Comfortable.

Everything was there.Short walk to shops ,pubs & river.Other places to visit a few miles drive. Steep staircase not for the faint hearted !

Would have 5 stars but the garden is a big let down i'm afraid but i'd probably still return.

Warm on arrival with mince pies , tea , coffee , and milk in the fridge. Everything you need on the doorstep, with cut through alleys to explore down to the river Fowey. Also beautiful views from the cottage garden, would totally reccomend

This is the most delightful cottage.

Warm comfortable and well situated in the town. The welcome cream tea is a lovely touch. For anyone with mobility issues the stairs would be an issue as they are steep cottage stairs. Parking is available but sometimes has to be a short walk away. It has always been an issue in Lostwithiel but it is free. But a 5 Star cottage.

A perfect location in a delightful town for exploring Cornwall on foot and by rail and bus.

The cottage has everything you could want, a highlight being the log-burning stove. We've been going back every year for the last seven to eight years, which says it all.

We loved 13 Castle Hill and greatly enjoyed our stay there.

It is a magnificent cottage, very cosy and equipped with really everything you need for a relaxing stay. The owner does all he can to make you feel welcome. A lovely special feature is the little garden with an amazing view of Lostwithiel. If you are looking for a wonderful time in Cornwall, 13 Castle Hill in Lostwithiel is the place to go.

Cottage is small but the layout makes best use of the space and was perfectly comfortable in our case (we were three adults and a dog). It was also spotless on arrival and very well equipped. Lostwithiel is a lovely town - Co-op and pubs 5 mins walk away with a nice dog walk along the river. Highly recommended!

What a fabulous cottage.

We had a lovely cream tea left out for us when we arrived,lovely touch,much appreciated after a long journey. Cottage very clean & everything we needed for a great holiday in cornwall. We will be back when visiting Cornwall again.

If you plan to motor west, stay at John’s place, it’s the best!

Cornwall is beautiful, Lostwithiel is delightful and 13 Castle Hill is charming. We felt ‘at home’ immediately on arrival and throughout our stay. It’s just SO cosy! Lots of ‘places to visit’ recommendations for those sunny days and lots of books and games for those, hopefully rare, rainy days too. The 5 star reviews and appreciative comments in the visitors book are well deserved.

Excellent communication from the owner before we arrived.

Then upon arrival we were greeted with delicious scones, cream, jam and items to make tea or coffee. Very welcome after travelling, thank you! Crisp white sheets and towels were provided and the cottage was very clean. Full range of cooking utensils and cutlery, firewood, magazines, books, board games and a tv. Comfy seating and beds, drawers and hanging space for clothes provided. Also an iron, ironing board, microwave and dishwasher. The cottage is within walking distance of the small country town which included a train station, Co-op, pharmacy, museum and fish & chip shop. Lots of local walks and a short drive to the beach. I would love to stay here again :)

We booked this for a second stay as we loved the first time so much, and was just as great again.

The house has everything you need for a family of three, great little kitchen and good living room space. Lostwithiel is a lovely place in itself, and as a base for driving to the rest of Cornwall. Thoroughly recommended.

It was a lovely cottage very clean and a very well equipped kitchen.

There was no wardrobe in the main bedroom which might be a Problem for long stays. It was well positioned to visit both north and south coasts. We would definitely go again

An absolute fantastic property with lovely cottage charm which was situated in a fantastic location for us to do serval day trips around some parts of Cornwall.

We were pleasantly surprised with the lovely welcoming Cornish cream tea set out for us which was a really nice touch by the host. The cottage was clean and tidy and had a lovely bathroom and kitchen facilities. The main bedroom was lovely , we would suggest a better mattress on the main bed as we found it very springy which made it difficult to sleep on especially with some back issues I have, but that’s an easy an minor upgrade. We throughly enjoyed our stay and we definitely revisit when we come back to Cornwall. Highly recommend this cottage in a peaceful location with some pubs close by if you want to chill out after a long day of adventures in Cornwall. Thank you for a pleasant stay at your beautiful cottage.

A perfect cottage in a delightful small town, which has the advantage of being on the railway, so couldn’t be better for exploring Cornwall without a car.

There are also several good walks from Lostwithiel - to the Duchy Nursery and Restromel Castle, to St Winnow and Lerryn, to Lanlivery and to Fowey via Golant. We come back year after year.

We're not absolutely sure this site is working right now (or maybe we don't know how to use it properly, sorry!

So we'll write down what we think: 13 Castle Hill is an absolutely marvellous cottage, it has obviously been furnished with love and care and the owner does all he can to make you feel comfy. We'll definitely book it again (this year was our fifth time there) and it deserves full marks in all rating categories. We just love it!!! Sandra and Franz

It was a really lovely cottage.

I found that there was a slight lack of practical things like a wardrobe to hang clothes on in the parents bedroom and also in the bathroom. The fixed shower at the top without any hose was really a problem for me, who is a woman and does not want her hair to be systematically wet. You could see that it was an ideal pad for a man without too much regard for practical aspects. The manual for the oven was missing so we could not use the timer. I apologise as my son broke a normal size glass which slipped in the sink upstairs and broke. However, overall we had a lovely time.

Such an amazing beautiful property in a gorgeous quaint village with friendly locals.

Had lovely relaxing stay, and the cottage was well situated to travel around Cornwall. As we went to buy some local Cornish Pasties a local advised that the Butcher’s were better and they weren’t wrong! Amazing! The Chinese was lovely too. The cottage has everything that we could need and we all had a lovely time! The welcoming pastries were great too! Thank you John for the loan of your beautiful cottage. After a last minute change to our bank holiday plans, we were looking for a place to go, and decided on Cornwall.

We found this little gem of a cottage as it was convenient for places we wanted to visit - Eden, Heligan, Truro and Lanhydrock. However, it was so cosy and comfortable we'd have been quite happy staying in, just reading and playing games in front of the fire! There was nothing that we needed that wasn't provided. Parking in the suggested place wasn't a problem. We will look this cottage up if we ever return to the area.

A cosy, comfortable cottage, although quite dark due to the old-fashioned furniture.

There was no mention in the other reviews, but the road noise is very noticeable. The weather wasn't suitable for sitting outside, but it would not be relaxing due to the road noise, if you are not used to it. Good location for North and South Cornwall.

Fabulous Place could not fault it

The property was lovely as was John but on the original info we were advised to bring things like bin bags, tea towels and oven gloves, when we arrived it was all already there.

We had a problem with the shower but John sorted it out promptly. Had a great stay there and will go again.

A really lovely cottage with lots of extras a real home from home.

Easy access to town centre and all the locals friendly. 5 mins walk to railway station so great for exploring Cornwall. We loved our stay even if it was out of season.

A tray of pastries, tea & coffee sachets awaited us on arrival with fresh milk in the fridge.Beds were really comfortable & all facilities were great.A query to the owner by email was answered & resolved very quickly.Enjoyed our stay in a town I once lived in many years ago. The cottage is cosy, with everything one needs, and near the railway station for those of us who don’t drive, while Lostwithiel is a pretty little town with good shops and public houses - and an ideal base for exploring Cornwall on foot and by public transport.

What a gem of a cottage, very cosy, close to everything, a lovely place to return to after a day exploring, with the added bonus of pastries on arrival, definitely worth a re visit, next time we come to Cornwall

We had a great stay. We were concerned about the parking but it really wasn't an issue (maybe would be in high season).

! Location is fabulous for exploring Cornwall, and the village of Lostwithiel has ample pubs, shops, eateries to get by. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property.

The three of us had a great time in this cottage. Spotless and had everything we needed, kitchen had every utensil, cosy living room and bedrooms and a great shower. Lovely local area including Q Street cafe and Alice in Scandiland design store. Lots to see in 30 - 40 min drive including Fowey, Padstow and Newquay. Thank you!

Lovely little cottage in a lovely little town.

Everything we could need, very comfortable bed and smart tv (weather wasn't very friendly so relied on the tv quite a bit!). Local pubs very friendly, especially The Globe - excellent home made food.

Pleasant cottage with period furnishing, ideal as a base to explore and enjoy Lostwithiel area.

Parking is more difficult than it used to be however we always managed to find a free space.

Very pretty, cosy, well equipped and very clean little cottage.

I particularly loved the bluetooth radio/soundbar which I used more than the tv. All it needed was a PIR-type outside light at the back door for returning on winter evenings in the dark.

What a great find.

Perfect base to visit family and some nice walks. The option to wash our clothes after a torrid day was a bonus as the weather one day was horrendous. There was a lovely wood burner that sadly was too mild to light but cottage was cozy enough. The kitchen was well equipped and the lovely hosts were very thoughtful and left jam scones and clotted cream (see input the jam first) which was lovely to have with the tea and coffee provided. There was only one slight hiccup that was nothing to do with the property. The neighbouring property had a water leak and the workers had to dig a trench to sort which we had to traverse to exit property this was resolved by the time we returned. Will definitely return to this beautiful cottage. Thanks all involved

Really enjoyed our stay, lovely cosy cottage.

Made to feel very welcome by the owner, who left us a delicious cream tea. Free parking was a short stroll away, down by the Quay/River. We have a large puppy who prefers grass, so the river walk and nearby walks were preferred over the small paved garden. It was a great base from which to explore the stunning local and further a field walks and places. The owner left a great booklet which had great recommendations, plus the locals were friendly and full of some great recommends too. We had a great time and loved the stay. Thank you

Perfect cosy cottage, in a delightful little town, a short walk from the railway station and an ideal base for exploring the local area - and further afield.

We always enjoy returning to Lostwithiel as we were former residents.

My Aunt also used to own this cottage so it made the return more special. There was a cream tea awaiting us in the cottage provided by John and we really enjoyed our stay. The property was ideally stocked with local books too, which we enjoyed reading and returning to history. We would certainly recommend the property for couples and would consider booking again.

The phone number on the Sykes website was wrong for the owner.

We had a leak from the shower while there. Water was dripping through the lounge ceiling below. Managed to get hold of the owner by email. He was extremely apologetic and very quick to arrange a plumber to come and fix it. The Sykes website says there is roadside parking but this is not the case. The car park isn’t too far away on a daily basis but a bit of a trek with luggage etc on arrival and departure

We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage at Castle Hill.

It suited the three of us very well and is well situated for lots of local attractions. It was comfortable, clean and extremely well stocked with all amenities!

This is a great little cottage just on the edge of the town centre, with easy access to the shops, pubs and railway station, all of which are just a few minutes walk away.

I was very pleased with this property, and would certainly stay here again. The living room is comfortable and cosy, with a great wood burner. The kitchen is a bit narrow, but fully equipped, including a washing machine. The bedrooms are comfortable, and the shower room looks quite recent. There is a nice little terraced garden at the back, but please note that this, and the entrance to the property itself, are accessed across the drive of the neighbouring property.

Fantastic cottage for a reasonable price, we especially enjoyed coming home after trips out to the log burner.

John was very friendly pre our stay and there was a special welcome pack on arrival, even dog treats! A nice personal touch. Thanks for a great stay!

Great communication with the owner , there was no car parking on site but this was not an issue. Plenty of off street parking. Local residents were very friendly and sociable. Great experience. Highly recommended.

Lovely little cottage in a nice area.

The kitchen is well equipped. Free parking by the river was unexpected and is great. Recommend Nelly's pasty shop! All communication with the host was easy, with check in via a key safe.

We've stayed in a lot of UK cottages and this is one of the best.

Its a lovely cosy cottage with everything you need. Only one suggestion... A clothes airer or washing line would really be helpful. The cottage is in a perfect location for exploring all of Cornwall and the town of Lostwithiel has some lovely little shops including a bakers, butchers, CO-OP, Chinese takeaway and cafés. The Globe pub is one of the friendliest we've been too. Lots of walks on your doorstep. Wish we couldve stayed longer

We had a lovely holiday at the cottage in Lostwithiel.

The cottage was really nice and cosy, and we were near to the town, the train station and nice walks.

A perfect retreat in Lostwithiel from which to explore the attractive town and surrounding area on foot and by public transport, with a wonderful wood-burner for those chilly evening in.

The owner has gone to great lengths to ensure our comfort and also providing useful information to help us get the best from our holiday. Cream tea on arrival was very welcoming.

The host was very helpfull, very good communication, great great information material, very warm welcome with Cream Tea, very well equipped house (really nice dishes in the kitchen, firewood and kindlings for the living room), very bright beautiful bathroom, great soundproof windows, we only missed a spot light for reading in the evening, lovely house, we would move in any time!

Fantastic little cottage don’t be out of by lack of parking we had no problem parking by the river less than a 5 min walk We had everything we needed ideal base to go out and about very welcoming and cosy to come back to at the end of a full day We had a fantastic time at Lostfeast there are great places to visit and eat in Lostwithiel if you feel like a day around the village The Trewithen Bistro breakfast or just a coffee we tried there Tapas too they have a Restaurant too fabulous food amazing The little shops are little gems so all in all a fantastic holiday

The Cottage has close proximity to the village center of Lostwithiel, which is a lovley village.

The owner/caretaker was very friendly and obliging and left us a welcome note and some scones with clotted cream - delicious!

I would have liked direct access to the garden for our dog; however, this was a small inconvenience and the high standard of the cottage made up for it. I would have no hesitation in recommending the property to others. Lostwithiel is an interesting and attractive town and everyone was very friendly. Access to other towns is easy by train (the station is a 10 minute walk from the cottage) so having a car is not essential.

The cream tea left by the owner for our arrival was a very nice, unexpected, surprise.

13 Castle Hill is a perfect - and cosy - base for exploring eastern Cornwall by rail and on foot - for instance, Fowey, Polruan, Looe, Lanhydrock, Restormel, St Winnow and the Duchy Nursery.

And Lostwithiel itself is a very attractive little town.

We knew that parking would be difficult but people should be aware that, certainly in our case, we couldn't even unload our luggage at the cottage as the neighbour had a car and a large van.

Fortunately it was dry so it wasn't too much of a problem. During our stay we parked at the Quay about 5 minutes walk which was fine. However, more important, the cottage was absolutely great with excellent facilities.

Handy for pubs, restaurants and shops. Lostwithiel is a really nice place to be. We have only ever driven through it before and didn't realize how picturesque it is down by the river. Good pubs, restaurants and a very good Co-op supermarket.

An excellent central base to explore this area of Cornwall.

Lostwithiel itself is a superb place, especially good for river picnics when the weather is good, watching the local children playing in the river, quintessential England. Highly recommend.

This is a lovely cottage very conveniently situated within the delightful town of Lostwithiel.

It is very comfortable has everything needed for a great holiday base in Cornwall. The added extras make it special, cream tea on arrival and hedgerow flowers on the table. Have stayed there three times now and will definately be going back.

Property owners left us cream tea to welcome us and everything was more than satisfactory.

Cream tea waiting for us on arrival was a lovely surprise and set the tone for the holiday.

The cottage was very comfortable and well-equipped. Our only negative feedback would be that the road going close by the cottage (A390) was much busier and therefore noisier than we expected. Traffic seemed heavy in the early hours of the morning in the front bedroom, which tended to wake us up! Other than that, we had a lovely stay and really enjoyed the cottage and surrounding area.
