“We really enjoyed our stay at the property, and were very surprised by how clean and well appointed everything was, with all amenities included.”

Arrival and check in was super easy. Everything was clean. Clearly identified parking available. Kitchen has a hob, combi-microwave, kettle, washing-machine and dishwasher (with 2 tablets kindly provided for each), along with a parasol for the balcony. Instruction manuals for everything provided in a folder (in drawer under tv). Best thing is it's walking distance to both beaches of Portcurno and Pedn Vounder. Only improvements could be the mattress and the washing machine - its programmes are a ...

“The property was compact and reasonably well equipped.”

The bed was not great but it wasn't the worst. Bedding was adequate. The property looked clean, but when I had a shower after my first night, I looked up to see the dirtiest shower head I had ever seen, covered with black mould. I decided I could not use the shower and would have to manage without. When I picked up my shoes from next to the front door, a lot of nettle type bugs scattered and disappeared under the skirting board. I took all my belongings and put them in the car. I was there under difficult circumstances and didn't feel able to deal with the owners who I had spoken to before finding these issues. Mould presents a significant risk to my health. I do have photos but there doesn't appear to be any way of uploading them as part of this review.

Also advertised with a good pub and beach cafe only meters away they both closed down what looked like years ago all boarded up and overgrown by weeds

Thanks for your feedback and comments related to our holiday apartment. We responded immediately to your message regarding the so called FLOOD and we said we would come over straight away to sort out the problem, but we were told you were out for the day and not to go in until you got back ( so obviously not a big issue ) Came over when you got back to no FLOOD but a tiny pool of water on the floor due to condensation from the window because you closed all the windows and put the heating on full blast when it was really warm outside and the humidity caused the condensation. Asked if you would vent the apartment to relieve the issue but the windows stayed closed. The itinerary for the apartment doesn't advertise it as having a pub as it closed down years ago and the cafe finished for the season mid September. To sum things up the weather was bad , you moaned about stubbing your toe in the shower and the fact that there was nowhere to eat and drink. On a parting shot we understand you told other guests in the building that you never stay anywhere longer than a couple of nights, so obviously you are creatures of habit !!! Property Owner

“We have visited Porthcurno for many years and it was great to return in September this year.”

Seascape is clean and comfortable with easy access car parking but it is the little things that let it down. Every property I have ever stayed in over the years provides the bear essentials but we were very disappointed to find just half a toilet roll, a quarter of a bottle of Carex soap in the bathroom, just ONE bin liner in the cupboard, very basic tea and coffee sachets and no salt/pepper. I think for the price paid it wouldn't have been too much to expect a couple of loo rolls and perhaps a nice little wrapped bar of soap? A few biscuits in the welcome pack? The milk in the fridge was appreciated but considering the nearest large supermarket is a 20 mile round trip, I feel a little more effort could have been made. It felt like we were being told: "Here, don't expect any more than THAT!" I certainly never think to pack salt and pepper and also there was no cork screw so, when we sat down to relax with a glass of wine the first evening, we couldn't uncork it! The apartment is in a lovely position, the bed was comfortable but larger people would struggle with the tiny shower. Also we would have liked a lamp in the living room because you either sit in the dark watching television, or in bright light! We actually moved a small lamp from the bedroom to make it cosier. So overall the property is very clean and comfortable but no effort was made with the little things that, to me personally, mean a lot!

We are sorry to hear your negative comments regarding what products you expected on your arrival, but we must remind you that the apartment is self catering and most guests bring with them the essentials they need for their stay. The apartment booking price was at a 'bargain basement ' cost, ourselves only receiving the sum of less than £27.00 for each of you per day which does not equate to supplying much other than the bare minimum. On a positive note we are pleased on your comments regarding how clean the apartment was , which is a credit to our housekeeper. On a final note the corkscrew is located in the utensils drawer. “Perfect location for me and property was ideal for a single person.”

Description was a little optimistic and I think "sleeps 2" is definitely a stretch of the imagination, I would not want to stay with a second person as only a small 2 seater sofa and bed mattress has clearly seen better days with the noises the springs were making! Also, description said there was a DVD player and there wasn't one. Shower was blocked with sand, so maybe this should be checked after every guest has left. Other than this I would definitely stay again, but solo only.

“Leaking door seal,damp with mold on wall,s.”

I had to leave news paper on the floors in both the dinning area and bedroom it was placed against the walls .it spoilt my xmas some what,its a shame,but I will not be looking to go back next xmas..and as you can see by your records i,ve been going down to porthcurno for a few years.

We are very sorry to hear of the issues you raise, which are in stark contrast to all positive reviews we’ve received for the property, none of which were flagged to us during your stay. As you’ll see to date, comments on Seascape have been complimentary throughout and yours is the first which isn’t so. We’ve spoken to the owners who disputes your statement on a leaking door seal, damp and mould and feel these comments are unfair and unjustified. It was noted on your departure that the heating had been turned up full and windows left closed for the duration of your stay. During what was an extremely wet week with continuous and relentless rain the drying of your hiking equipment caused extreme condensation, which in turn caused mould like spores to appear on the walls. The owners have checked and confirmed that the door seal is in perfect condition and there have been no reports of any 'leaks' since. The owners take their letting of Seascape very seriously and they pride themselves on giving good holiday experiences – this is reflected in the feedback we have received, and we have every confidence this will continue to be the case moving forward. “The apartment had everything that we needed and was very clean on arrival.”

We read that the bed was a little hard, however we found it really comfy. We would of liked a more comfortable sofa, as it was hard. The washer/ dryer and dishwasher were a real treat as there items not normally supplied. I would absolutely recommend the apartment.. The position is a very short walk from the beach and some amazing costal walks, can get a little noisy in the morning with the traffic, but not an issue.

Really clean, not a spek of dust even on skirting boards! Everything we could have needed was avaliable at the apartment. Only downside was that the mattress was a bit hard but that is up to personal preference. Would defenitely be looking to stay here again!

Everything was lovely but it would have been nice to have a bigger shower and a tumble dryer as we washed our towels and the provided towels but as there was no where to dry them while we were out they went horrid smelling as they drip dried on the floor.

“It was a real shame that there were two things that partly spoilt the holiday.”

Firstly even though previous customers had mentioned online the softness of the mattress on the bed, the owners had failed to do anything about it, be warned. To say it was uncomfortable was an understatement and led to seven very uncomfortable nights. Secondly the tv in the bedroom doesn't work as no signal can be achieved, again as previously mentioned online on your website and the one in the lounge you need a degree to configure the set-up. I know a tv isn't everything on a holiday but when it's advertised it should already be set up and working. The apartment is well equipped although there was a feeling of end of season about the place and a little maintenance wouldn't go astray, given the six hours between the property being vacated and new clients being allowed to gain access. I'm afraid to rate it as a 4 star holiday accommodation is far of the mark, perhaps a two would be better? Apart from that Porthcurno is a lovely place and it's a shame the edge was taken off our holiday. Hopefully these comments will be passed to the owners for some sort of action!

“It is a well equipped and very clean apartment.”

It was lovely to see fresh flowers a packet of biscuits and 2 pints of milk waiting for us when we arrived, such a kind thought. Just a couple of negative points - the sofa is more of a large armchair and so cannot seat 2 people comfortably which means that a couple cannot sit together. The bed seemed comfy but the mattress was soft and I did not have a comfortable night's sleep and ended up with a bad back. But that is just personal to me, but thought it may be worth a mention in case any prospective traveller has back issues. It may also be worth mentioning that there is no mobile phone signal at the cottage or in the surrounding area. There is however wifi at the Cable Inn just up from the cottage. It is a lovely, fresh apartment and a great base for exploring the West of Cornwall.

About the location

PORTHCURNO

Land’s End 4 miles; St. Just 9 miles; Penzance 9 miles; St Ives 17 miles.

The small village of Porthcurno is situated four miles from Land’s End on the south coast of West Cornwall. The village has a sandy beach, a café, a restaurant that’s open during the summer season and cliff-top and coastal walks. Porthcurno is also home to the Museum of Global Communications, where you can learn about the underwater cables that connected the village to various places around the world. To the west of Porthcurno is the famous Minack Theatre, which is a superb open air venue with 750 seats and boasts views across Porthcurno Bay to The Lizard. Close by is Land’s End, the most westerly point of mainland England offering something for all the family, and also within reach are lovely Cornish towns and villages, including the popular resorts of Penzance and St Ives. A delightful base for exploring this part of Cornwall.
