The property

A characterful, stone-built cottage, originally a barn, situated within 7 acres of land that was once part of the historic Whiteford Estate, 1 mile from the village of Stoke Climsland and 3 miles from the market town of Callington.

The interior of this spacious property enjoys traditional features including exposed beams, oak flooring, and two wood-burning stoves, offering a charming base to come back to each evening.

This superb property comes with three well-presented bedrooms, comprising a king-size with an en-suite bathroom, and a king-size and a double with shared use of a Jack-and-Jill en-suite.

Look forward to preparing delicious meals in the stylish kitchen before gathering around the dining table to plan the days ahead.

After dinner, choose to unwind in either the sitting room, which features a wood-burning stove, the snug with its mini-library, or the garden room, which enjoys views of the walled outdoor area.

This peaceful, quiet retreat nevertheless enjoys easy access to main roads leading to the north and south coasts The property is available to adults only, and is not equipped with facilities for children.

Whiteford Cottages

Tucked away within the seven-acre grounds of beautiful walled gardens and parkland that originally formed part of the historic Georgian Whiteford estate, surrounded by Duchy of Cornwall fields and woodland, are these delightful stone-built cottages. The cottages introduce people seeking beauty and tranquillity to the pleasures of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the border between Cornwall and Devon. The interior of the cottages combines traditional charm with a sympathetic blend of stylish furnishings to ensure a delightful stay at any time of the year. The Bothy offers a small but well-equipped kitchen with an open-plan sitting and dining area. As the evening draws to a close, look forward to drifting off to sleep within the comfortable and charmingly furnished ground-floor bedroom, which boasts a double bed and leads into a modern and efficient wet room. The Groom's House offers a spacious living room, a snug, a garden room, a dining room, and a large, well-equipped kitchen, benefitting from all the essentials that the designated chef of the group will need to prepare home-cooked meals throughout a weekend or week-long break. At the end of the day, relax within one of the three comfortable and charmingly furnished bedrooms. Spend summer days and evenings within the private walled garden at the Bothy which offers over an acre of wildflower meadow with fruit trees and a covered gazebo, where you can idle away a warm evening enjoying the views and the wildlife with a refreshing drink in hand. At the Groom's House you can enjoy sunny days within the private walled garden, with a spacious lawn and patio area. If you can tear yourself away from this delightful base, venture to the nearby village of Stoke Climsland, which boasts a village shop, a weekly market, and the oldest continuously working post office in the country; visit the Duchy Agricultural College; sample the excellent pub cuisine at nearby St Dominic or Treburley; or explore towns such as Callington, Launceston, Saltash, or Liskeard, where you will be delighted by the selection of pubs, cafes and shops on offer. To keep you entertained whilst staying within the area, head to the south coast, where you can soak up the sun at Looe, or the dramatic north coast at Bude and Widemouth Bay, dipping into the sea to discover the fascinating marine life or tackle the famous Cornish waves. Within the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you will find miles of walks amid wooded valleys, with wildlife habitats to keep you company. Nearby is the National Trust property of Cotehele, with spectacular gardens, a fascinating Tudor manor house, and an excellent restaurant and shop; and Pentillie Castle, a 2000-acre estate on the bank of the Tamar River, offering not only a fine restaurant and lovely gardens, but interesting events throughout the summer. The Bothy and the Groom's House at Whiteford are superb bases for enjoying true peace and quiet in rural surroundings, and exploring this wonderful corner of Cornwall.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
