Willow, Retallack

Willow Lodge is a wonderful alpine chalet.

It was immaculately presented and perfectly suited for 8 adults (with 3 large sofas for people to rotate on if they are restless sleepers, or like to sleep near to their dogs). The chalet is dog friendly and the back terrace is completely secluded with a beautiful, large clean Jacuzzi. We placed a sun lounger in front of the back steps to prevent the dogs escaping. This helped create a refreshing sea breeze on the hottest June in history and allowed the dogs to walk through from the front terrace to the back patio safely. Jamie was a friendly and helpful host. I highly recommend Jamie and Willow Lodge. Retallack Resort is well situated near Padstow and Newquay - we also loved Trevone and Fistral Bays (the latter being perfect for surfing and it is dog friendly). The younger adults had a go at the Surf Simulator, the Wave Rider on the lake and the Water Park inflatables - all were great fun. We were so busy during our 5 days that we didn't get time to try the pool, but the onsite cafe and shop were just the job.

We had a wonderful stay at Willow Lodge.

On arrival we were met with a lovely clean lodge with some complimentary packs of both fruit scones and plain scones, so very welcome after our 7 hour drive. The hot tub was clean and up to temperature which was a big bonus for our first night there. The site is very nice and well kept and Willow Lodge definitely has the best spot as it’s elevated with a very private area at the back to enjoy the hot tub. We did felt that the top floor would definitely benefit from ceiling fans or even stand up fans as we literally had to sleep in the lounge on one occasion as it was so unbearable upstairs, there’s no way a child would have coped in the small bedroom adjacent to ours. To be fair, we went during a particularly hot spell. We would recommend Willow Lodge as it’s lovely and also situated in a great place for exploring the local beaches and towns, we particularly enjoyed Padstow, Port Isaac, and many of the beautiful coves nearby. It was a beautiful lodge perfectly suited to our needs.

It was very comfortable, it felt private with lovely views and the hot tub, located in a private terrace at the back of the lodge was hot, clean and comfortable.

We stayed at this accommodation for 1 week with our family, and it’s more beautiful than the photos.

The bedrooms are beautiful! Our children stayed upstairs in the single room and they loved having that floor with a lounge to themself up there!!! The views are fantastic and it’s only a short walk to the facilities on site which was a bonus We would recommend this property to anyone!! Thank you to the Host for making our stay perfect

Our week stay here was brilliant from start to finish.

Everywhere was immaculate, everything we needed was there. Brilliant location, a short drive to our favourite places like Newquay, Perranporth, Padstow, Port Isaac. The hot tub was lovely, it was tucked away around the back of the lodge so you’re not overlooked. There’s 2 downstairs bedrooms & a family bathroom which was perfect for my mom and dad who have mobility issues so everything they needed was on the ground floor. A perfect place for 2 families as it has 2 separate living rooms (one upstairs & one down). Brilliant place to go exploring & the owner is very helpful if any issues arise. We had a lovely holiday in Cornwall but that was despite the accommodation.

Listed as being 5-star accommodation, and described by the Retallack Resort as "luxury accommodation", nothing can be further from the truth. Dealing with the few positives first: - Willow lodge is number 10 on the estate, and it is in a nice secluded part of the park. - The hot tub was clean and very nice and was used throughout our holiday. - The stone built BBQ outside was very clean. Other than these few positives, overall the property was very disappointing and we will not be returning. Several issues/faults include: - On arrival at 3pm (which was the stated check-in time) we had to wait almost another hour for the lodge to be ready. After a long drive from the Midlands, we should be able to use the property from the stated time. - Despite being a "strictly non-smoking" property, the property generally and the third bedroom in particular stank of stale cigarette smoke. It was obvious prior occupants had been smoking or vaping in the property. - There is only one curtain for the right window in the main bedroom and it doesn't fit the window. We had to put a blanket up on the rail to stop light streaming into the room in the mornings. (Oddly, the left hand window had 2 curtains) - The shower in the ensuite to the main bedroom doesn't drain properly, so every time it is used you're standing in a puddle. - The toilet seat completely broken in the main bathroom - Towel rail in main bathroom hanging off the wall. - Kitchen is at first appearance well stocked and to be fair the hob is pretty good. However, the fridge kept freezing all the contents despite us amending the setting several times. The oven is rather noisy and basic, and the soap flap/dispenser in the dishwasher doesn't open properly when put on a wash cycle, so the dishes didn't clean properly. - The washing machine was a joke. Tried to use it several times but rather than clean, the machine leaked all over the floor, spewing/leaking soap detergent all over the place As to the Rettalack site more widely, it is lacking in several areas: - There is really only one bar/restaurant, making it rather limiting for choice of food. To be fair the food was nice as were the staff. - The "gym" is very old and needs to be overhauled entirely. Some of the machines were broken and a lot of the kit needs to be replaced. - We had one of our activities on the lake cancelled by Retallack as they decided to hold a staff training session instead. Why offer the times for booking in the first place? I am still waiting on a refund and will be contacting Retallack resorts (again) about this. - The water lake is quite small and is divided into two. The half designated for wakeboarding and paddleboarding is in a very poor state with almost half of that area overtaken with extensive waterlillies making it unusable. - The coffee shop at the water lake is basic, serving really only hot and cold drinks, snacks and ice-creams. You can't buy any sandwiches or light lunches apart from pizza. - The male changing rooms were out of order for watersports, so the ladies changing room was designated as unisex. The floor of the changing room was also filthy and not regularly cleaned. Overall the property and Retallack were a major disappointment. We will return to Cornwall but will be staying elsewhere

Returning customer to Willow Lodge, the family and I find it a Lovely place and well located to our favourite beaches and days outs.

A lovely property and quite private.

The beds were comfortable and the place was clean. However my party all complained about the pillows being lumpy and uncomfortable they might need replacing? It was well appointed and had everything you needed and a welcome gift of some scones clotted cream and jam. A very nice touch overall we had a good holiday.

The Willows was an excellent place to stay with all the family.

6 Adults and 4, 3 and under children. Very spacious lounges with plenty of seating for relaxing. Large table for dining and very well equipped. Hot tub was a lovely extra. We had a great stay and would highly recommend the Willows. Thank you.

We have been staying at rettalack for the last 13 years and stayed at many different properties on the site and I can honestly say that willow lodge is one of the best we have ever stayed in.

The cleanliness was 100% perfect and great attention to detail. The garden/ hot tub area was private. The owners were available via text when we needed to ask questions. We will definitely be returning in the future and would highly recommend to anyone wanting to stay in a luxury lodge

Absolutely fantastic.

Loved the house and the hot tub. The dogs loved their stay too. Loved the swimming pool. Newquay and Padstow only a few miles away. Beautiful beaches. Excellent family holiday. Highly recommend.

We had a brilliant stay at Willow Lodge and would definitely return.

The property was very spacious, clean, comfortable and well positioned within the resort. It had absolutely everything we could ever need for a week away and the complimentary welcome pack was a lovely touch. As we visited out of season, some of the resort facilities were not yet open but we made use of everything that was, including the Flowrider which the kids loved! Within easy reach of both coastlines we were never short of new places to visit but it was lovely to have a home from home to come back to after a long day and the (very private) hot tub was an added bonus!

Good accommodation, comfortable beds, had everything we needed. Good site facilities, lodge needs a bit of maintenance but nothing that affected our stay. We had a great time.

The place was clean and unlike other lodges at the resort, the tub is really quite private which was great for watching the stars from.

Everything you need and more.

Cannot fault Willow Lodge, comfy beds, spacious, great welcome pack on arrival, clean & warm, everyone enjoyed it there! There was 4 adults, 3 children and 1 dog that stayed and not once did we feel we were on top of each other. The hot tub was also spacious and enough room for most of us to get in. Really can’t say anything else other than perfect!

As a large family this holiday home was perfect.

We where able to do all the Christmas catering easily with the well stocked kitchen. The kids loved the space and facilities available especially the hot tub. We would definitely use willow lodge again.

The lodge itself was very impressive from the outside but the inside needs some loving care and attention.

However overall the facility had everything one wanted and the park itself was excellent.

Nice and clean. Some of the lounge furniture downstairs is starting to show its age as was getting a little uncomfortable when we had to sit on it for a few hours at a time due to the wet weather. The hot tub was great especially after a long days walking. Overall would recommend and stay again

Well equipped and plenty of room for the whole family and the dog too. Very friendly and helpful owner with great communication. Spent the Christmas break here and the owner provided decorations and the kitchen was so well equipped we cooked a full Christmas dinner for 8.

Easy booking process, great property with fantasic facilities, and a responsive host.

Willow lodge was well presented and fully equipped with everything you need and is on a lovely quiet site.

Padstow was only a 10 - 15 minute drive away so not far to go to the coast, but it was lovely coming away from the hustle and bustle back to the lodge at the end of the day. The resort was only small but had a lovely pool which we used twice and had a bar and restaurant which we made use of. We had a lovely holiday and would recommend both the resort and the lodge.

Perfect location, short distance to Newquay, Padstow and Port isaac.

Willow Lodge has the most fantastic views, probably the best on the site. 8 of us stayed in June and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

We had a fantastic stay at Willow Lodge.

It’s beautifully laid out and very well equipped. We liked that it was on a quiet corner plot of the resort and it suited our party of 2 adults, 3 kids & 2 dogs perfectly. We didn't bother with the resort facilities although it was handy to have the shop on site ( and we appreciated the food welcome gifts left for us ). We used it as a base to explore padstow and all the surrounding areas, including a visit to the Eden project that we loved. There are some incredible beaches locally that we found out about in the information pack that the owners Jamie & Amanda had thoughtfully put together. We’d thoroughly recommend it to any families looking for a comfortable base to explore the area from. We hope to return next year when we understand the lodge will also have a hot tub - the cherry on the cake!

My family and I had an amazing time at Willow Lodge.

The facilities were brilliant. Being a corner plot was great for our grandchildren aged 5 & 8. Would highly recommend for a family holiday.

Lodge was amazing and we loved the resort but we were disappointed that we couldnt use the pool every day.

We feel that should have been made clearer to us.

We really enjoyed our week in Willow Lodge (number 10) on the Retallack resort, the property was very well appointed, immaculately presented, comfortable with two 'living room' areas and had everything we needed.

The only thing missing was oven gloves (but given COVID restrictions this was probably by design), honestly - that was about the only thing we missed! The location of the lodge was great, tucked away on the edge of the resort gave a good level of privacy. There were only 3 of us staying in the property plus our dog which meant loads of room, I think 8 could stay very comfortably, 10 would be fine, 12 might be a squeeze but very do-able. We did need to contact the property owner over a very minor issue to do with using the facilities at Retallack - they we back to us within a couple of hours and made the issue 'go away', so service and communication was also excellent. The property is ideal for the North Coast of Cornwall, Padstow or Wadebridge is 10 mins in the car, Newquay is 20/25 mins away. There is a small Tesco in Padstow, Tesco superstore in Wadebridge and large Morrisons in Newquay - so the area is well catered for if you want to self cater rather than eat out every evening. Port Issac is worth a mooch not much there however it is very petty - but be warned, it's busy! Perranporth is a stunning beach which goes on for miles, great of you've got a dog and lots of lovely little cafe's to grab a coffee and cake. Tintagel is a very pretty little area with a lovely cliff walk and lots of places to eat, once again it was busy but easy parking and no queues for food etc. If you don't mind an our in teh car then head towards the South Coast, Mullion Harbor is beautify with a lovely little tea room, Gunwollow Church cove is worth a visit, Lizard Point is also very nice with a great cliff walk from Lizard Point to Kynance Cove then a walk back through farmland to the Lizard car park. In summary an excellent property, appointed with everything you could need for a holiday and ideally placed for exploring Cornwall - would happily recommend it and would visit again.

We've stayed here many times over the years but the investment in the new decking and flooring is a real improvement.

Only disappointment was the limited access to the swimming pool but owing to Covid that's understandable.

Good value for money and location and well supplied.

Double bed misleading as it is a double matress on a single bottom bunk bed ! This was my main issue as one of the photos of the single twin room downstairs looked like it was the double and a single in the room. I feel very strongly that you cannot market this property as a double bed and a king size bed.

We know Retallack very well having stayed in the past.

This was our first time in a privately owned property and we couldn’t have been happier. A lovely spacious property as described with everything you could need on your stay. Very clean and plenty of outdoor space and privacy as it is in a corner plot.

The Lodge is well located taking into consideration the closeness of lodges on the site and quiet after construction has finished for the day 2. WiFi was the biggest issue - not having it directly connected to the Lodge and having to rely on the resort WiFi - you need to make this clear in the advert as families with children will face the same grief that I did on the first night and a large bill for data as well 3. The first night there we had water coming through one of the light fittings in the bunk bed room, clearly not the first time it had happened. Gene came out and resolved the issue, with the promise that a plumber would come on the Monday - we never saw the plumber. Room was damp and we ended up buying one of those container for damp conditions, ended up full of water 4. The original listing showed TV is a couple of the bedrooms and your current listing says that there is a TV in the twinned bedded room - there were no TV's 5. Some of the simple things like hooks on the back of doors to hang damp towels 6. The single room upstairs needs more than a bedside table and thought needs to be given as to whether it is actually suitable as a bedroom. 7. The upstairs balcony, which did some great views, had a birds nest with the resulting mess all over the balcony 8. The decking downstairs is rotting and my son chair leg went through it 9. There should have been some warning given about the construction traffic at the back of the lodge - it starts at 7am. It covered the cars with dust and on the last night there we had no water as they cut through the main pipe. Was resolved after a couple of hours
