Tolcarne

Tolcarne was a fantastic property for a multi-generational family with 4 bedrooms and one being on ground floor for accessibility.

There was plenty of seating in the lounge area, which often falls short in similar properties. 2 ensuite bathrooms (wet room with ground floor bedroom) and a further family bathroom. The only niggle was the downstairs wet room had a rather enthusiastic shower which left the entire bathroom wet (even with the floor wiper)- a slight hazard for my elderly parents. A short walk to local cafe, bar, shop and beach was a great hit. 2 parking spaces was a huge plus, along with electric car charger. 4 full sized double bedrooms (some with zip linked beds). The house was warm and clean when we arrived and the hot tub was cleaned circa every three days which was a great service. We would definitely stay again - thank you.

Straight away we could feel that the property simply undergoes the very basic upkeep necessary inbetween each guests arrival with cleanliness severly lacking

Great location to be able to explore Cornwall, property was clean and spacious, with all the facilities needed for a lovely stay.

Fantastic accommodation, we have stayed in several towan valley holiday lets and Tolcarne has been the best, great facilitates, furnishings well thought through i.

e. good wardrobe space, lots of mirrors to use to get ready. really clean throughout, will definitely use this accommodation again

absolutely stunning place to stay in, great location with the beach and a stunning rock pool right on the doorstep.

the place was in amazing condition when we first arrived, exactly how stated on pictures with hot tub kept in great condition. the only downsides to this place was the downstairs bedrooms en-suite did not drain properly due to it being a wet room so flooded easily making it very difficult to get to the toilet and sink without getting wet. overall a sunning place to stay and i would highly recommend to anyone looking for a spacious home for a group of people. We had a great holiday whilst here, very clean, great hot tub, and lovely decor.

The only things we had issues with was the front door was abit temperamental, and some days we had difficulty locking it. Other recommendations would be to spray paint numbers on both spaces in front of the property so the accommodation next door are aware that is not their space and would definitely save some confusion, we were lucky that those next to us at the time only had one car so this wasn’t an issue for us. My other suggestion would be maybe have a soap dispenser on the wall in the upstairs bathrooms rather than bar soap. Other than that, an amazing stay and I think we would return.

The property is surrounded by other holiday properties, parking was difficult and you couldn't always park outside of the property which did cause difficulties. The area by the hot tub needs some tlc, so we only went out there once. We had to contact the owners as we spotted a rat on the decking near the patio door. The maintenance person arrived to put poison down, but it did put us off going outside to enjoy the hot tub. The bedrooms are comfortable so no complaints, the downstairs area was small as the dining table is huge and takes up a lot of the space so it is difficult if there are quite a few of you in the property. The cleanliness of the property was average, we had a problem with the upstairs shower in the ensuite, it was taking forever to drain so you had to be careful not to be in there too long. The road up to the property is single track, walking down to the beach is difficult especially if you have children as when cars are going up and down there are not many passing places to get out of the way of the cars. Overall I would not return to this property.

Lovely position, near beach. Road to it very narrow, Sykes say 3 parking spaces but only one when you get there and it states this in the property folder. Family member burnt his hand on a faulty radiator which later fell off the wall as brackets literally melted. This tripped the switch leaving us with very little working, including hot water in two bathrooms. Hard to contact anyone and had to use phone in nearby pub to leave message. Maintenance made live wire safe but was unable to fix/ replace. Left with one electric shower only do struggle for my elderly mother. Lovely welcome pack of cream tea on arrival, best hot tub and hot tub maintenance ever experienced. Homely feel, decor and comfort. I’m sure we would return again but only if Sykes can promise all facilities are in good working order and give clarity on parking space/ spaces?? Also, give clearer directions please as I used Google maps to find exact address.

The property was in a lovely location, a short walk downhill to the beach.

The beach bars are also easily walkable. The only thing the location needs is a road sign, as it's so easy to miss. The small road/track you need towards the houses, is immediately after a car park on the left. We have a lovely cream tea welcome pack left for us. The house itself is lovely, nice high ceilings and plenty of room. No wardrobes, just hanging rails, which is Ok for a short stay. But getting around the bed with that was a little annoying (we had the downstairs room). TV and Alexa. We didn't really cook much, but it was all there. Take some toilet roll, as there didn't seem to be quite enough for our weekend. The hot tub was a nice treat, and it actually stayed hot. Overall, we were really happy to have stayed there, and would consider it again.

The down stairs wet room radiator doesn’t work.

The bulb in the master bedroom on-suite it’s working and the fridge isn’t working correctly.

the house was fantastic very comfortable and clean well decorated and the hot tub was perfect way to relax after long days of walking.

Only 1 issue that recycling and waste bins were full on arrival this my have been an oversight and wasn't a problem. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be booking again

Photographic advert we think is misleading where although the property provided adequate space the photo shows Tolcarne and the property next door only evident on arrival.

The limited space at the rear is not shown. Other than main bedroom upstairs all other bedrooms only had hanging rails. We did experience very good service when we had a problem with no hot water that was fixed same day as fault reported. Overall we enjoyed our stay at Tolcarne.

I thought the inside decor was really cosy and beautiful and was surprised by the uplifting high ceiling and windows at the back of the lounge area with views of outside trees.

Lying in the hot tub with the trees and sounds of bird song was really relaxing and really miss that part of holiday. Please don’t get rid of the hot tub as made the holiday extra relaxing. We were also surprised how close we were to sea; as walkable in 10 minutes. After couple of days discovered cliff path from top of lane hill; just outside houses area; I thought it was just someone’s drive; was handy to walk the dog. Would be good if there was a cliff path sign there, but it’s just handily opposite the dog poo bin. The cliff path area was stunning, and surprised to find walk north to Chapel cove closer than we thought( although would be more of a trek with a young family and beach stuff to carry; so would be easier then to drive to);and amazed such a small cove had a really good cafe and toilets. Would definitely love to come back sometime. There is a friendly grocery store; which we should have used more but had arranged a Tesco delivery; also a great pub and a relaxing bar where you can order food. Also a chip shop that is open the later part of the week and weekends. The gift shop near bar has a great supply of beach type stuff if you forget anything, like flip flops, beach mats, towels. If you love the beach; you really wouldn’t need to venture out of Porthtowan if the weather was good.

As stated to Sykes cottages we found the house dirty.

It needed a very good clean which we did ourselves. All tables, sides and most other areas in fact where dirty. Contacted the number left for us to be told they don’t work there anymore.

The apartment we stayed in for our holiday was exceptional.

It was clean, well stocked and even had tiny touches such as tea towels, dishwasher tablets, washing tablets, fairy liquid, milk and some scones with jam and butter to welcome us! Other places I have stayed and have quite literally been empty but this was a lovely surprise after a long drive! The owners and maintenance company were on hand for any queries we had and the location itself was beautiful! Just a walk down the hill and you are on the beach and have the luxury of a cafe, bar, pub and ice cream shop! A 10 minute drive to be able to get any other essentials such as Tesco and petrol! Would highly recommend this property!

Great place to stay with all the family.

It was clean had all the facilities and equipment needed to cook and prepare meals, close to pubs and restaurants to eat out. Great hot tub we all enjoyed it several times a day. Only point to note is there is no phone signal so great if you want to be off grid, not so great if you're if you need it, wi-fi was unfortunately not working for first 24 hours but this was fixed by the Sykes team who were very friendly and efficient. Great to be able to charge the car and a dog friendly place too.

Excellent holiday cottage.

Lovely and clean and modern. Well equipped kitchen and comfy beds. Fantastic location, close to the beach and cliff top walks. Only slight niggle is that we didn’t have WiFi for 3 days - this was a local issue rather than specific to this cottage.

We had a wonderful stay at Tolcarne with our dogs and two teenagers.

The property has been updated with all the facilities needed and was clean on arrival. All the rooms are decorated to a high standard. We had a few issues with the EV charger, but this was eventually rectified. The short but steep walk into Porthtowan meant that we could have an extra cream tea! Porthtowan itself if beautifully unspoilt, with a couple of places to eat and drink, a local store offering fresh baked goods and general items at realistic prices, everyone was just so friendly. The beach and surrounding area is truly stunning whether the tide is in or out. The walk over the cliff path to Porth Chapel is definitely worth the effort, especially for the views and the ice-cream at the end. The teens enjoyed the surf school and would highly recommend. Would we go back? of course. In fact we had to force ourselves to leave. Thank you.

The house and location were brilliant.

We weren’t really expecting such a lovely house as the price was reasonable. Everything was spotless, comfortable and modern , the hot tub was a real bonus . The village was also lovely , a couple of pubs and cafe , local shop and great cliff walks. The kids were happy and so were we. All round fabulous break.

Extremely disappointed with promised EV charging not functioning (and agents advice to use distant public chargers not acceptable solution).

This property is falsely advertised and this feature should be removed from website. Need to charge elsewhere caused us to cut our stay short which is a shame as rest of facilities are very good.

Lovely lodge which is fabulously appointed and beds so comfy. We even survived storm Ciaran! Very relaxing and my husband and teenage sons loved the hot tub. We would definitely come here again!

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in Tolcarne. Perfect for our family. Accessible for our 90 year old mum and the hot tub got lots of use by the kids. This is our second stay in Porthtowan and we just love it. Cornwall has our heart and we hope to be back soon! You will most definitely enjoy your stay here.
