“We rung in the new year here, it was a cosy and clean place to relax after a days walking on the coast path with our pooch, either in the hot tub or binging a tv series on the sofa.”

The property and kitchen had everything you could need and we cooked for ourselves a couple of nights. One thing I would suggest is some hand soap in the bathroom. Thank you for the welcome pack of lovely Rodda butter, milk, bread, biscuits and Stilton it was very much appreciated. West Portholland is a lovely secluded little spot and you pretty much have a private little beach steps away which was special to wake up to each morning. I’d love to come back one day.

“We had a really enjoyable stay at Cliff Cottage - a real hideaway from our busy lives.”

The cottage is ideally located just minutes from the little beach and remoteness allowed us to have complete darkness and silence to look at the stars from the hot tub. The cottage is nicely decorated with lovely little trinkets and finishing touches and a great size for two of us and our dog. We were given a few lovely treats on arrival which was great! The weather was really mild for late October but the house did feel a little chilly and the sofas weren’t massively comfy after a long day exploring. All that said, we had an enjoyable week.

“Lovely cottage in beautiful spot.”

A surprise welcome gift of local cheese & crackers, scones, jam & cream was very much appreciated. Downfall was some pans were rusty so had to be washed before use, tin opener not working even though comments from previous guests had been ignored. (good job we had a pen knife). Bedside lamp in double room but no socket to plug in. No hanging space in 2nd bedroom or bedside lamp socket. Could do with a clothes airer. Mind your head signs.

Lovely coastal and country lanes walks to be had from the cottage. Used my vehicle once in the whole week as me and Ted..my cocker spaniel friend, explored the nuts n cranys through out the area.. bliss.

“The cottage and its location were more stunning than the photos showed.”

It cost more than we would normally spend for a week but was so worth it for the sea views and quiet beach on the doorstep. We appreciated the little gifts of scones, jam, cream, juice and milk. We are very grateful for the assistance with the oven from the owner. Only possible improvements are new knife block as the coating is peeling off knives and sticking to food, and removing the security tag from pillows in bedroom. Overall amazing place, so glad we chose this cottage and area, and already planning to re-book. Loved it.

“Great location & cottage but unfortunately it wasn't as clean as we'd expect.”

Sofa unusable due to previous renter issue. Odd TV. Previous renter recycling not collected. No dishwasher tabs provided. Hot tub not cleaned/chemicals rebalanced all week it seemed. Otherwise a lovely place just could do with some tlc and attention to detail.

“This was our second visit to Cliff Cottages within a year.”

Once again it was excellent and suited our needs of a very quiet and stunning location, hot tub and an opportunity to rest and recover from general life. The cottage had everything we needed including the comforting noises from the sea waves as we slept at night. The location is great if you want peace and quiet and coastal walks. We swam in the sea, as literally 30 seconds walk from the front door. We shall be back! Thank you.

“The cottage was stunning, the decor beautiful , loved the attention to detail and all of the artwork.”

Thankyou for the welcome pack of food and all of the information provided. It was really helpful. The bed in the main bedroom was super comfy but the foam mattress in the second bedroom Was uncomfortable. It was lovely to hear the waves crashing at night and the view was stunning I feel that the cottage needed a washing machine, we had bought clothes for 7 days but due to the bad weather we did need to wash items after being on the beach. The hot tub was lovely The cottage itself was in a lovely location… it really did feel like a retreat to us…. It was also close to many beautiful places to visit. We noticed some flies in the kitchen, but once we had got rid of them they kept reappearing in The bathroom. The were hundreds of big blue bottle flies up in the sky light. We would get rid of them and they kept coming back but not sure why, our child would not go in the bathroom until all of the flies had gone! Possibly they were coming from the vent by back Door? Overall it was lovely and we would return , Thankyou

“A perfect place to get away from everything!”

Just what we needed. The garden was a micro climate! All came back with a tan at the beginning of April. Only down side was the toaster tripped out the electrics when we tried to use it, and the decking could do with a white line to show the different levels. Mum is on her late 60’s and nearly tripped a couple of times

Could not of asked for more. The little extras went down a treat. Clotted cream with jam and scones. The cirnish blue cheese with the Biscuites was just what I needed after the long drive. The peace and tranquility and beauty just on your door step. Listening to the waves at night. Will definitely come back. The owners have outdone themselves with this cottage.

“We had a fantastic holiday at Cliff Cottages.”

It was perfect for our needs and is a great location for peace, quiet and a dip in the sea! The house was very, very clean and comfortable. We loved the hot tub and wifi was perfect, no issues with at all. We did read the previous reviews and noted about the lack of drying space, so we took our own clothes horse which did the job for us and drying towels. Might be something to consider purchasing for the house for when you cannot get towels and clothes out on the washing line. But aside from that the house and location allowed us to relax, switch off and really enjoy our holiday - so much so, we did not want to come home! We have bookmarked for returning - thank you.

“Absolutely love this cottage perfect location it was nice to see the new carpet.”

Would off gave it a 5 star just a few things let it down the shower wasn’t working properly never got very warm and the spa was overdosed with chlorine it actually ruined our swimwear but apart from that we couldn't recommend this place enough.

“This is the third time we have stayed at this lovely cottage.”

The location is amazing and the cottage is really lovely. It was a treat to arrive to see it had been refreshed with a new carpet etc We only have a couple of niggles: the tv is tricky and this time we did ask for help which was forthcoming. But the device isn’t great tbh and we had to sign in to our own Netflix account. It is also really tricky to get towels dry so we always take our own plus some beach towels … some more hooks in the bathroom and another heated towel rail would be amazing as the damp sea air has sometimes resulted in a boring trip to the laundrette in Truro to wash and dry towels! That said, we love the cottage and will return next year: highly recommend it ;-)

“Wonderful location, quaint quirky property.”

Enjoyed the hot tub most evenings after a long walk. Bed was not that comfortable, also not ideal for dog as no garden (decking area only) so had to be taken for walk down the road. We enjoyed our stay nonetheless.

“This cottage looks good in the photos but in reality it is awful, worn out, filthy and uncomfortable furniture.”

Door ways and stairs are too low for tall people,(no mention of it in listings)several bumps on head received! Cobwebs everywhere, stains on carpets and on throws. No heating in kitchen, hot water lasts for 1 minute then runs cold. Minimal instructions for property. Holiday was cut very short due to all of this, to uncomfortable to stay.

I just wanted to share some feedback with you. The guests who stayed in 2 Cliff Cottage after your visit had a really great time. They loved the house and their stay, and left some wonderful comments. I just wanted to let you know that there is a Welcome and Information pack on the bottom shelf of the coffee table in the lounge area. It has all the details for connecting to the WiFi and contact information for myself and the Housekeeper, who are always ready to help with any issues. As for the bunk beds, I understand that there might have been a misunderstanding. The description on the Sykes website mentions that the beds are suitable for children under 12. Also, your booking was for 2 adults, but it seems there were more than 2 people in the cottage. I hope this helps clarify things. Property Owner

“A perfect holiday.”

the hot tub was a lovely bonus and so private. Amazing views. The treats left were very welcome. We put the dustbin out as requested but it was not emptied - maybe to do with being out of season, also no date for the recycling. Those are the only things but even that could not spoil our time. so peaceful - even if the weather was not great. Would recommend directions to the local garage as we found ourselves being sent down tractor lanes by the satnav, which was rather scary in the daylight and white knuckle gripping in the dark.

“Absolutely beautiful cottage and stunning location a few thing’s disappointed me the hedge hadn’t been cut for a while so the view from the back garden was blocked, the hot tub clearly needed a water change it wasn’t the cleanest looking where the hose was it hadn’t moved for some time I know there’s a hose pipe ban but the hose pipe can be used for business use.”

And the last you need to add to your description that the fridge won’t hold a 4 pint milk in the door the fridge itself wasn’t big enough but apart from that beautiful

“This is a lovely little cottage in a truly beautiful location.”

It is pleasantly decorated and we had a wonderful two week stay. The hot tub was great. The only negative I could give is that as we stayed for two weeks we would have liked a washing machine, which could have been installed instead of a dishwasher. Also the hedge by the hot tub needed trimming which spoiled the beautiful view of the sea and beach. I would fully recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing sea front stay in a beautiful location.

“This is a lovely place to stay - we’ve visited more than once and intend to go again.”

There are just a few tweaks that could improve comfort but nothing major. It’s a really beautiful cottage in a fantastic setting - ideal for our young son who just loves the beach. The only real niggle for us is that there is no washing/drying facility so our top tip is to take an airer and extra towels! Highly recommend this cottage ;-)

“A very clean, quiet and delightful quaint cottage, with stunning sea views.”

The hot tub in the secluded garden looking out to sea was a superb finishing touch. The beach is a 30 second walk! We were placed here last minute due to a fault with another local property we were staying in, but one night here ended up making our holiday perfect. We will be returning here again!!

“Cooker did not have any instructions and could not get the oven to work, also needed a clean.”

“The cottage is in a stunning location which makes it.”

However, it wasn’t entirely clean, there were finger nails on the table underneath the cook books. There were also no settee cushions (only decorative ones) on the backs of the settees making for very uncomfortable seating. The mattress in the main bedroom was very uncomfortable. The hot tub was dirty (I have photographs) and so full of bubbles and chlorine (because it hadn’t been cleaned) it stung our eyes. It also ruined my silver jewellery, which I have never had a problem with wearing in a hot tub before. Again down to the amount of chlorine. My jewellery is very sentimental to me as most of it was bought as gifts from friends and family, so this I am most gutted about. Unfortunately I will not be recommending this beautiful cottage based on the above.

“This is a lovely cottage in a great location - we will definitely want to stay there again.”

There are just a few niggles which could do easily be fixed to make it a full 5 stars: there is nowhere to hang wet swimwear to dry so a small washing line or some hooks outside would easily fix this issue The patio area needed a bit of tlc - a sweep - and we really struggled with the TV which didn’t seem to have the usual channels (eg BBC) so we had to log in to our own Disney account etc - but otherwise, we would highly recommend this lovely cottage!

“The cottage was lovely and in a great secluded location with the beach on your doorstep, it was well equipped bar a few basics but being self catering that is understandable, unfortunately the bed mattress did not agree with my wife and I and we both felt it very uncomfortable which affected our sleep.”

“Location superb.”

Attention to detail in some areas let it down. Outside area needed a clean and thorough sweep. The mattress in the main bedroom needs changing. A lack of helpful detail in your handbook eg TV instructions, description of local cafe, restaurants. Providing better and bigger towels is required. We did enjoy our stay, just a few tweaks would have made it 5 star!

“The cottage is absolutely perfect if you are looking for a quiet get away!”

me and my partner spent the whole weekend in the cottage with out really feeling the need to leave, everything essential for a weekend stay is provided in the cottage all that we had to worry about arriving with food and water lol! The hosts do a great job of ensuring the bedding, towels, bathroom and kitchen utensils are spotless. The cottage was immaculate upon arrival and it is clear to see the cottage is well looked after all year round. There was one slight issue we encountered and that was the fact the hot tub wasn't heated and ready upon arrival................ However, this is very much a first world problem and would 100% not effect my decision to stay here again in the future!

About the location

GORRAN HAVEN

Mevagissey 3 miles.

Once a crab fishing village, Gorran Haven on the south coast of Cornwall is ideally placed to explore the many beaches and coves in the area. Gorran Haven has a small sandy beach set behind a traditional sea wall, connecting with the longer Great Perhaver beach at low tide and is popular with families. Much of the coastline in this area is owned by the National Trust and is readily accessible from the South West Coast Path that passes through Gorran Haven. Within walking distance are a number of more isolated beaches and the 370 feet high Dodman Point, rising above Gorran, which is thought to be one of Cornwall’s most dramatic headlands, and the cause of many a shipwreck. From its gorse-covered heights there are views across Veryan Bay to the west and Vault Beach to the east. Alternatively, you may wish to walk the coastal path to the harbour village of Mevagissey. Near Gorran Haven, in a beautiful setting of woodland, stream and pasture, is Caerhays Castle, an informal 60-acre garden on the coast near Porthluney Cove. Nearby attractions are the wonderful Lost Gardens of Heligan, Eden Project, Wheal Martyn China Clay Museum and the cathedral town of Truro, with an excellent range of quality shopping and dining.
