This is a lovely property in a good location for traveling around. Near to Watergate Bay beach which is stunning and clean with some great places to eat and have a coffee!. The barn itself is great but a little miss leading for us booking as a dog friendly place- which it is but we would of preferred to not book a place that has such an open garden leading to the road!. There are no fences or gates just a lovely garden that actually isn’t that dog friendly if your dog likes to jump into water- the pond is very large and full of fish. Luckily mind isn’t bothered about ponds... just a heads up here. There where also two roaming local dogs that use the grounds of the garden too, again isn’t ideal as they leave their poo behind too! This wasn’t picked up all week and it put us off using the patio furniture area. Also having the doors open to the barn on a warm evening lead the dog to keep coming inside. Again nothing major the dog was lovely but we didn’t expect this. The paddocks and Orchard is probably miss leading too. The bedroom had some doors leading to the terrace which couldn’t be opened due to the bees, that’s fair enough but again these are all the little things that make you choose from one property to another. Having said above it’s a lovely place and the owners were lovely. I hope this doesn’t put anyone off from booking as not my intention. A few tweaks here and there would make this place be 10/10 oh and also a sign outside near the entrance showing Lost Barn would be ideal!.

The property

With mystery, magic and drama, you will be spellbound by this stunning barn conversion.

Hidden in a beautiful corner of North Cornwall just three miles from the coast, this stylish Grade II Listed property sits within the grounds of the former landed Figg-Hoblyn estate.

A walk through the nearby woodland will reveal the ruins of the manor house, left to rack and ruin after a family dispute; in fact the heir to the estate has never been found after disappearing to America during the Second World War.

The sociable open plan living space spans the entire ground floor and provides the perfect place to catch up on the day's events or relax in front of a film.

Upstairs antique French furniture in the master bedroom contrasts with the contemporary whites of the second bedroom which caters for adults or children with the option of a super king size or twin beds.

High quality Vi-Spring mattresses and crisp white Egyptian cotton linens ensure a good night's sleep. The owners live in the adjoining barn and share the surrounding orchard and paddock.

The terrace beside the ornamental pond is simply out of this world but please keep an eye on little ones as the water is deep.

If you can drag yourselves away there are a dazzling array of sandy beaches to choose from within a short drive including Mawgan Porth, Fistral, Porth, and Holywell Bay.

Watergate Bay has become the Mecca for water sports and the Extreme Academy on the beach certainly lives up to its name.

The beach is also home a superb hotel with spa and Jamie Oliver's restaurant Fifteen which you will need to book in advance.

There is a good foodie pub about a mile away plus further fantastic food options within easy driving distance at Padstow, Truro, Newquay and Mawgan Porth.

For larger groups we also let the adjoining property The Hideaway (ref 1715) which sleeps 2.

About the location

MAWGAN PORTH

Watergate Bay 2 miles; Newquay 5 miles; Padstow 10 miles.

Nestled between Newquay and Padstow on the beautiful north Cornish coast, Mawgan Porth is a sheltered cove with golden sandy beach, great surf and plenty of caves and coastal footpath to explore. With little distraction from its golden sands, life here revolves around the beach. Laze in the summer sun, learn to ride the waves, or watch over stormy seas on a refreshing cliff top stroll. Mawgan Porth is also home to the fabulous adults-only Scarlet Hotel, which offers Spa treatments and facilities to non-residents - and nearby Watergate Bay is the setting for Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant, which sits in a fantastic location just above the beach. Mawgan Porth has a handful of shops, including a village store and deli, and a farm shop selling locally sourced meat, eggs, vegetables, bread and pasties, as well as tennis courts, a pitch and putt, and an 18-hole golf course overlooking the Atlantic.

Two pets welcome at £50 each per week. Short breaks taken at a minimum charge of £500.
