The most perfect place to stay, the house was so comfortable and homely to use as a base for Padstow, st columb local events and amazing beaches

An absolutely fabulous stay at The Old Smithy.

We have stayed in numerous similar sized properties over the years, but this has been our favourite. We were a family of four, two adults and two older teens and everything was perfect for us. The cottage was exceptionally clean upon arrival and smelled fresh for the duration. Beds were really comfy. Cottage decorated simply, but tastefully and beautifully throughout. Kitchen had everything needed and more! Also, great location, close to several brilliant beaches and in a cute little village with some useful shops, cafe and pubs a hop, skip and a jump away. Location very quiet and peaceful however. We will definitely return here and would wholeheartedly recommend.

Very close to neighbours but we would return. Easy access to main roads to visit anywhere.

I first stayed in st Columb major when I was 5 years old, 53 years later we still visit cornwall on an annual basis, we absolutely love this part of the world.

The cottage itself is quaint and in a very quiet area of St Columb. Unfortunately, there was No welcome pack on arrival - we've stayed in many cottages in cornwall and this is the first time we've never received a welcome pack which is slightly disappointing especially after travelling seven hours. Wine cooler didnt work, it actually warmed the wine! Under unit lighting didnt work. Some cutlery was dirty in the cutlery drawer. Patio area was untidy so much so my husband swept it, then had to clean patio set before we could use it. We watered the plants daily as requested. Becareful of the steps leading from patio doors, these can be a bit tricky if you have mobility issues, my elderly father had to grab hold of a garden chair to steady himself when stepping down to sit outside. The bath towels were damp when we arrived so had to be hung to dry. Hand soap was provided in both bathrooms but I always take my own so didn't use them however, its a nice touch. Also provided was a dishcloth , a few washing tablets, some washing up liquid. and tea towel, again I didnt use any of these as I take my own. Cottage was very spacious especially bedrooms. Beds comfortable however, the week we stayed (June) weather was extremely hot, I would recommend a couple of fans for the bedrooms, there was no air whatsoeve which made it unbearable for sleeping. Sitting out on patio felt like we were a bit on show with the neighbours but also felt we were intruding on the neighbours privacy, The kitchen was well equipped although we didnt use the appliances as we ate out most days/evenings. There were dvds, books and a few games provided. The information book needs updating, the wifi code was incorrect, the correct code is attached to the back of the wifi box. The courtyard was very quiet and was lovely to listen to bird song every evening and early morning. The cottage itself was pleasant enough and location was great for exploring. We visited Looe, Polperro, Falmouth, Newquay, St Austell (Par market) Mawgan porth, perranporth beaches. We had a lovely time in St Columb major, the village itself is quaint and has a well stocked Co Op however this can be a little expensive but there is a morrisons and aldi nearby in newquay. All in all we did enjoy our time here and returning to st columb brought back many childhood memories.

This was our 2nd holiday at the Old Smithy, it’s a lovely place to stay,close to all the beaches & towns that we like to visit.

There’s plenty of space for 4 adults. Comfortable beds, great showers and a fully equipped kitchen made it a pleasure to return to after our days out. This time we took our new pup with us as it’s a dog friendly cottage. The Old Smithy is open plan and has no stair gate. As dogs are not allowed upstairs this may be a problem if your dog is used to sleeping near you. Ours sleeps downstairs and he was a really good boy and enjoyed his 1st holiday!

The Old Smithy is a fabulous place which we have stayed at twice now.

We will be certain to return, even though we sadly lost our dog whilst on holiday this time. As a family we really feel the cottage is a home from home and we are quite sure our dog loved it too! It is clean, warm, comfortable and has a lovely feel to it. Its great to have the WiFi and the parking space and we will definitely be returning.

We had a lovely few days at The Old Smithy during very wet weather.

The cottage is great with everything you could need. If you like to cook, the kitchen is incredibly well kitted out. There's a good shower. The double bed has a soft mattress. The Coop, butchers, bakery and pubs are all a very short walk away. We found this a good spot from which to jump on the main roads and explore. I would totally go back.

Great find!

a lovely spacious cottage all you needed plenty of kitchen utensils including a couple of dishwasher tablets the mini supermarket (coop) is over the rd a fabulous bakery and butchers too. It's around 15 mins to a beach 10 mins to the airport. Truro is approx 40 mins we used the park and ride on route I would recommend as it's a busy city. The cottage has it's heating gauge near the front door its a warm cottage it holds it's heat so it doesn't need to be left on high we reduced it to 14 and it was still comfortable I turned it up in the evening for a few hours. There's cobbles outside that became slippery due to the berry's from the trees, take care if your awear it's fine. There's also a draw with dvds, books, maps, and jigsaw. I have landrover the entrance was narrow it's a sharp turn in from the rd take it steady overall I would highly recommend this venue The Hallams

We found the Old Smithy to be a lovely comfortable and well appointed base for our Cornish week away.

All that you may require for your stay us provided. A wonderful base for exploring north Cornwall and beyond.

Gorgeous property, great area, fabulous village with everything you need.

Ring o Bells pub does outstanding food. We come every year at least once a year.

Clean, comfortable, quiet and central to all the tourist hotspots without being on the main roads with all the traffic. We had a very good, relaxing holiday.

Lovely cottage in a really nice village close to Newquay and Padstow.

Great space outside too for our dog. Very convenient having 2 parking spaces. Loved it here. Only small issue is the mattress on the double bed. It is quite lumpy and did effect our sleep. Apart from that fabulous and would definitely stay again

A well appointed cottage, very comfortable & extremely clean, a good position for visiting many areas the Ring O Bells pub a 2 mins walk offers excellent food which is restaurant standard really & staff very friendly, the private parking at the cottage is excellent

We had a lovely week here.

Cottage was comfy, clean and nicely decorated. Well equipped too. The downstairs windows are straight onto a driveway and parking area so we did feel like we had to keep curtains shut for privacy at times. Also the internet connection was pretty slow and the tv struggled as a result. Otherwise we really enjoyed our stay!

The Old Smithy is one of the best cottages we've rented.

Very clean, very comfortable and especially having a Christmas tree and decorations. A very thoughtful layout with everything you would need also parking!!

Very comfortable and clean. Facilities were great and plenty of room for 4 adults. We were visiting family in St. Columb Major, so very handy. Beach only 5 min drive away, and only 7 miles from Newquay. We will definitely book again. Thanks.

The cottage was absolutely immaculate.

It had everything we needed and extremely comfy. A perfect spot to visit Padstow, the surrounding area and visit lots the beaches. I would highly recommend The Old Smithy.

Lovely property in great location for exploring north and south coasts.

Access into and particularly out of the driveway off Union Hill is bordering on dangerous on account of virtually zero visibility of traffic on North Street/Broad Street. It would be worth exploring whether signage and mirrors (opposite the access) could be installed.

This is our second stay at The Old Amirhy.

It’s a well situated and delightful cottage. It has everything you need for your holiday stay. It’s in a perfect position to explore all areas of Cornwall and there’s a shop and pub nearby. It’s also pet friendly which is a double bonus for us.

What a gem of a cottage !

It was spotless, everything you wanted and more. Location was great for exploring Cornwall. Would highly recommend the Ring o bells restaurant in the village, served delicious food, staff were very welcoming and dog friendly.

The Old Smithy was a super place to stay.

Comfortable, clean and extremely well equipped, it exceeded our expectations. Its location is perfect for exploring Cornwall and we managed to see everything we wanted with only a little over an hour drive to anywhere.

Proximity to local amenities was also fabulous. Cottage had everything we needed for a great stay. Immaculately clean, warm and cosy for when the weather isn’t at its best. I have no negative feedback to give. The owners were so kind and helpful which set us up for a brilliant week.

Beautiful cottage, fabulous local amenities.

The Old thing we would have changed would be the mattress in king-size bedroom, too soft,but this is personal taste. Highly recommended. We have stayed 3 times so far and have already booked for next year.

4 of us stayed, 2 of us didn't mind the 13.

5 tog quilt, but 2 of us found the 10.5 tog on the single beds too warm for this time of year. However we thought the property was lovely and very well situated.

Lovely house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

Parking ok if you have a smaller car as the entryway into the property was very narrow. Convenient location for shops, pubs etc and good location for exploring cornwall.

It’s our first time staying at the old smithy and we absolutely loved it.

The property is as lovely as it looks in the photos and the beds are super comfy. We loved staying here and the location is ideal if you’re wanting to visit Newquay, padstow and perranporth as all less than 30 min drive away. We can’t wait to book again!

The Old Smithy is the perfect home from home holiday cottage.

It had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and trouble free. Its location is perfect for exploring the rest of Cornwall. The added bonus is that it is a pet friendly holiday home and has allocated parking. Perfect stay in a perfect home. Would definitely like to return.

Fantastic property!

A great little dog friendly base to explore Cornwall from. We absolutely loved our stay although the weather wasn’t brilliant, the only thing we would have liked is to have we could been able to turn the heating up a little as there were a couple of days we all came back drenched and couldn’t get warm. The side door could also do with a new lock as it is a bit fiddly to get into.

Lovely place to stay.

Very well equipped and with good parking. A lot of thought has gone into making the cottage very comfortable for holidaymakers. It is a good base for visiting this part of Cornwall. We are definitely thinking of returning! Many thanks Wendy and Kevin Taylor

Welcoming, comfortable and well equipped, this cottage was conveniently located to enable us to explore the best of the local area with ease.

Th space worked well for our family of four and included private off street parking - something of a rarity in this neck of the woods. Columb St Major is a small and quiet town, with just enough shops and services but not so much that it felt ‘touristy’. We did not notice any unwanted noise from the nearby airport and only the hum of the A30 if the wind was blowing in ‘that’ direction. I recommend this accommodation and will definitely stay here again.

The house surpassed our expectations. It had a nice layout and lovely bedrooms with comfy beds. The showers were also great! We would recommend it and will hopefully stay again.

The property was comfortably furnished, very clean and well-equipped.

Although small the village in which the property is situated is well-served by an amazing bakery, butchers, Co-Op, fish and chip shop and the Ring O'Bells pub. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property - great location for visiting lots of different locations too.

The Old Smithy is exactly how it is described and pictured.

Extremely clean, thoughtfully decorated and with all you should need for an enjoyable stay. The location is perfect for visiting all of Cornwall, nothing is too much of a drive. We would definitely stay here again!

Initially difficult to find the property in the village but was well worth the wait .

This accommodation is of the highest standard offering everything you need for a perfect stay. Was exactly as advertised and a great location to explore Cornwall. Will definitely stay again in the future.

The information pack in the cottage could do with being a little more in depth - a few more recommendations of places to visit and places to eat and drink would be useful.

It was immaculately clean and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The cottage was situated in a lovely village which had everything we needed within walking distance. We are looking to return again in the Autumn.

A nice cosy and comfortable cottage close to town amenities and not too far from the coast.

It was ideal for the two of us plus our dog. Would definitely recommend it for a couple or couple with two children. St Columb is an interesting place with many fine buildings, but seems to be in a bit of a time warp which we found quite charming. The Shrove Tuesday Hurling contest was bit of a shock but all done in good humour!

This is a beautiful, spotlessly clean property in a great location for exploring Cornwall — I would definitely return!

Can't recommend this cottage enough.

It's located at the back of the main street, down a short driveway and into a large cobbled parking area, therefore very quiet. From the minute we walked through the front door, it felt cosy and welcoming. The interior was immaculate, tastefully decorated and very stylish and comfortable, with everything you could possibly need and much, much more. There was even a wine fridge which sadly, wasn't working during our stay but there was plenty of room in the fridge anyway. The beds were really comfortable and the twin beds had the luxury of double duvets so there was no fighting to keep the duvet on the bed at night. The bathrooms were well-fitted and the showers powerful and hot. We loved the little patio garden but sadly the weather meant we didn't get a chance to use it. Locationwise, it was in the middle of everywhere we wanted to visit without having to travel any great distance. The cottage is just 2 minutes walk to the Ring O' Bells pub which does great meals (you do have to book) and the fish and chip shop is next door to the pub. There is a well-stocked Co-op just 2 minutes in the opposite direction, with well-organised traffic light system for social distancing. The cottage is a little gem which we'd love to rent next time we visit Cornwall.

Immaculate, newly painted and very well equipped cottage.

Pretty garden pots. We are never disappointed here. Cosy place to shelter from wet and windy weather. Managed to take advantage of outdoor table and chairs a couple of times which would be lovely in the sun.

The Old Smithy is a lovely property which has been tastefully decorated and fitted with quality fittings.

It is spotlessly clean with an abundance of cleaning products in the cupboard. The court yard seating area enjoys full sun, Showers are excellent, bed is comfy. The location is excellent both for major roads and having a good pub and supermarket 2 minutes away was perfect, there is also a lovely walk to the sea. We loved our week there and think its one of the best cottages we have stayed in and will defiantly book again.

We have rented The Old Smithy on 4 occasions and really love it.

It is very comfortable, conveniently situated with the advantage of designated car parking space. Very clean and homely, especially with Christmas tree.

I knew from the pictures that we had chosen a lovely old fashioned house but the pictures really did not do The Old Smithy, justice. We had the best time and it was a home from home experience.

Has everything you need. The contact with the owner I had was great, very helpful. Nice & quite. Neighbours to the front & to the side are lovely people. Would recommend & would return. Handy CO OP shop 100 metres away, as is the pub(ring of bells).

I booked this break away for my partners 40th birthday and all I can say for The Old Smithy is WOW.

It is absolutely gorgeous and has everything you need and more proper home from home. The little village is perfect and has everything you need, we was there for the Christmas light switch one which was lovely. It makes a perfect base to travel to see the sights as you are pretty central to most places, we went to newquay, padstow and st.ives. I cannot recommend The Old Smithy enough.

We had a lovely week at the Old Smithy.

It was a beautiful place, decorated to a very high standard. It had all the bits and pieces you would need for a normal stay. The owners were very helpful on our arrival day helping us locate the cottage. It was an excellent base to explore Cornwall.

THE Old Smithy is a beautifully renovated and very well designed cottage with everything you could wish for.

It has a small flower laden patio which catches the sun. The cottage is in the middle of the interesting little town of St Columb Major with lovely beaches about 15 minutes away.

It is a lovely warm, comfortable, well equipped cottage.

It's location is perfect for seeing north and south Cornwall. This was our second visit to the Old Smithy and we will be booking it again in the future.

We had a lovely stay at The Old Smithy.

We were there just as the weather cooled down towards the end of August which was a little frustrating but The Old Smithy was a very comfortable and relaxing base to come back to. It is very well equipped and was really like a home from home. The Co-op was conveniently close by too and with the lovely kitchen we were happy to cook and eat in a few nights. I managed to leave a few items behind when we left and the owner kindly contacted me and posted them to us which was much appreciated. A very enjoyable holiday.

Cottage exactly as described on the listing and on other reviews, fantastic.

Spotlessly clean, very well appointed enjoyed by all including our little dog. Very quiet lane beyond the church for early moring walkies. Central location for supermarket and fanatastic fish & chips from round the corner. We loved Porthcotan Bay only a 20minute drive away.

Everything you could need for your holiday. Very handy supermarket just around the corner. Easy to get onto A39 /A30. Short journey to the beautiful Watergate Bay

Lovely property, so convenient for St Columb town.

This was our second visit, so obviously a favourite and would recommend to anyone needing accommodation for four people in the area.

The owner of the property was very helpful and considerate.

The property was beautifully appointed with good quality furnishings and was spotless despite being dog friendly which was a huge factor for us.

The whole process using Sykes was easy.

The cottage when we arrived was fabulous, clean and tidy with excellent facilities which the pictures don't do justice to. The cottage was in a central location so it was easy to walk to the local shops and pub.
