Clamoak Cottage

Clamoak is in a fantastic position on the bank of the River Tamar.

The views are spectacular from most places in the garden. There is the noise of birds in the estuary 'doing their thing' but little else, really relaxing. The owner provided lots of information in advance of the holiday and during our stay. There are also useful signs around the property and the garden to help visitors remember their responsibilities. The terrace does provide an excellent place to sit and admire the view across the river to Cornwall. However, some of the paving is uneven and loose so care should be taken. That aside, the garden is great for children and dogs. Ours had a fantastic time chasing each other around. I must say, for the first time in many years, I was sad to leave at the end of the holiday.

Clamoak in Bere Alston is a charming cottage with outstanding views in an area of outstanding beauty.

We really enjoyed this tranquil spot on the Tamar Estuary with its changing tides and birdlife outside mirrored inside the cottage with pleasing artistic touches. The cottage has two comfy bedrooms, two good showers (one including a bath if required),a well equipped kitchen and entertainment options to watch Netflix or attach music to Sonos Speakers- we were very happy and so was our dog. Clamoak has a beautiful garden - fortunately he kept away from the mud by the estuary! We appreciated our cream tea on arrival, pre- arrival welcome chat and kind support from David and Fiona, our hosts we would have loved to stay longer. We visited Buckland Abbey, Cotohele, Plymouth and Tavistock. We recommend The Olde Plough Inn at Bere Ferris - nearest pub - for their friendly service and pleasing burger meals!

We had a lovely stay at Clamoak Cottage.

The daily changing views of the tidal river Tamar were beautiful. Peaceful location where we really managed to unwind. Fiona was so helpful in giving us lots of great ideas and information regarding the local area and was available to answer any questions without being intrusive. A great place to get away from it all and take time to relax.

We loved staying at Clamoak.

It’s such a peaceful location, right on the riverside. I loved my morning cuppa sat on the sun lounger looking at the water. Good facilities, well equipped kitchen, lots of games to play, and interesting books/maps about the area. Fiona was a thoughtful owner, who wanted to make sure we know what was what, and checked in with us whilst we were that to check we were ok. Scones and clotted cream was a lovely welcome pack! Thank you!

A wonderful Cottage soaking in the natural beauty of the wildlife and boats on the River Tamar.

Utter Tranquility needed from chaotic life. Endless wooded walks with our content dog to Bere Alston for groceries and a fantastic Butchers for the BBQ. The 4 hour circular walk and brief ferry across to Calstock for a decent Pub and chips was great too. We certainly weren't 'bird spotters' upon arrival but you are drawn to all the variety whilst enjoying the sun loungers by the foreshore. Tour da Geese I named them flying by, witnessed a Cormorant catching a fish and best of all on the last evening watching the beautiful sunset a barn owl flew passed the house. We will definitely be returning 2027.Highly recommended.

We had a lovely 4 day stay in Clamoak cottage, Flynn our Collie loved the garden and felt right at home which helps us to relax.

Views from the window nothing short of spectacular, and sunset to die for. Fiona our host could not have done more to make our stay go trouble free. Thank you again. Will be back.

Our week spent at Clamoak Cottage was extremely enjoyable.

The cottage is lovely with superb views of the Tamar river and valley. Not sure waking up to the sound of Curlews can be beaten. The location is peaceful and and calming just what we wanted. The owner is very supportive and provides lots of interesting and helpful info regarding the cottage and the area to visit. We had wall-to-wall sun all week which made the stay even better but id love to stay in the Autumn:-) A real sanctuary!

This is a very comfortable property which was very clean with excellent facilities and a beautiful garden, overlooking the tidal River Tamar.

We had a fabulous week at Clamoak cottage.

This beautiful holiday home on the banks of the Tamar river is a real gem. The beds are comfy, the kitchen had everything we needed, the views from the living rooms and conservatory are stunning. The gardens are well maintained, the gardem furniture was a godsend as with the beautiful weather we had after a few hours out and about a lot of our time was spent on the sun loungers where we would spot different birds,watch the tides go in and out most evenings we would be out there until late. If there is a downside I would say be prepared for the very narrow typically Devon country lanes down to Clamoak. The excellent communication from Fiona showed how much they cared about making their guests feel relaxed .

The location, decor, and tranquility on the banks of the River Tamar, are second to none! If you’re looking for somewhere to chill and decompress, then this cottage is for you. We were made to feel very welcome & Fiona provided plenty of information. The house has all the amenities you need & the gardens & views are fabulous.

Booked Clamoak Cottage for a three day works trip and wanted somewhere that was quite after work.

The cottage is right on the river shore and very peaceful with good facilities. Also being a runner I wanted to have access to some good routes and the lanes around the area provided both a 5k and 10k easy to follow options, so if you don't mind a few short hills I can recommend them. If im back this way again Ill defiantly rebook

What a hidden treasure.

fabulous location, everything you could need provided. a real home from home. Fi the owner sent an extensive list of suggestions for great places to eat and explore many of which we did find and use. the cottage is set in a beautiful garden with furniture that allowed us to sit and enjoy the sunsets over the estuary even in May. lovely cottage 5 stars *****

Idyllic riverside retreat off the beaten track, dark nights, birdsong and the gentle rhythm of watching the tidal river come and go.

Beautiful accommodation, warm and cosy, great views from every room, all mod cons. Peaceful place to read a book by the log fire. Little terrace on the waters edge to watch the ducks and boats drifting by. The garden is divine, careful planting makes the most of the sloping plot, this spring visit showed it in full glory. Lovely walks from the door, village shops a very short drive away, and the heritage railway station just 2 miles. This was our second visit to Clamoak cottage.

The location is exceptional with wonderful views over the estuary whatever the weather. The garden was looking lovely with lots of spring colour. The two large bedrooms are very comfortable with windows overlooking the estuary and one overlooking the garden too. The large beds are very comfortable. It was nice to have a bathroom for each bedroom and lots of soft towels as well as soap and hand cream at every sink. The kitchen is well equipped and we had all we needed for self catering. The views from the kitchen, dining room and sitting room are wonderful and we loved to sit and watch the wildlife and changing colours as the tide came in and out. There is ample comfortable seating and a wood burner if you need it, but we found the house to be very warm and comfortable once we turned the radiators on. The cottage is well maintained, clean and comfortable and very peaceful. Fiona is an excellent host ensuring you have all the information you need and supplying a Devon cream tea on arrival. This is certainly a place to return to.

PLUS the situation. Right on the banks of the Tamar Estuary, looking across the water to Cornwall, the view is ever changing.With the sounds of passing geese and distant curlews, there is little need to go further. If you do feel the need to explore , Fiona, the owner, will give you plenty of useful advice. Loved every minute of our stay. Mary

A beautiful cottage in a fabulous position on the edge of the Tamar Estuary, and with a lovely and well-cared-for garden.

Very comfortable and warm inside, comfortable beds, lovely linen, great reception rooms all with amazing views, an excellent array of local information and books - in fact we couldn't fault anything. Incredibly helpful owners who clearly love their house - on arrival every room had fresh flowers in it, and we were greeted with a cream tea!

The owner happened to be there as we arrived and greeted us with a cream tea which was a lovely welcome.

The property itself is wonderful with fantastic views of the river Tamar on your doorstep. It was great watching the bird life right outside your window. It was a very peaceful, relaxing holiday. When we did leave the cosy cottage, the area is great for walking. Can thoroughly recommend.

A genuinely feel good cottage in a wonderfully relaxing location.

The garden was a delight even at this time of the year with an abundance of snowdrops. Loved using the telescope to observe the estuary birds. Highly recommended.

We spent a wonderful time in this comfortable cottage.

Arriving we were welcomed by Christmas tree lights in the front window, On entering we were welcomed by more trees sparkling lights and sprigs and vases of Christmas greenery to celebrate the season . How lovely. There are so many little touches of joy in this cottage it shows that it is loved. The magic of the river is a glance away Through the windows. Tide in and out Mud flats and birds wonderful skies snd haunting mists. It’s a very special place of peace and tranquility.

Visiting in England in November isn’t everyone’s idea of a holiday but Clamoak is I think exceptional.

From the moment I walked into the house I was in a comfortable and warm home from home. Lovely too, to light the wood burner when there was a storm blowing a hooley outside . The river is fascinating as tides come and go and there are birds are everywhere. The telescope is amazing when you want to watch the waders and sea birds. The garden was safe for my dogs, they aren’t swimmers so weren’t tempted by the river but there were lots of nooks for them to explore. We didn’t venture too far but Tavistock, Cothele and Calstock are close by. The boatyard cafe was lovely and so tolerant of my dogs on a wet day. There are lots of games and books to pass your time with and I loved the chance to relax and enjoy some peace.

Clamoak Cottage is a fabulous place to stay for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

The views of the river are amazing and you can just sit and watch the ever changing vista. We visited in October and the cottage was warm, cosy and comfortable. There are a good range of facilities such as dishwasher and washer/dryer and the property is very dog friendly. The garden is also fantastic and very well tended. There are several National Trust properties within a short drive and you can also use the lovely local train service to visit Plymouth. We had great communication with Fiona and felt comfortable in being able to contact her should we need to. We had the most wonderful week at Clamoak Cottage and already miss those beautiful river views!

A superb location with exceptional views across the estuary which teems with bird life.

Lots of boating activity to add to the interest. The approach to Clamoak takes a bit of getting used to, but the narrow roads are not busy and not an issue after a day or two. The cream tea welcome tray was a nice surprise. The cottage was quirky but comfortable and well equipped, perfect for resting up after a day out. We were lucky with the weather which allowed us to fully use the garden area. Fiona couldn't have been more helpful and there are loads of books and maps available in the cottage. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable stay and we wouldn't hesitate to book again.

Clamoak Cottage is in a lovely location but expert reversing skills are essential for getting on to the drive and down the very narrow lanes with few passing places.

Plenty of lovely dog walks . Just a few minutes drive to the train station for Plymouth for a shopping day and Harbour. Looe is in driving distance for a beach day ; amongst other local towns . With Tavistock a short drive away with some lovely places to eat. A really beautiful setting to enjoy a BBQ at the end of your day , watching the sun set . The cottage had everything we needed for our stay.

The cottage is a beautiful place to stay.

The views and tranquility of the estuary alone make it a unique place. In addition the cottage has everything you need from a well equipped kitchen to games and puzzles, maps and books. The bed was very comfortable after a day of walking completing the whole experience. Fiona is keen to share her knowledge and love of the cottage and area and gave great tips for days out. It would be lovely to return during a different season.

Lovely walks along the river from the cottage - the cafe at the boatyard makes a nice stop for morning coffee overlooking the river. The weather was kind to us so we ate a BBQ dinner outside most evenings. A very relaxing week in a beautiful location - I would have no hesitation recommending Clamoak Cottage to others.

All as described. Enjoyed our stay with lovely weather the whole week. Cottage was in a lovely location with plenty of activity to watch, boats and rowing crews , not many wading birds but plenty in the pretty garden.

Firstly , we thought it was a brilliant setting for the cottage ,and huge investment ,thought and care has gone into all aspects of the cottage and also the garden.

Every possible scenario had been anticipated and catered for !had We both thought that perhaps a warning about the staircase requiring care, ,particularly if carrying things . Secondly, as the user of the family bathroom , getting in and out of the bath with no grab rail, and no non skid bath mat in the bath ,I found rather tricky !

We have stayed in lots of holiday properties but Clamoak stands out as the best ever!

The location is stunning with amazing views from every window and all the home comforts you would need. The beds are incredibly comfortable, the showers are great and the scones, jam and cream from the owner were yummy and such a kind thought. We would love to return!

Beautifully situated cottage, right on the banks of the Tamar.

Stunning views with sheltered spots to sit outside and enjoy watching the many birds on the water and in the garden. Lovely clean bedrooms and bathrooms. Kitchen well stocked with useful equipment. Lots of helpful communication with Fiona. Plenty of places to visit nearby. We were so lucky with amazing sunny weather for our stay. A really special place.

Lovely cosy cottage for a winter break.

We were kept nice and warm by the Aga. Stunning views of the river from bedroom and lounge windows. Spent time watching abundant bird life through binoculars. Great for dogs with enclosed garden sloping down to river. Straight out of the cottage on to the river bank so instant dog walks with beautiful views of the Tamar. Nice to walk along the shore to the boatyard for coffee and snacks - dogs welcomed. Nice meals in pub close by with music and quiz events - plenty going on in area but also very comfortable and warm inside with just watching the river views.

An idyllic cottage set on the edge of the River Tamar.

Such a peaceful location and the perfect site if you are a keen birdwatcher or artist. Also perfect for our cairn terrier Bella with washing facilities by the rear door and bowls and bed provided. The Cottage was well decorated and the beds were very comfortable. Would highly recommend a stay at Clamoak Cottage.

A really comfortable large cottage in a scenic location.

Many great dog walks and, although we did not let the younger dog off the lead (too interested in swimming and squirrels to be trusted), we all throughly enjoyed the garden. Thank you for all the work in the background to ensure guests feel welcome.

The Cottage is in a wonderful setting by the side of the Tamar River with views which are most impressive.

The Cottage itself is immaculate and with all the facilities we could have wished for. During our stay we explored the area, including Dartmoor, Dartmouth and Plymouth, but always looked forward to returning to the cottage in the evening as it was so relaxing just watching the wildlife on the river. Whilst we did not meet Fiona , one of the owners, we spoke on the phone and she could not have been more helpful. I very much hope we are able to make a return visit to Clamoak Cottage in the not too distant future and feel we would enjoy our stay as much in winter as we did very recently in July.

The 2 standard light fittings in the living room were unstable and dangerous.

Clamoak Cottage was all that we could have wished for and more.

What a wonderful setting right by the water and so peaceful. We loved watching the birds and the antics of the squirrels. I can honestly say that it was the most relaxing holiday we have had. A big thank you to Fiona for all her help and advice. We hope to return.

It’s situated in such a beautiful, peaceful and unspoiled location. The cottage was clean, the beds comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the wonderful garden listening to the birds and watching the ever-changing river view. Clamoak is a lovely cottage in a beautiful location.

The cottage itself is well equipped, comfortable and homely. The garden and views over the river are wonderful and ever changing. Although the weather for most of our short break was wet and windy, having the views from the lounge and conservatory across the river and being able to watch the birds and wildlife was a real bonus. There are nice walks from the property too. The owner was very helpful and able to be contacted if needed and the little extras left for us and our 2 dogs was much appreciated. If you enjoy wildlife, lovely views and want a peaceful holiday, I would recommend a break at Clamoak.

Despite bad weather for the week we were there, we relaxed immediately and had a wonderful relaxing week. We would love to come back in the summer to enjoy the garden.

Well equipped, warm and comfortable. Perfect for walkers and bird watchers. Beautiful even in winter. We enjoyed our week, even though as older folk , we couldnt take advantage of the walks. Not very mobile, we found the steps and stairs a little difficult. However,I have already recommended Clamoak Cottage to my niece, and I know she and her family will love it. The owner was most helpful and a fund of information, thank you Fiona!

Great location for relaxing.

Bring what you need and just stay put. A comfortable, cosy warm cottage with an ever changing scenery through the picture window, right there, at the end of the garden! Get to know Mertil the Egret, watch the evening fly past of Elgar the Heron or just be mesmerized by the ever changing sky. Beautiful nature!

This was our first visit to Clamoak Cottage.

The peace and tranquility hits you as you drive through the gate. The situation of the Cottage on the banks of the river is outstanding. The Cottage itself was very clean, well equipped and beautifully presented making for a lovely homely feel. Plenty of information provided regarding places to visit etc. Fiona has thought of everything! Our time was spent walking locally exploring the area and then relaxing in the garden watching the boats coming and going. Absolute heaven! We had a wonderful holiday, location was breathtaking so close to the water, more than we could wish for.

So peaceful and quiet, everything was catered for in the cottage, absolutely spotless. The cottage was in a perfect position to visit historical venues that were reasonable to get to. Plenty of beautiful walks for humans and dogs (very dog friendly people and places ). Food was excellent when eating out and fully equipped for cooking or barbeque outside on the patio area. Fiona was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, would gladly re visit again in the future.

There are local walks straight from the doorstep and Dartmoor is just a short driveway. The owners Fiona and Dave couldn’t have been more helpful and made sure we had everything we and the dogs needed for a perfect holiday. It was difficult to leave the peace and quiet and the beautiful setting, hopefully we will be back. 10/10

We absolutely loved our week at Clamoak Cottage.

As we pulled through the gate we were wowed by the view of the river and the setting of the cottage. Thanks to our luck in having beautiful weather, we spent a lot of time on the BBQ terrace enjoying the peace and surroundings. The cottage itself is of a very high standard, extremely comfortable and well equipped. It is surrounded by a beautiful garden. Everything has been thought of by the owners to make for the perfect holiday. Many thanks.

We can’t fault this beautiful cottage in its perfect setting right on the banks of the tidal river, providing ever changing views and wrapped around by an amazingly well kept private garden, providing so many choices to sit and relax in!

The cottage is spacious and well equipped by the thoughtful owners, Fiona and David. Fiona welcomed and prepared us for our stay with a friendly chat on the phone before hand. We knew that we could contact her anytime if we needed to (which we did) and the response and help given surpassed all our expectations. We cannot recommend this holiday cottage enough. Especially if you enjoy peace and tranquility or walking and exploring - it’s all here - and we hope to be back!

Delightful cottage, as previously mentioned, pictures didn’t do it justice.

We were lucky with weather and thoroughly enjoyed our cup of tea on the patio every morning , watching all the wildlife. In the evenings, the views of the sunsets across the water with only the sound of the water birds to accompany, was so peaceful. The house was efficiently heated and the beds were very comfortable. Plenty of seating for the four of us and fully equipped. The lane by the house was so quiet we were able to walk the dogs right from the door. The pub in Bere Ferrers did great take away food, only short drive from cottage. Definitely the place to get away from it all. Would thoroughly recommend.

We loved the location and some of the white appliances were good.

It was very well equipped too but I had to go through the house with the vacuum when we arrived. There were cobwebs and spiders everywhere. We wanted to use the dual aspect bedroom but it had a smell of damp, especially the built in wardrobe, so we moved into the other bedroom. I told the owner and she sent someone to inspect it. Some days there was a strong ammonia smell coming up through the toilets from the sceptic tank, it wasn't pleasant. I have informed the owner. These things took the edge off our 30th anniversary, but sitting out watching the changing tides was memorable and so peaceful.

We had a really lovely week at Clamoak cottage which is situated in a peaceful but scenic spot overlooking the Tamar estuary.

The cottage was spotlessly clean when we arrived and the owners had left us a cream tea with local scones and jam which was a nice touch. It was fascinating watching the ebb and flow of the tide daily and the birds coming and going. The owners supplied a comprehensive written manual of local knowledge and suggestions for outings including eating out. The cottage is well equipped with everything you could possibly want and stylishly furnished with comfort in mind. In fact though we went out somewhere every day we always looked forward to returning to the cottage which felt like being enveloped in a big hug of welcome and comfort. We are looking forward to returning.

This was an absolutely lovely cottage to stay at: a beautiful house in wonderful surroundings.

Every room was nicely decorated and all were fresh and clean. The view was as breathtaking as the photos on the website and there was plenty of space inside and out to relax and enjoy.

Clamoak cottage is an absolute gem.

We had an amazing week in this idyllic location. Spacious cottage with great gardens, front and back. Massive bonus for us was to be able to paddle board straight from the garden. The facilities in the cottage were second to none and we were grateful that maps, walking books, OS maps etc are back post covid restrictions along with a decent arrival and departure time. Wonderful cream tea on arrival which was much appreciated. The quick call with Fiona prior to the holiday was so useful and she was only a call away for any queries or local info during the stay. Would thoroughly recommend Clamoak.

Loved the books and binoculars that were available to use. Fiona was brilliant and provided lots of helpful information prior to our visit. We were a bit unsure of a holiday given the current circumstances and trying to get back to some normality after lockdown however, this cottage really did tick all the boxes and is in a lovely location away from the general tourist areas and we had a lovely relaxing much needed holiday!

Clamoak Cottage is a beautiful cottage, set amongst colourful gardens in a stunning setting.

Views of the river from all rooms. The cottage is well stocked and super comfortable. Lovely welcoming cream tea was provided on arrival. Location is great. Many places to explore all around. Fiona has left a detailed book with lots of handy tips for restaurants and pubs, day trips, etc. Wouldn't hesitate to book a return visit!

What a lovely place to stay only wish I lived there found my self watching the wildlife and views of the estuaries far more than watching the TV.

Dogs loved the view of the squirrel eating from the bird feeders kept them amused for hours.so peaceful loved the place.

The location of this cottage was superb, right on the river Tamar.

So peaceful, the changing tides, the birds, the boats and beautiful garden. The perfect place to unwind. The house was delightful, spacious and very well equipped. All OS maps and local walks provided. We just explored the local area, so many walks and enjoyed Cothele, Burrator Reservoir and walking to Calstock viaduct. Bere Alston has two little supermarkets, butchers, and PO sells fresh bread and scones. Also excellent fish n chip shop. Garden furniture provided, we just stayed put one day, enjoyed the sunshine, the gorgeous location, and the Boatyard down the road has a cafe and ice creams. Can’t praise this property enough and the owner Fiona so helpful.

Garden was lovely and the cottage was a delight and equipped with everything you need. Location is very quiet, but we enjoyed the peace and tranquility. Owner was very helpful with information. We will definitely consider going back.

Clamoak is a cosy cottage in a unique and picturesque spot.

The gardens are a delight and the owners have taken time to ensure everything you might need for a comfortable stay is provided. The furnishings are of a very high standard and the house is decorated in an artistic style with lots of lovely touches. We are used to a memory foam mattress so found the beds a little less comfortable than we had hoped. Lovely to arrive to a tray of scones jam and cream and there was a pint of milk in the fridge. Lots of useful information provided by the owner

We had a lovely stay at Clamoak Cottage - it's riverside location is beautiful and gave us a week of calm and tranquility.

Lots of places to visit nearby including Buckland Abbey, Cotehele, Tavistock and Calstock. Fiona was great and gave us lots of helpful information prior to arrival. The welcome cream tea was lovely especially when the scones had been popped in the Aga for 10 minutes!! We would return in a heartbeat!!

A lovely house in a stunning location.

A lot to do in the local area ,excellent for walking. Ideal for a winter break . Sitting in the conservatory with beautiful views over the Tamar and watching the varied bird life on the river is delightful ,even if there are periods when the weather is not so good . The local National Trust properties were all partially open , so a good opportunity to explore the gardens, grounds etc when they are less busy followed by a visit to the NT cafe! A very helpful and informative owner who is readily available by phone to answer questions or deal with any problems, of which we had none as our stay was perfect in every way. Very highly recommended.

Our week at Clamoak cottage was one of the most relaxing and refreshing weeks I’ve ever had.

The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and was very well equipped, also the beds were super comfy. There is everything here for a restorative break from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The view is a magical ever changing panorama as the tide flows up the estuary and down again, bringing a variety of birds and wildlife. We spent hours just looking at it. The garden too is lovely and very well maintained. There are seats snd benches here and there to enjoy the sun and the views. Bird feeders and areas of wild garden to encourage bees, butterflies and wildlife as well as thoughtful planting of herbs, bulbs and shrubs. We visited in January so were delighted to see pockets of snowdrops as well as cyclamen and mini irises. We had intended to explore the area more but apart from a couple of trips into Tavistock we found we were completely content to stay in and around the cottage. I can highly recommend it.

Clamoak Cottage is an ideal place to visit for a combined retreat and holiday.

The location is quite remote (a good thing) in that no major trunk roads pass by and it is in a stunning setting on the banks of the River Tamar. The cottage itself is lovely with expansive views across the river and it is well equipped with the usual electronic devices plus an Aga and a log burner. The bedrooms have very comfortable beds and mattresses and each has its own bathroom. The owners are very helpful and contactable should any issues arise and make a great effort to ensure you enjoy your stay at Clamoak.

Clamoak is an immaculate cottage, and well appointed.

We stayed in December and it was lovely. I can only imagine what the view and sunsets over the river must be like on summer evenings.

The communication with the owner was second to none, thank you so much Fiona! The location is just wonderful. I could have happily sat all day and night looking out over the river. Even in the winter it is a truly magical location. It must be even more magical in the warmer months. And it was so quiet! We live in the middle of a sleepy rural village but Clamoak Cottage was even quieter! A real get away from everything. The cottage was very comfortable. We had everything we could have needed for our stay. The beds were extremely comfortable! So much so, we had a quick look to see who had supplied them. I loved cooking in the Aga. My roast tomatoes with breakfast were to die for! I'm so glad we had the opportunity to be there in the winter when the Aga is lit. There are lovely touches provided by the owners. The scones were delicious! I really can't think of anything else we could have asked for or expected. There is loads of information at the cottage, more than any other Sykes cottage we have stayed at. The telescope and binoculars were a lovely addition, that enabled us to bird watch more easily together with the books identifying the birds we saw. I really can't recommend this cottage enough and look forward to going back when work allows.

A lovely cottage with the most fantastic, uninterrupted views of the River and fields beyond.

The gardens are lovely even in late Autumn. Wonderfully comfortable bed, and so peaceful that you can’t fail to have a good night’s sleep here. The cottage was warm and cosy, with the Aga making it even more so. The narrow winding country lanes are easy to negotiate at a sensible speed, and are all part of the charm of this beautiful part of Devon. The bird and wildlife in the garden are a delight to watch from the huge lounge window and very comfy sofa. The advanced information and contact from Fiona was very useful, and she was happy to answer any questions we may have had during our stay. We would love to stay at Clamoak cottage again, perhaps in Spring or Summer, but equally another late Autumn or Winter holiday there would be perfect! We would not hesitate in recommending Clamoak to anyone.

What a lovely find this secluded cottage on the river is,just the place for quiet and a comfortable break from everything, sit on the terrace and watch the boats going up and down the Tamar on a sunny evening, then relax in the spacious cottage, or enjoy the garden with all the plants and shrubs which has been beautifully laid out.

Would thoroughly recommend a visit here,we had a lovely two weeks here and would definitely come again.

The river is so calming one can't help but slow down. There's fantastic walking close by, both up on the hills of Dartmoor and in the beautiful wooded valleys that run down from it.

This lovely cottage is very well-equipped, warm and comfortable.

It is in a fantastic position on the edge of the estuary, with wonderful views. Great for spotting waders and garden birds from the conservatory. Owners are extremely helpful and thoughtful, nothing too much trouble, and provided a welcoming cream tea on arrival. A Christmas tree and decorations were also in place for our December week, which was lovely.

We had a wonderful time at Clamoak, although the weather was not very kind to us, we found plenty of walks and places to visit in the area.

The cottage was very warm and comfy with fabulous views of the Tamar river, which you can't help but keep watching as it is ever changing. Additional measures had been put in place which help to make you feel safe at this time of Covid-19. Thank you for a lovely break.

This is the second time we have visited this cottage in the most idyllic situation you could wish to be.

Last time we came we rebooked for the following year,being this year,the day after we returned home. This year we surpassed ourselves and booked for next year again whilst we were still at the property.......I think that says it all. Clamoak Cottage is fabulous.

We travelled as a family of 4 with our 11 & 14 year old sons. The cottage is spacious, really well equipped, beautifully decorated and in a fantastic location. The owner Fiona communicated brilliantly and was super helpful providing us with information about the local area. I hate to say anything negative about Clamoak as it was amazing and we would definitely return. The only thing we would change is the mattresses. Although they seem like good quality mattresses we could all feel a spring at times.

Very comfortable. All our silly questions were happily answered by the owner as nothing troubled her. The garden is lovely and the views spectacular.

The cottage was perfect as was our host who I felt was as determined for our stay to be as good as possible.

It was far better than we could have hoped. The cottage has absolutely everything needed for a total chill out. Beautifully and comfortably furnished with every appliance and essential kitchen requirements provided , Location wise peaceful , with lots of walks accessible without using your car . The village nearby has all you need along with friendly locals. We are a couple in our late 50s and were joined by family members in their mid twenties who live in London engaging in all our capital has to offer . The cottage met all of our requirements including my ageing Yorkshire terrier who appeared to have a new lease of life ! Give it a try you won’t be disappointed

Absolutely beautiful cottage cosy and warm with a beautiful view of the river exceeded our expectations,even though the weather was awful most of the time ,visited Cotehele and Buckland abbey as we are national trust members .

. A beautiful cottage inside & out. Lovely views out onto the Estry , we cannot fault this cottage at all. It is a must if you want to switch off from the outside world and absorb yourself listening to the water , watching the birds ,seeing the sunrise & sunset. Its breathtaking. Everything we needed was there and our 2 Beagles were catered for too. Fiona was in contact prior to holiday and upon arrival, making sure we arrived safely and if all was ok ,which we thought was so nice. Visited lots of places , went on some beautiful walks with our dogs. We can honestly say we came back relaxed & content. Thank you so much Fiona and for our lovely welcome treat too ( scones ,cream & jam were delicious)Julie ,Barry, Trooper & Bandit

Lovely cottage in a fab location - the tidal River Tamar really is at the bottom of the garden!

Huge comfy beds in both bedrooms with quality linen; good quality crockery (and loads of it) and plenty of pans and - drumroll - big mugs which need a mention as I've found in many rentals over the years that a lot of cottages only have small mugs so I have to always remember to take my own! After doing a 10 point turn on the first day, I reversed in the other times but you have to take care as the entrance is right on a blind corner. Myself, my elderly mum and old lady dog enjoyed our stay and would recommend this cottage.

Wonderful bird life and changing vistas. Very well equipped for all your holiday needs. The cottage is beautifully clean with a cosy feeling and although visited in November, the cottage was always warm when we returned after a day out. Close to Plymouth and Tavistock, only a short drive from the railway station going directly into Plymouth, a great way to leave the car behind and visit the city, and dogs travel free! Tavistock pannier market is worth a visit.

The owner had left us a welcome pack containing of a cream tea and treats for our dog very welcome indeed. Would highly recommend this to other people .

One of the best cottages I have stayed in, wonderfull location within the Tamar valley.

A train ride from Bere Alston to Plymouth was cheap and easy. Tavistock is a must with it's £2.50 all day parking. Great shopping and delightful people as was Launceston. I cannot recommend enough how good this cottage is even in a wet October week. The owners are brilliant with so much communication to make sure we were happy, they really do take huge pride in what they do. Thankyou Sykes and Fiona.

The owner was very attentive to our comfort when there was a slight problem with the heating.

She had the matter attended to swiftly and we felt cared for, which enhanced the enjoyment of the holiday. A very lovely cottage in a beautiful location.

This beautiful comfortable cottage, with its awesome, ever changing, ebbing and flowing river vista, was truly a place of peace and tranquillity that we so needed this last week and despite the constant rain we both felt warm , hugged and safe .

....and if anything, the rain added to the coziness. We were looking for a haven away from life so we didn't travel far but the village of Bere Alston supplied all our needs and is only 10 minutes away. I would 100% recommend Clamoak Cottage regardless of the kind of holiday you are looking for...as a base it is ideally placed for exploring, walking, cycling or for the seclusion of photography, writing or art it is a wonderful retreat. We have already booked again for next year and are already planning the excursions and adventures we missed out on this year due to personal circumstances. Clamoak Cottage certainly did work it's magic on us and we are eager to return next year.

As much as I would like this cottage to remain a secret,I am duty bound to say this is the best cottage I have ever stayed in,the attention to detail is exemplary and the location is amazing, I have already booked to go back next year.

The estuary setting is beautiful and peaceful, watching the sun setting from the terrace was exactly what we needed to unwind. There are plenty of local destinations and walks to keep the dog happy! We found the cottage itself extremely comfortable for the two of us (+ dog), with everything we could have asked for. We ate at the cottage every night as we didn't feel the need to leave. Highly recommended. Thank you - we hope to return!

Quiet, stunning location overlooking ever changing estuary.

Such a lot of thought has gone into making Clamoak a lovely place to stay.

The location by the estuary is amazing and the garden and comfort of the cottage made this such an enjoyable stay. Dogs were well catered for with extra throws to cover settees. I didn’t want to leave. There is plenty to do in the location as well as walks and bird watching.

Very quiet cottage with gated access.

The cottage is adjoined via the kitchen to the next door property, but I didn't find any disturbance issue and wasn't awoken in the morning even with the windows open. Parking and access - Two cars can be parked, but bear in mind the property is on a Devon single lane country corner and after a few turning attempts I found it easiest to reverse off the road rather than the eight point turn in my Mini with the car sensors being money well spent ;) Equipped - the cottage is well catered for with a washing machine (which I didn't use) and also a dishwasher which, sadly is missed at many cottages I visit. The cottage also has an Apps enabled TV for You Tube, Netflix as well as Sonos in the lounge as well as a gas barbecue. I found no issues with the internet. If I was to be picky, it would have been a plus to have an additional Sonos in the conservatory and a TV in the main bedroom. Although there is a DAB radio in the kitchen. Comfort - the bed was big and very comfortable and easily to a high standard, having stayed at The Shard earlier in the year my standards are quite high. Bathrooms were fully equipped. Pets - I traveled with my Collie dog. It was a credit to the owners that thought had been made towards him, being his vacation also. I tend to find too many owners take advantage of this, charge extra for no benefit to the vacationer or pet. The River - The Friday night appeared to be the most active on the Estuary, so make the most of the views on that evening.

The cottage is in a stunning location and the views from the garden and windows are breathtaking.

We found that we were happy to spend most of our time in the garden or on the terrace, and we didn’t need to drive for miles to find spectacular walks. The cottage is very well equipped and we had everything we needed. The only negative thing I encountered was how confusing the recycling was. The instructions in the folder advised that the general rubbish was to be put in the tall black bin, but we couldn’t find one. We found a green one for recycling & a blue one (which wasn’t mentioned in the manual at all) which we thought must be for general rubbish but unfortunately the dustman didn’t take it. That really was the only negative, everything else was perfect.

The cottage is comfy and cosy.

If you're looking for peace and quiet this is the place to stay! Spent lots of time bird watching on the lawn overlooking "our" river. Its very dog friendly and the owners have thought of everything. Didn't go out much it was too nice to leave!

We had a brilliant holiday at Clamoak Cottage.

The cottage was much larger than we had expected and was well furnished, clean and cosy. We were especially grateful for the cream tea welcome pack, and doggy treats for Katy-Jane. The garden was beautiful and the fact it fronted onto the River Tamar was the icing on the cake. Katy loved going for her daily swim. We certainly hope to return again in the not too distant future.

The cottage is spacious and well appointed.

It is comfortable and attractive with superb location and wide views over tidal estuary. Secluded quiet location. Attractive garden at rear. Lots of opportunity for walks on Bere peninsular yet not far from amenities - small local shops at Bere Alston, How could you not like this place? We would like to return there next year but equivalent week already taken and nearest available June week in 2020 is more than £200 more expensive.
