“Had to contact the property manager on arrival as house dirty and dusty!”

Toilet seat hanging off, cupboards dirty inside and out , cutlery draw had old bits of food in !dining table sticky. Fruit flies everywhere! Dead and live wood lice Spent the first 2 hours cleaning! Shower makes a screeching noise. Lots of windows are broken and do not open. Health and safety: hot tap in bathroom twisting around and no signage to say water is boiling! Fire blanket in the kitchen: brown with grease, no expiry date. Fire extinguishers in date. Photographs of evidence! Had the most awful stay at a Sykes cottage. This is not a 4 ticks!! Probably nice at one time but it’s as if management are relying on the spectacular views to take away from all of the faults! No visitors book. Positives: spectacular views, in a fantastic position, bed linens clean beds comfortable. Microwave oven clean. First time we have wanted to leave an accommodation early!

About the location

TINTAGEL

Camelford 5.9 miles; Wadebridge 13 miles.

Tintagel, home of the legendary King Arthur’s Castle, whose ruins dominate the cliffside just outside the village, is a popular but not overcrowded tourist destination. The surrounding area is dominated by the sea, rocky coves and stunning scenery. Several beaches, including nearby Trebarwith Strand and Bossiney Cove, are within easy reach and surfing is the main attraction for those who love the water. Tintagel has several pubs and restaurants and the Old Post Office (National Trust) is a must. For the energetic, the SW Coast Path passes through the village and in both directions it winds its way along the cliffs and down to the water’s edge through dramatic countryside. Head north along the path and in 2.5 miles is the beautiful village of Boscastle with its quaint quay and village pubs for refreshment. Further afield are the surfing meccas of Newquay and Bude, with their resort attractions, while the open spaces of Bodmin Moor, the Eden Project, Padstow, Camel Estuary and Port Isaac are all within a 40-minute drive.
