“Sorry but with issues throughout the lodge it really wasn't a great stay.”
The shower support in the main bathroom was broken prior to our arrival, neither of the two bedroom TVs we used worked one had very few channels the other would not tune in at all. There was a large amount of black mould on the ceilings in both the main bathroom and ensuite The shower hose was so covered in mould it was coming off as the shower water hit the hose. We made sure this was cleaned before we next used the shower. I didn't pay attention to the comments of others regarding the bed in the main bedroom. It has a very soft noisey mattress that is so uncomfortable and wakes you up every time you move with the noise of the springs. The 2 sofas are just as uncomfortable the table is sticky due to the varnish needing replacing It was also covered in fluorescent pink pen as is the carpet in one of the bedrooms. The vacuum cleaner doesn't work well as the beater bar doesn't work. There was no hand wash in either the main bathroom or ensuite no cleaning products at all in the property only soup spoons no dessert spoons. Quite limited cooking utensils, the frying pans have seen better days. No cafetier which we found odd as pretty much every lodge we've stayed has one. The fridge is broken and only has one shelf remaining useable on the door. There's no foil or baking paper no rubbish sacks or bin liners in the kitchen not even a spare loo roll. It appeared that all the little bits that most owners have in their lodges have been removed. I will add that the shower support was replaced by Southern Halt maintenance staff after the cleaning staff reported this . Such a shame as this is our third stay at Southern Halt and this is not the usual standard.
Thank you for your feedback Mark, we really appreciate you taking the time to leave us your thoughts. I am so sorry to hear that you encountered issues in the lodge during your stay, as obviously this is not something we would wish for our guests. I have spoken with our maintenance team who have visited the lodge since your stay to check the televisions and make sure that they are working correctly, which they appeared to be. I have also passed your comments regarding the mould issue on the ceilings and shower hose, the pen marks on the carpet, the faulty vacuum cleaner, the spoons and the lack of a cafetiere to the housekeeping manager and these have all been resolved. Unfortunately, as the lodges are self catering and have always been this way, we do not provide the items you mentioned. This is mainly due to the fact that most guests would prefer to use their own items and not leftovers from previous guests and we do provide a toilet roll in each bathroom to get you through your first night, just in case you have forgotten some. The mattress and sofa are sadly a personal preference, however I have passed your comments regarding the sticky table to the owner, who has agreed for this to be resolved as soon as possible.
Once again I apologise for the issues you encountered and thank you for letting me know, hopefully your experience will not put you off and you will come back to stay with us again in the future.
Warmest wishes, Charteroak Guest Services
