“We booked 12 Horizon View some months before travel and then noticed in October someone had left a scathing review on the property and wondered what we would find when we finally arrived.”

We were notified of the codes and check in information in plenty of time, and on arrival were greeted by Reception and advised how to access the lodge. First impressions were good, the landscaping of the site is very well kept and there was easily parking for 2 cars with a stunning view from the lodge looking across the valley towards Liskeard. Unlike airbnb's these days where there is usually some milk, bread and cleaning products supplied, you do get the basics to start you off such as washing up liquid and a few tea bags but nothing else (excluding amenities kit in the bathroom), this is self catering after all. There is a very well stocked Spa just up the road in Dobwalls which I would recommend initially popping in to get your essentials, rather than drag further a field. Once unpacked and settled we did notice that there were some issues, but this was clearly an older lodge and not new. In short a few loose cupboard doors that did not open/shut properly but were secure and did not appear in any way dangerous, with some very minor paint flaking around one of the rooms, the coffee machine was missing in the kitchen and the tv had previously been disconnected by someone (presumably using their own streaming kit) but easily reconnected - we raised this to Reception for information only and they did kindly offer to fix them, however, given they were minor we opted to just leave everything as it was. Now, this is being very picky and if that would put you off then fair enough, however, when our extended family, who were local, popped in for a nose they did not notice any of this and thought it was a lovely location and lodge. For what we needed it was not an issue and overall this did not detract from us enjoying our stay. We did not expect 5* accommodation (due to previous review) but then we also didn't pay what I would consider a 5* price either. Considering the view, the amenities and that electricity, heating and wifi is included, the cost seemed very fair for the weeks stay over the holiday period and the property was perfect for the 4 of us plus our furry friend. If you have an older dog it might be worth taking a carpet runner with you as it can be quite slippery in the lounge area for them. After a minor mishap with toothpaste in our luggage, the inclusion of a washer/dryer in the lodge was also welcome. The hot tub was also ready for use and perfect to enjoy an evening under the stars. We have noticed that the lodge has now been removed from rent so it would seem the owner/site manager has opted to renovate for the next season following our comments to them and/or the previous review. Irrespective, would we stay here again - definitely.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us such an informative and lovely piece of feedback Sean, we honestly appreciate this so much. I am delighted to hear that you and your relatives enjoyed the lodge, but sorry that there were a couple of small issues when you arrived. Just to let you know that you can still rent this particular lodge, just not in the same spot on the resort. It has now been relocated to 3 Faraway Fields and had quite a lot of renovation work done, so if you decide to return to stay with us again, please do check it out! Warmest wishes, Sally, Charteroak Guest Services Property Owner
