargeable dyson vacuum. A broom and mop would have been useful especially as we had our dog with us who sheds hair. When we arrived we were surprised to find the washing machine and tumble dryer were in an out door utility and whenever we needed to use it we had to ask as the owners washing was in them. Finally over the 2weeks we were there a large amount of mould developed on the walls, we kept the windows on the latch to allow the cottage to breathe as requested but it made no difference. There was condensation running down the walls in the bedroom. We live in a similar age cottage and have had this problem in the past and have been able to deal with it. My husband suffers with asthma and the spores from the mould can aggravate it. We did enjoy our holiday and these things weren’t too big a problem.

This is a beautiful, quaint cottage, everything is of a very high standard.

Longview Cottage was very comfortable and cosy.

The use of the front garden to sit in was very pleasant, both the cottage and the garden are a great place to relax. Phil and Carole were very welcoming and helpful when we had a car problem.

The property had excellent facilities, it is hidden away behind other houses, but felt like you were remote. We had a very pleasant stay and would highly recommend this cottage. Hope to return again sometime.

Just back from a week long stay at Longview Cottage.

Great central location for exploring Cornwall! The cottage is lovely and cosy for 2 + a dog! Very very tall people may struggle or people with mobility issues, but we loved it :) Things to note: The cottage is attached to the owners house but we never heard a peep out of them, just heard their dogs when they got a delivery. The instructions for using the garden could have been clearer - we had to look back on the photos to see what we were allowed to use! (It’s the front garden with the table & 2 chairs on the gravel). We had to buy some additional basic items whilst we were there, just in case this is useful! Tea bags, coffee, sugar, milk, toilet roll, kitchen cleaning spray. The shower scolded me on day 1 - do not flush the toilet before going in to the shower as it plays havoc with the hot water and it didn’t seem to cool down for AGES, then completely stopped and when it started again came out boiling hot (safe to say I didn’t do that again). And the shower pressure is pretty terrible but I guess that may be an issue with older properties? As the property is small, the fridge/freezer is also understandably pretty tiny. If you’re staying for a week like we did you won’t be able to put many days worth of food in there! It gets very hot in the bedroom when it’s sunny - bring a fan!

Was a lovely, peaceful, clean well equipped cottage, the garden was beautiful, instructions on how to use equipment was good.

Bird feeder on the window was a brilliant touch with loads of little visitors. Owners were not intrusive but was assured if anything was needed then you were welcome to knock. Loads of information on places to visit. Central to Cornish amenities. Close to main A Roads. If we could make one suggestion if possible please?? mirror at the end of the drive positioned to enable you to see clearly up the road, a car (that was speeding) nearly took off front of our car as we were edging out. Fantastic break and plan to return next year x

Had a lovely holiday.

.The cottage is ideal as a base for going out&about to lots of areas. Not everyone especially those as us with a long journey of up to 7 hours with stop offs, brings their own foods we did bring some&pets things but a Welcome pack would be lovely things like bread, milk, tea, coffee, eggs , all local we were left ciders they were lovely. Needs to really state what the village has and opening times as the only shop only open to 530 or not late same as the chip shop.I would also let people with small children and pets know that their is a stone wall re garden & there is a drop if climbed on or to car park if got under the hedge. Would be ideal if small fencing was put around this area as our pup got on the wall and jumped.. Lovely lady who owns the cottage & good that you can nip to a shed and use a washing machine and dryer.. If you are wanting a very quiet break with just the lovely birds&local cats, or for going out and about this is ideal..

We were not impressed with the stay at Longview Cottage, the area had abandoned cars littered around the village or vehicles that were being repaired and as the car parking area for the cottage could not be seen from the property we did not feel secure in leaving our vehicle there .

In the promotion photos it stated that there was a patio area to use attached to the cottage, how can you use this area when you have to jump over a brick wall to access it ?. The facilities were ok but no washing machine , the property was clean and tidy but a lot smaller than expected and as such the problems we have mentioned did not encourage our stay at the cottage, and as we was on holiday to celebrate my 70th birthday we did not feel comfortable in staying, so after 30 minutes or so we returned home.The promotion shots portrayed a cosy romantic cottage for a nice break away but in reality it was nothing of the sort !!!!

Very nice property that river do the cleaning should learn how to dance properly television television unit was full of dust and on the worktop they were dead insects but otherwise happy with the property and would recommend to friends

I had a grand week at Longview Cottage despite the dreadful weather (and final night’s power cut on last night courtesy of Storm Eunice) It was so clean, well-equipped, cosy and homely that I managed to fully relax and unwind which was what I’d hoped for a week into retirement

We have stayed several times at Longview and the cottage is always immaculately clean and warm

Cottage has some damp but to be fair it is 200 years old so to be expected.

I stayed here for a month and very quickly it felt like home. And it's so quiet. The shower is a bit small. Phil and Carol are lovely and right on hand if you need anything. Would highly recommend staying here for a cornish holiday.

Welcome pack of cider, fresh flowers. Very well supplied with crockery, pans etc. towells. Bed super comfy. Handy for many locations.

The Cottage was very comfortable and had all the facilities needed for our stay,we would happily reuse or recommend this cottage.

As a property that allows dogs, cleanliness is always an issue with the soft furnishings.

In this property rugs had dutifully been cleaned however I think the sofa may be beyond help. Lovely scented candles were provided but the sofa was giving off an aroma all of it's own. I did also have to clean under it. They hadn't moved the sofa and done this. Low light fittings and a section at the top of the stairs is very low. A warning of this would be good. The reading lamp was an excellent extra. Never had that before. All in all a lovely place with good heating and facilities.

We had a fantastic holiday and this quirky little cottage did not disappoint us.

It was extremely clean and had all the facilities needed on a week long break, the hosts were on site if we had a problem (we didn't) and they left a lovely couple of bottles of cider on arrival which was appreciated after a long drive; they also keep a couple of chickens so we had some tasty fresh eggs for breakfast. The cottage is central to lots of other resorts/ towns so we were able to do a lot of planned site seeing and if we are ever in the area again we would certainly rebook this fabulous cottage.

Floor round the fridge rather dirty.

Found sofa and bed uncomfortable. Internet was not working for the first couple of days, but the owners sorted it out by the Monday. Kitchen well equipped. Nice quiet place.

I think it should state that the stairs are very steep and unsuitable for people with limited mobility.

Saucepans very limited. Only 1 with a lid. Washing machine and/or tumble drier were always in use by the owner.

Long view is a perfect cottage for 2 people (and dog!

). It has a lovely garden with seats and easily accessible common land nearby for dog walking. The location has easy access to Par beach or Charles town or the A30 for travelling further afield. All the usual facilities in the cottage including TV and WiFi work perfectly. The weather was perfect and we had a very enjoyable holiday.

We found the cottage to be very much smaller than it appeared in the photographs.

The lighting in the downstairs room is very poor making it difficult to cook and read. Prior to going on holiday, like other people we know, I found it impossible to contact Sykes by phone, fortunately unlike others I was not trying to get a refund.

Cottage was okay but the cleanliness left a lot to be desired especially in current pandemic situation.

Also due to Covid eating out was difficult and found cooking utensils were quite sparse, 1 small saucepan, 1 small frying pan and a steamer. Did enjoy the bottle of wine in the welcome pack but found the almost out of date Reduced pint of milk quite off putting.

Missed the turning to the cottage, a sign at the bottom of the drive would help future visitors I believe

Cottage was the perfect size for two people and conveniently situated near to the main St Austell road but in a very quiet area.

It was immaculately clean and warm for our winter break. Wifi signal was fast and TV worked great. There were fresh flowers and a bottle of wine on arrival. We really enjoyed our stay and couldn't fault the cottage.

The little touches left by the owner, milk, flowers and wine, were much appreciated.

Lovely owners too! Central to many attractions and a short trip to the many beautiful little harbours that make Cornwall special. Everyone was so friendly!

Beautiful cosy cottage with lovely sheltered patch of the owners garden to chill out if not wanting to travel.

Near lots of places to visit. Very impressed with both the holiday and Sykes.

Very quiet spot, seemed remote but things were very close (Tesco/Lidl/ and fuel about 1mile) great base for visiting general areas of Cornwall.

My 6ft3 boyfriend struggled a little with the low ceiling coming down the stairs but this was our only issue. It was a lovely stay and we highly reccomend it. Take a torch at night as the driveway can be a little dark.

every time we have used sykes cottages the accomodation has been excellent.

the recent one in cornwall was no exception, the owners were friendly and helpful but not in your face. the cottage was charming and cosy and very clean and well equiped.

Excellent hosts, cosy, comfortable cottage which included everything we needed.

We appreciated the welcome pack and the use of the garden to sit out in with only the sound of birds to keep us company. The position of the cottage was such that the places we wanted to visit were easily accessed by car or public transport. We have holidayed in Cornwall before but we hadn’t been to Fowey, Truro or Charlestown and they were all thoroughly enjoyed by us. We were recommended to book Sykes accommodation by a number of our friends and we weren’t disappointed in fact we may be booking a cottage in Northern Ireland with another couple next spring. Thank you for helping us enjoy a lovely holiday in a wonderful county.

Longview Cottage is a small cottage which we found clean and very well placed to visit all the different parts of Cornwall.

The owners were friendly and helpful which helped make the holiday more enjoyable.

The cottage was great, just right for the two of us and our dog.

It was well equipped, very clean and in a nice location with lots of places to explore nearby. We would definitely recommend it.

On discovering we were on honeymoon, the owners had thoughtfully placed chocolates, roses and a bottle of bubbly in the lounge to greet us and scattered rose petals on the bed.

We were so touched by this extremely lovely and thoughtful gesture.

Quite a steep very narrow staircase , might be difficult for anyone with knee or hip problems.
