Clematis House

We had an absolutely fantastic few nights at Clematis house.

The eclectic decoration is lovely and the house itself is just gorgeous and a perfect base for exploring the area. The only comment I would make is that some.of the kitchen equipment hadn't been cleaned properly from the previous guests, which was a little disappointing. But apart from that everything was great.

We had a lovely stay in your house, and really appreciated the beautiful decor, the wonderful space, and the very comfortable beds!

My two grandchildren had fun with the dressing up clothes, and enjoyed the games and the piano. The location, close to so many lovely beaches and the Eden Project is perfect. The only thing which would have made things easier would be instructions for the ovens!

Amazing decor, good facilities although we had trouble with the Qooker tap in the kitchen this was sorted by providing a kettle which was fine for us.

Occasionally the heating wasn't adequate but as we were all adults we could cope. It would be good for guests to have a Welcome Book, with instructions for the ovens but we managed it eventually. It's a beautiful house that we all enjoyed, especially having all 4 bedrooms with en suite facilities. Would probably book again.

This is obviously an old cottage that I would describe as " quirky".

There were up to eight of us at various times, plus a toddler, and it never felt cramped. This cottage is clearly someone's home and not a rental per se. And, it is all the better for it. We stayed late October in the drizzle. We enjoy autumn in Cornwall. The cottage has a fire which we used everyday. The initial problem of a lack of firewood was overcome by a phone call to Dave " the house Elf " who delivered five sacks within an hour. The cottage is well furnished. There were stairgates on both staircases which was a godsend with a two year old. The bedrooms were roomy, all had en suites albeit one was missing a shower. This isn't a problem due to the other showers available but the cottage should then be advertised as having three, not four showers. It would be helpful if there was a guide showing how to work electronic appliances etc., and places of interest, places to eat etc. There is parking for four cars which is essential in an area of restricted parking, and an enclosed garden for the dogs. There is a pub - ring o bells - about 200 yards from the cottage which serves very nice food. We ate there twice in a week and it was busy but not overly so. For me and my family this was an ideal base to explore Cornwall. Very nice cottage.

Not a good start to the holiday.

The two e-mails from Sykes 28/7/25 and 31/8/25 stated the wrong key code. So when we arrived on a rainy Sunday afternoon we couldn’t access the house. We phoned the owner 14 times ( in between showers of heavy rain) left voicemails and an SMS message and had no reply. The phone rang initially but after two more calls to try and locate the owner it went to ‘line busy’. We tried for over 45 minutes to get hold of someone. We called the second number an equal number of times and finally got through to the cleaner, to be asked why we we calling her! She gave us the key code number and said that it had been changed over a year previously and yet my e-mails still stated the old key code ( can been shown as proof). We never heard from the owner. ! I booked the place a year ago and so hadn’t seen the recent reviews about the shower ( still not working) or been informed about this, nor had I been informed about a welcome package that was supposed to be sent to me by e-mail with instruction manuals about how to use the cooker and microwave (never received). The were no manuals at the house( surely a health and safety issue.?. A sign by the door stated that any issues with the house to phone ‘Dave’ -but the mobile number had been scribbled out so there was no means of calling anyone, if I did have any problems. The first night I pulled back the quilt to find dried blood on the cover. I don’t believe that the cover nor sheets had been changed since the last visitor. I collected recycling but had no instructions on what to do with this so it ended up in the main bin. Unfortunately the lovely decor of the rooms, which was the main reason for booking this property, was overshadowed by the issues we experienced and the lack of reply from the owner gave the impression that they really don’t care.

We all loved Clematis House.

It was very comfortable, the bedrooms were a good size and the living room was cosy. Our granddaughter enjoyed playing with the toys in the play room and there is a comfy sofa for the adults to sit down on too. The garden was lovely, and we were happy to sit in the sun and the dog was enjoying chasing after her toys. Cottage was in a good position for us and we used it as a base to explore Cornwall, and the high street had a shop and takeaways for dinners in the evening. We would happily go back there

The condition of the property very much reflected in how old the property is.

It is very large old house that must be a maintenance nightmare. Some aspects were a bit tired bordering on shabby. The themed quirky decor was nice and the property was very spacious apart from the kitchen that was small if you are catering for 8 guests and lacked storage space for consumeables, you just have to be creative. The bedrooms were again very spacious and each had their own ensuite that is unusual. The shower leaked in one of the bedrooms that was annoying as the problem appears in a previous review. The dining area was pleasant but had a bench on one side rather than proper seats that was slightly disappointing. The main lounge was very spacious and nicely furnished. The garden furniture was a little shabby and the garden unfortunately did not get any sun in the evening, obviously not the owners fault but worth mentioning if like us you like having a bbq after busy day out. Only real criticism is the lack of tumble dryer that would be useful after rinsing swimming gear and towels at end of day on beach. There was space in utility area that was taken up by old dishwasher. There was a dehumidifier that we used overnight that just about couped. The local shops were very close with a Chinese takeaway and a fish and chip shop only a very short walk away. Overall we were pleased with the property that was offered at a competitive price.

A bit disappointed.

House/ garden a bit shabby, cooker didn't work. Owner knew, but couldn't rectify during stay. £50 refunded. 3 bedrooms lovely but 4th was not so good. Leaking shower. No TV in lounge- we relocated one from playroom. I'd take your own garden chairs. Local pub doesn't always serve food. Some nice little shops. No instructions for appliances. No welcome pack. Lacks TLC perhaps. Had much better via Sykes in previous years.

Great property, artistically decorated with lovely comfortable beds.

We were really happy with the overall experience especially being our son’s first Christmas with the family.

Very comfortable and stylishly decorated property.

The only very minor feedback gripes we have is that there were just two firefighters, three dishwasher tablets, an empty bottle of washing up liquid, and several empty or missing liquid soap bottles in the bathrooms, all of which meant a trip to the local shop. The downstairs central heating radiators didn’t seem to be working very well and as a previous reviewer mentioned it would be useful to have better instructions about the house on arrival. None of these points really detracted from our stay, however, which we all thoroughly enjoyed.

Clematis House really did tick all the boxes.

It is spacious, well thought out and we especially loved all the unusual details; decor, circus room / snug - brilliant idea. Really well equipped, comfortable and scrupulously clean. The location is brilliant too. Very short walking distance to the local pub and shop. Location wise is is also ideal easy access to the A30, close to popular beaches. We visited Padstow, Porthleven, Falmouth and Lands End which all within easy reach. Loved it!!

We had a lovely time at Clematis House and it was a great jumping off point for covering the south west coast path from Port Issac to Perranporth.

Really close to excellent beaches, Bodmin Moor and other places of interest. There is a CoOp supermarket a short walk from the property and the enclosed garden was ideal for our two dogs. Can also recommend The Ring O Bells pub for a good quality pub meal with super friendly staff.

Just an absolutely amazing home.

Beautiful property in a lovely setting.

The local community were very friendly and welcoming. The house really is superb and for a very reasonable price. Dave was very helpful and a lovely person. If I could make one suggestion, I think a little instruction book showing how to work oven, microwave and heating etc would be very useful.
