“This property may be cheap, but there is nothing cheerful about it.”
The bathroom was cold, damp and moldy. The bathroom floor was wet. The mattress felt as old as the cottage. Sykes’ treatment of our complaint was pathetic. They tried to claim that visible mold (which we took photos of) was ‘due to cleaning marks’. As a result, we will never use Sykes again. This cottage would be fine for a drunken weekend without a vehicle. That’s about it

We are sorry that you were unhappy with your stay with us. Chyancrowse is a
small one-bedroom bungalow on the same plot as a larger house, Chyandaunce
- the two properties can be booked together, sleeping up to 10 people.
Chyancrowse is not damp or mouldy, although the shower room may have been
cold because the heating element in the heated towel rail was awaiting
replacement, for which we apologise. We should have replaced that in
advance of your visit. The cottage itself had been heated in advance of
your stay, and our housekeeper had made it as cosy as possible for the week
before Christmas - apparently you ate the minced pies she had put out for
you. The cottage itself dates back to the 1800s, and its furnishings are
traditional rather than modern, but we can assure you that the mattress is
a very recent purchase. As to your complaints that there was no parking, we
do not advertise any parking on the premises for guests at Chyancrowse. The
parking is reserved for guests in the larger property, Chyandaunce. We want
to be clear that for guests staying in Chyancrowse there is limited parking
on the street outside, or elsewhere in the village. Some of our guests come
without a car but make use of the bus stop which is a 5 minute walk away to
explore the area - there is a bus to Saint Ives, for instance, which saves
the hassle of parking there. Unfortunately, the first we heard of your
complaints was a recorded message saying that you had already decided to
leave in a matter of hours, giving us no chance to resolve any issues. You
said in that recorded message that you would leave a terrible review unless
we gave you a full refund for the remaining five nights of your stay.
Again, unfortunately, that did not leave us any space to reach a
resolution. We are disappointed that you suggest people visit for a drunken
weekend - Chyandaunce and Chyancrowse are a family home where my father was
born and grew up. We hope that people will come here to enjoy the stunning
coastline that he loved.
