Description

In Cawsand, a stone's throw from the beach, a 17th cent., Grade II listed cottage, its interesting past hinted at by the smugglers’ tunnel disguised in an under-stair cupboard. Once also the village sweetshop, it nestles alongside sister cottages on a narrow lane behind the square with only occasional vehicles passing. Behind, sheltered by a high wall and with a peek of the sea between rooftops, an enclosed suntrap paved terrace with decked area (table/chairs). Inside, good-sized rooms and original beams (some low lintels). From the lane, 3 steps up to tiled lobby and bathroom (suite, shower over bath). Stable doors and step up to living/dining room (smart TV/DVD, woodburner) a step down to a smart cottage-style kitchen (slimline dishwasher, washer-drier, microwave, freezer, larder fridge, electric cooker) with slate floor and granite worktops. A step up to the rear hall (space for beach gear/boots, children’s board games) and shower-room (suite, overhead shower plus hand-shower). Steep narrow stairs (5'2" beam, rope rail) wind up to the first floor landing (smuggler's tunnel cupboard; door to garden) and two bedrooms - a double (5' bed), and a twin. Not suitable for guests with limited mobility. Loading/unloading outside; car park, 175 yards. Pub, shop, 50 yards. A welcoming cottage in a friendly seaside village.

Kingsand and Cawsand: exquisite adjoining fishing villages in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty sheltered by a wooded headland; pebble-and-sand beaches, family pubs, cafés, essential shops. Watersports hire in Cawsand. Whitsand Bay, 1 mile; Mount Edgcumbe (800 acres for walking), and seasonal pedestrian ferry to Plymouth (city amenities, theatre, cinema), 2½ miles. Plymouth by car ferry, 8½ miles.

Yet another perfect stay in Cousham Cottage.

I don’t know how many times we’ve stayed here but it’s quite a few! For us, it’s perfect. Large enough that you have room to breathe but still cosy. Everything you could possibly require is there. Home from home. Seconds from the beach and places to eat and drink. A few minutes walk to the little supermarket and further beaches and pubs. Ideally located for Looe and Polperro. We always make a pilgrimage to Rame Head as it’s too stunning to miss. It’s a wonderful walk from the village along the coast path or a short drive to the car park which is £1. Millbrook is only a a few minutes away in a car for more provisions and a pharmacy, always good to know. If you can, try The Bay for a meal. Right on the beach. Food exceptional and really lovely people. Very dog friendly! If I could give Cousham Cottage more than 5 stars, I would. Thank you…….back next May!
