“Absolute Gem of a Cottage, clean, comfortable, home from home.”

Very well presented, it was juts a pity we didn't get chance to spend more time there, but Cornwall is such an amazing place to explore. Hosts were brilliant, nothing too much trouble. Added bonus for us was the wildlife, Bird Feeders visible from the Wisteria framed Kitchen window, attracting Robins, Finches, Tits, Woodpeckers and a Jay, as well as the ubiquitous Pigeon....

“Lower Tamsquite far exceeded our expectations.”

As you drive through the cottage gate tranquillity greets you followed by a spotlessly clean and well maintained property. The kitchen is so well equipped and has every utensil you could possibly need to prepare, cook and serve meals. The enclosed large garden attracts so many different types of birds which were amazing to watch on the bird feeders. There is a field attached to the property that is ideal for a dog to explore. National Trust and other places of historic interest are close by as well as towns to explore. We shall definitely be returning and are already checking availability dates. “Booked in for a week at Lower Tamsquite and it's such a beautiful property with everything catered for.”

Appreciated the modern bathrooms which include a walk in shower along with the luxury thick fluffy bath towels and Baylis and Harding hand soap. There were plenty of glasses/crockery/cutlery provided so we didn't have to put the dishwasher more than necessary to enable us to have clean equipment. Our dog appreciated the fully enclosed and well looked after garden which is much bigger than she's used to. There is also a field next to the property which your dog can run in. The property is tucked away so lovely and quiet - it's a pleasure just to hear and watch the birds in the garden. Our hosts Val and Ken were very friendly and accommodating - checking in on us a couple of times to make sure everything was OK. Praise to them both for their managing of the property and equipment provided - if only all Sykes properties were of this standard - cannot recommended highly enough.

“It was a fantastic stay!”

The owners were so welcoming and engaging that we felt right at home from the start. The house itself was spacious, with well-laid-out rooms and a kitchen that had all we needed. The beds were super comfortable, ensuring a great night’s sleep. We loved the peaceful, tucked-away location, yet it was easy to reach both the north and south coasts of Cornwall. The outdoor space, from the garden to the attached field, was perfect for relaxing. Plus, the house stayed wonderfully warm thanks to great heating. Overall, it’s a peaceful gem we’d happily return to.

“Last week we had the most wonderful stay at ‘Lower Tamsquite’ cottage.”

From the first 30mins we knew we’d found a gem as the cottage was beautiful and the first place I’ve ever been where we can truly say it was spotless! It was cosy, but lots of space with different areas to relax. There was so many birds feeding in full view in the middle of the garden and a lovely wrap around garden for the dog to sniff and explore. The grass was kept short, with hard slabs and driveway to way around so didn’t find it muddy in a crazy rainy week. The bonus was the field next door for the dog to burn some energy, we didn’t use it much as we went on long walks every day. I can imagine that in the summer it would be used more. There’s a bathroom and shower room newly refurbished downstairs that are electric and a nice modern addition to the cottage feel. Lots of storage and seating everywhere and we really made good use of the fire. Although we know the wider area well it’s the first time staying so close to Bodmin and everything was at an arms reach. Felt like we could drive 30/45 mins to everything we wanted. Beach and coastal walks, local towns, local attractions (like Bodmin Jail and leisure centre). It’s short distance from all food shop chains so lots of delivery options and easy to get food in when you’re out and about exploring. Val gave us a lovely friendly welcome when we got there and a nice check in before we left but otherwise left us to it and it really did feel like a home from home. We’re already working out when to visit again!

“This accomodation is such a pretty building set within lovely garden areas and winding drive with countryside views and surrounding walks.”

The owners Val and Ken are lovely people, really helpful, friendly and caring, they will and did go out of their way to accommodate our large family annual gathering this Boxing Day (2025). The property is well maintained and a cosy winter retreat if out of season, good heating and a warming log fire (with constant wood supplied). It has everything a family stay requires: lovely downstairs en suite for a smaller group or an additional 2 bedrooms upstairs. We loved all the wild birds who frequent the bird feeders. I'm sure Summer stays host even more delightful opportunities. We would like to return, and will v soon. Thank you for sharing your wonderful property Val & Ken and for all your consideration and kind extras!! Fabulous.

“Lovely spot , very clean and comfortable and fully equipped.”

Friendly host who popped round to make sure we had everything we needed. Only issue for us a bit of a walk to local village and further a field from local beaches than we realised. However if peace and quiet is what your looking for this is the place to be.

“John & I had a most wonderful stay in Lower Tamsquite cottage.”

It was in an idyllic setting, with a private garden, and a bird lovers delight. The owners had provided every home comfort, the furnishings were superb and we spent many happy hours watching the wildlife in such peaceful surroundings. “We have just returned from a week stay at lower Tamsquite.”

It was perfect, and had everything we could need for a home from home stay with our children. The kitchen is very well equipped, and a separate utility room was great! The bedrooms were very comfortable and having the separate studio would be great for a relative to stay for their own space. We loved spending time at the house during our stay, we were so lucky with the April weather we spent a lot of time in the lovely garden. Val and Ken are great hosts and made our stay so welcoming. Thank you for having us, we are looking forward to coming to stay again!

“Our 2nd visit to this beautiful cottage, even with 2 teenagers and our small dog there is plenty of room.”

We had a lovely warm welcome from the owner with thoughtful gestures of fresh milk for tea and some Cornish biscuits waiting for us. The cottage was spotlessly clean, and lovely and warm, and full of charm but with 2 modern bathrooms and beautiful kitchen with all the mod cons. There is the added bonus of a lovely wood burner in the lounge with plenty of wood on hand for cosy winter evenings in after a day sightseeing around the stunning picturesque villages dotted along the coastline. The garden is beautifully kept and it was very relaxing watching and listening to the variety of winter birds feeding from the bird feeder whilst sitting in the comfy conservatory. We can’t wait to return.

“Absolutely beautiful, cosy but spacious cottage with lovely friendly hosts (who live just down the road in case you need them).”

The cottage is spotlessly clean and really well equipped, they really have thought of everything, even the wood burner was set up ready to light in case of a chilly evening. Lower Tamsquite is off the beaten track and surrounded by woods and farmland but nicely positioned to visit all our favourite places on the north coast. We will definitely book again.

Nestled in the heavily wooded River Camel Valley is the pretty village of St Tudy in North Cornwall. Resting just over seven miles from the quaint fishing village of Port Isaac, and just a few miles from Bodmin Moor, St Tudy is a fantastic base for touring both the coast and countryside. St Tudy is home to a well-stocked village shop, a Post Office and a pub, St Tudy Inn, and lies just two miles from the start of the popular Camel Trail, a 17-mile cycle path following the river from Bodmin Moor down to Padstow. Surrounding attractions to visit include Tintagel Castle in the pretty coastal village of Tintagel, Pinetum Park and Pine Lodge Gardens, Lanhydrock House and Gardens, and Pencarrow House and Gardens.
