“This was our second stay and we loved it as much as the first time.”

The cottage and garden are wonderful. There is so much space, with excellent facilities for a home from home experience. Liz couldn't be a better host, although we didn't meet in person, we did exchange a few text messages. The welcome pack is very helpful and tasty. Whiteford is an excellent location with perfect peace but within easy drive of many attractions and supermarkets. Highly recommend Bodmin Moor to see the neolithic site, with lunch/dinner in the Crows Nest 17th century inn, or ...

We didn't want to leave and would love to live here.

“We stayed during May for a last minute break.”

This was the 3rd time we have stayed at The Grooms House over the past couple of years and are booked to visit again late this Summer. This property has everything you need for a thoroughly enjoyable break. We visit as a couple and along with the space, it gives you everything you need for a perfect holiday with no intrusion and the feeling of being in the beautiful countryside. The property as you will see from the pictures is high end for a holiday home. The garden is private, well kept and the sound of nature gives the feeling of "getting away from it all". The welcome pack (& info) is excellent and thoughtful like all of the other considerations throughout the house. Kitchen appliances are excellent and the WIFI is high speed. Sadly, but conveniently it allows us to log in to work if we need to... The owner of this property really has given attention to detail which gives a sense that your stay is important. Its always clean and everything works.. The location is great for peace & quiet after a long day out exploring this part of Cornwall. From The Grooms House you are only a short distance away from an abundance of great places to visit; Cothele, Gothlia Falls, Lydford Gorge and further such as Looe (up to 40 mins), Polperro, Tintagel, St Nectans Glen, Boscastle, Bude, Bodmin, The Camel Trail.. Padstow, Fowey etc.. such a wide choice of places. If you want a fantastic break, this is where you should stay.

! The pictures are nothing compared to the real thing!! We spent the evenings by the fire drinking wine and talking... watching a little TV... Beautiful views of the countryside! A little hamper was waiting for us with the most delicious biscuits and Cornish fudge sweets... Will definitely try and go back... 100%

“This is one of the nicest properties we have stayed in .”

It was obviously once was someone’s home , the high quality appliances and decor reflect this .The beds were very clean and comfortable. It is ideally situated in a quiet and peaceful valley to explore North and South Cornwall. The welcome pack was superb . The only suggestions I can make are that the towels provided had seen better days and need to be bigger and heated towel rails put in the bathrooms as there is little space to dry them.Also a toilet seat that actually fits the toilet in the utility room would have been nice . These are only suggestions, I would happily return and would be quite happy to live there .

“The saying "You could hear a pin drop" immediately comes to mind about Grooms House, oh sorry, there was that time when the Crows were mobbing a Buzzard!”

!! If you crave peace and quiet in a glorious setting this is the place. Set down a country lane with its own postcode this very comfortable property contains everything you need, enough crockery and utensils to cater for a small wedding, you can build up your step count just moving around the spacious kitchen which also has every appliance you need. If you are into art and literature then find one of the many, and I mean many, rooms, armchairs, setees, to have a good read and look at the prints. The garden room is a delight to catch the last rays of sunshine with a glass of something or even outside for a touch of the old alfresco. At the end of the day climb the stairs and drop into a lovely hot bath or shower and then to bed where you will be swallowed up by a relaxing, comfy matress. Downstairs loo in the utility room is a godsend. The owners left the best welcome basket and note we have ever seen. One little thing, there are three very large steps up from the lounge and dining room into the kitchen, for those with dodgy knees its a step at a time but there are handrails. Thouroughly recommended, but why only 4 stars, surely a five?? This property moves up to the top of cottages we have stayed in.

“Lovely place to stay in our first visit to Cornwall.”

The property is in a beautiful, peaceful, rural location with a good garden and ample parking. Inside it is attractive and finished to a high standard. There are lots of positives. The kitchen is spacious and very well kitted out with everything you could possibly need, as is the utility room. There is a wide selection of DVDs and books. Also, maps of the area and lots of information provided in the guest pack. A couple of things could be better. The shower in the en-suite had variable pressure and the pump was noisy. Also, the toilet flush in the other bathroom was not strong. Before deciding to book note that all three double bedrooms are upstairs. Also, from the living/reception room to all other areas of the property there are three stone steps up to navigate. The property is really lovely - suited to adults with no major mobility issues.

“We had a wonderful break at the Groom's House.”

We used it as a base to visit other places for walks and day visits. A car is essential for the trip. The drive up to Kit Hill and the surrounding views were very impressive. Our hosts were kind and helpful. The house itself is stunning and perhaps better suited for adults than a young family. Overall it was a wonderful trip.

“The Groom's House far exceeded our expectations.”

The house and walled garden nestled in quiet countryside are both beautiful and interesting and they have so many different spaces within to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The view towards Dartmoor from the main bedroom is beautiful especially at sunrise, the sound of buzzards calling can be heard nearby and we were lucky to see shooting stars in the clear sky at night. The north and south coasts of Cornwall are easily accessible from the house with many pretty harbours and beaches to visit and nearby Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor are to be explored.

“Just returned home after a week long holiday in The Groom’s Cottage, Cornwall.”

We were a family group of 5 adults and the cottage suited us perfectly. The cottage had pretty much everything we could possibly need for our stay. Really comfortable beds and a very quiet location ensured a wonderfully relaxing time. Loved having the large sociable kitchen which meant we could all be involved in preparing meals. Also great having several seating areas accommodated our individual needs. Even the wifi was really good. Outside, there is ample parking which suited us as we came together from different areas so had 3 cars. Lovely garden with garden furniture and a barbecue. A real treat to be able to sit out in the sun. It would have been tempting to spend all week in the cottage, but that would be shame because it’s ideally located to travel out to see the beautiful Cornish countryside, moors and both coasts. We had a really lovely week and would definitely recommend The Groom’s House as a great place to stay.

“There were a few issues but not enough to give only 4 stars.”

Shower in master bedroom wasn't great, also the wash basin was clogged with hairs which had to be cleaned out, and the connecting door to the jack and jill bathroom doesn't close. Only 2 laundry bags so one of us had to use black bags. Overall it's a beautiful property, with all you could need, there was even a small welcome hamper. I would recommend it.

“The house was just as advertised,it was clean, warm and comfortable, somewhere to look forward to returning to.”

The house was well equipped,the kitchen to be totally envious of. Two small gripes, firstly the sitting room was quite dark in the evening.There were plenty of lamps but due I suppose to the thickness of the walls,no wall lights. This resulted in it being impossible to read a book at night without using a torch! Our stay was in October, I presume not such an issue in Summer. The second issue was that there was no mention or pictures of the three large steps between the kitchen and the sitting room.These are hewn out of stone and are much bigger than normal steps,2 of our party have problems with their knees and did prove to be uncomfortable at times. There is no avoiding them, as the stairs to the bedrooms are accessed from the kitchen level. In fact all the different sitting areas are on different levels so visitors with mobility issues may find it an unexpected challenge. Those two niggles apart the house was exceptional. the beds and bedding of high quality and the decor a delight. Such a joy to have matching crockery rather than what looks like oddments from the owners cupboard and knives that match and are sharp. We had a wonderful week and is amongst the top houses we have stayed in

The property

A characterful, stone-built cottage, originally a barn, situated within 7 acres of land that was once part of the historic Whiteford Estate, 1 mile from the village of Stoke Climsland and 3 miles from the market town of Callington.

The interior of this spacious property enjoys traditional features including exposed beams, oak flooring, and two wood-burning stoves, offering a charming base to come back to each evening.

This superb property comes with three well-presented bedrooms, comprising a king-size with an en-suite bathroom, and a king-size and a double with shared use of a Jack-and-Jill en-suite.

Look forward to preparing delicious meals in the stylish kitchen before gathering around the dining table to plan the days ahead.

After dinner, choose to unwind in either the sitting room, which features a wood-burning stove, the snug with its mini-library, or the garden room, which enjoys views of the walled outdoor area.

Tavistock 9 miles; Launceston 11.5 miles; Plymouth 14.6 miles.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
