“The fire alarm in the entire block where the flat is situated had a fault so went off at 3AM one night and 2AM two nights later.”

Not ideal. Under the flat there is a nightclub which stays open until 4AM. The music can be clearly heard within the flat even when wearing ear plugs. The street below gets very noisy at kicking out time. There is a clock on the town hall directly opposite the single glazed bedroom windows which loudly chimes the hour (eleven chimes for eleven PM etc) every hour. All of this meant it was impossible to get any sleep in the flat. Which is such a shame, as the flat itself was clean, ...

All of this meant it was impossible to get any sleep in the flat. Which is such a shame, as the flat itself was clean, well kept, included lots of thoughtful touches and is situated in a very charming Cornish town. Plus the instructions and communication from Sykes Cottages has been faultless. I honestly can’t see how it is considered viable as a holiday rental. I guess I was unlucky with the faulty alarm and perhaps someone might rent it out who wants to commit to the Helston nightclub scene. But even then, they’d be woken up every hour by the chimes on the town clock. I can only assume the flat doesn’t get any repeat customers.
