Watchtower
Description
Looe 6 miles.
Watchtower is a lovely, single-storey house nestled peacefully near a beach in a row of charming 19th century coastguard cottages in Downderry, Cornwall.
Seaward-facing, it boasts uninterrupted, panoramic sea views of Rame Head and Eddystone lighthouse from the garden and dining area.
Great care has been taken by the owners to retain the original character of the cottage, making it truly homely and welcoming.
Taking advantage of the wonderful outlook, the lounge/dining area has double aspect windows and offers a lovely, sunny spot for watching the world go by.
The pale blue country-style kitchen is well-equipped, and the four comfortable bedrooms offer restful sanctuaries - each complete with a selection of books.
Outside, the lawned garden is perfect for family gatherings, right above the sea with a fantastic azure vista.
Enjoy your morning coffee alfresco and relax to the sound of waves lapping the shore.
Everything you could need for your holiday is close by at Watchtower; just a short walk to the village centre will bring you to a beach shop, with a community shop opening soon and the excellent Bewshea's By The Beach Restaurant and traditional Inn on the Shore, which offers a range of locally-brewed ales.
When you are ready to explore, this beautiful corner of the county has much to see and do.
Spend lazy days on the beach, hire a kayak or boat and see the coast from a new perspective, walk the coastal footpath or discover the Lanhydrock Estate, Looe Monkey Sanctuary, or the fantastic Adrenalin Quarry with its 490m-long zip wire and giant A-frame cliff top swing!
Enjoy all this and more from a scenic, seaside stay at Watchtower.

What guests are saying
We had a fabulous stay, and each time we returned back from a day out it gave us a hug.
We loved it. Two points 1, the toilet seat was broken in the main bathroom 2, the lack of door on the ensuite, I prefer Not to hear toilet functions Two mini sliding doors could be fitted.
Stayed at 10 of Sykes listed properties and this is the worst.
Beds uncomfortable springs bad on 2nd double bed.Lounge chairs, sofa not as in picture grey and need deep cleaning. Cleaners advised us of spills on carpet cracked toilet seat from previous guests. Mould on shower tray , tiles etc. Place smelled of damp and oil heating. We left after 2 nights and sent report to Sykes with photo’s. Still waiting to hear from them as can take up to 30 days. Been to 5 other Downderry properties all so much better than this.
The location on the beach was amazing but the Property was not clean, kitchen cupboards draws handles all sticky and dirty inside, webs and dust everywhere (floors, window seals, furniture, ceilings) dump smell everywhere so bad that 2 bedrooms we could not sleep in it, garden furniture full of bird droppings.
You can see that they tried to cover the mould in the bedrooms by the fresh paint flaking off the walls onto the beds and the dehumidifiers scattered around the property. The beds and mattresses were of a terrible quality so not much rest. Spent a day cleaning before we could start enjoying the location. It’s a shame as a deep clean and a bit of DIY could make this property a real gem.
