Elvan Cottage

We really enjoyed staying at Elvan Cottage.

We enjoyed spending time in the hot tub. The cottage is very well laid out with some individual and quirky design features. I would recommend Elvan Cottage for family groups and couples. The cottage also has a kennels and cattery close by so if you need care of Dog/cat during your stay it is available.

Clean, comfortable, cosy and full of character.

Elvan Cottage is a great base for exploring the area. It’s very peaceful but is close to the A38 for quick and easy access. The bed was comfy, the kitchen well equipped and the hot tub a lovely luxury at the end of the day. Matt made us very welcome, calling before we arrived to give directions, check bedding arrangements etc and gave us a personal tour on arrival. The only downside was the flaky copper cable internet but we had enough mobile signal to use data instead when necessary. We really enjoyed our stay.

Absolutely lovely place to stay in a very peaceful location, hosts Matt, brother and Sausage the cat very welcoming nothing too much trouble, if down that way again would definitely stay there highly recommend.

What a great place to stay!

The cottage was clean, comfy, well equipped, spacious and had a quirky feel about it, perfect for us! There was even a resident cat called sausage who dropped by to see us regularly. The owner Matt was a really nice chap and very helpful. Obviously a lot of thought went into this place, well worth a visit. Only a couple of criticisms, we found the beds rather uncomfortable. We are in our 60's so maybe someone younger would be OK. Also there is no canopy over the hot tub so we didn't use it due to the showery weather . But very happy with our stay.

We booked both cottages for our family after a previous visit.

Both cottages were delightful, clean, great location and had everything we needed and more. As we had booked both we had the full garden area including hammocks, hot tub and bar area etc to ourselves. The space is really safe for children of which we had a young 1.5 year old with us who loved being free. When we next visit Cornwall this will be the first place we try to book. Thank you Matt and Dan for your hospitality.

What can I say other than WOW, we have just come back from a 2 week break at the cottage.

First impression gave a WOW, the photos really don't do it justice. So what can I say. The cottage itself was beautiful, quirky, roomy and so comfortable. The kitchen is brilliant, home from home, well equipped (better than my own home), with large fridge freezer, split level hob and oven, microwave, dishwasher (there is also a laundry on site for your use) The shower room was brilliant with a nice big shower, and instant hot water. Bedrooms were lovely, with comfortable beds, and plenty of room to hang or place clothing with either shelving or drawers depending on which room you use. Oh and the second toilet is quite a masterpiece. Outside is the hottub situated in the midst of what seems like a very old orchard, with very pretty views over the surrounding countryside. There is also the well equipped outdoor bar and a gas bbq. (We didn't use these. The location is approximately 5 minutes to the A38, brilliant for getting about. Although there wasn't a pub to walk to that we found, I could recommend the Highwayman and the Crows Nest which are both nearby for good food. Finally, Matt and Sausage (the cat). A huge thank you to both of them for being excellent hosts, Matt for his care and attention to detail, and to Sausage for checking up on us daily and for the additional cuddles. If you are looking for something a little different, but homely too, this really is well worth a visit.

Matt is a very welcoming and attentive host. The cottage is comfortable in a quiet location and central for many attractions including the coast, the moor and the Eden Project. Recommended.

Lovely cottage, very well renovated and furnished.

Underfloor heating in living space is great. Hot tub and outdoor area work well. Welcomed by the owner who was very helpful throughout our stay.

We stayed at this amazing cottage for a week.

Matt, our host, was very welcoming and friendly. On arrival, there was complimentary milk, fresh juice, biscuits and flowers. The cottage was spotless and provided everything and more, needed for our stay. The farm cats (Dominic and Sausage) were an added bonus for us (cat lovers). Both are very friendly. The hot tub was luxurious, and has great views. 10/10. Looking forward to staying again soon.

Elvan cottage is a beautifully decorated and well thought out holiday home.

The property has everything we needed and was central to everywhere we wanted to visit for our second week in Cornwall. Nothing was more than an hour away! The outside space was ideal for our two lively children (10 and 6) with the hot tub and gardens appreciated. We even managed a BBQ! Thanks for a great welcoming stay. We miss sausage the Cat already!

Great place to stay to discover Cornwall from.

Regular visit from the cats always very welcoming. Matt and Dan very accommodating. Cottage was outstanding. Only two things we would recommend, a mirror in the main bedroom and possibly an air fryer after setting the smoke alarm off twice when using the grill, our fault as we stopped using the oven grill at home. Think we gave Matt and Dan a fright.

Such an amazing property with so many quirks.

Photos don't do it justice. Just beautiful. Great location to visit loads of wonderful places and owners were friendly and helpful. Would definately return. Such a happy holiday. Would 100% recommend! We have 2 young children who loved it just as much as us. Especially the telephones and phone box! Hot tub was huge and outside area fantastic.

Matt, the host was very helpful and we enjoyed a lovely week in this peaceful cottage. A good base for visiting north and east Cornwall, and Sausage, the resident cat, welcomed us back every day on our return.

Really enjoyed our stay at Elvan Cottage.

The cottage itself had everything needed for a family of four. The quirks of the telephones to the rooms were entertaining! Outside there was plenty of space for two energetic boys to throw a ball around and the hot tub was most welcome! The cottage is set in a great location with the A38 only a few minutes away giving links to East and West as well as Bodmin Moore and Looe and the amazing coastline. Matt and Dan were very welcoming. I would not hesitate in recommending this to others

What an amazing cottage.

Loved all the quirky bits including the telephones. Such cool decor and well thought out. After 25 years of holiday cottages/apartments/lodges etc in the UK this is probably in the top 3. Highly recommended. Matt and Dan are great guys and of course we can't not mention Sausage the cat. Thank you for everything. We look forward to returning as soon as we can.

Matt is a fab host and the cottage is a home from home with all modern facilities in a country setting. Charming cottage, very comfortable and located in a great place to move around Cornwall. We loved it and will be back!

We loved our stay at Elvan Cottage.

It's clear to see that this place during construction has been a labour of love. Matt and Dan have struck a perfect balance between modern and rustic charm. Yes it's got all you would expect from a top class stay but also many of the original buildings features, exposed beams some beautiful original doors. I won't spoil it for you but even the smallest room in the cottage has had so much time and thought put in to it, that it's a joy every time you open the door. There are tech treats also with TVs in every bedroom and in the lounge, kitchen diner. Antique telephones adorn the bedrooms and kitchen but not just for decoration purposes they actually work and not only work but you can control the outside lights by dialing a number. What witchcraft is this....? Very clever stuff. During our stay the weather was awful but the cottage was warm dry and welcoming with a combination of underfloor heating and radiators, the shower room was large a the shower powerful. All the boxes for a perfect stay were ticked. We didn't use the facilities outside but there's a hot tub and changing shed, outside honesty bar, and two BBQs gas and charcoal, all shared with the adjoining cottage. The WiFi was a little hit and miss but this was explained by Matt on arrival. This didn't cause any issues but could if you really needed a good connection. The cottage is conveniently located off the A38 just a 10min drive from Liskeard in the beautiful Cornish countryside yes the short drive from the main road is narrow but it's probably less than a mile and very quiet. We found getting to most of the Cornish hotspots quick and easy from Elvan cottage we would stay again in a heartbeat. The photos on Sykes are good but see for yourself and you will be finding new things in the property for days... Thanks Matt, Dan and Sausage the cat❤️ we hope to see you again. We had both cottages this week, me and my daughter we had an amazing time now this is the fourth time I’ve been back and hope to go back many more times.

It’s just so chilling and lovely and Mat and Dan and dad and sausage and Dom of all amazing

Lovely cottage everything you need and more idealy situated for trips to Looe, Polperro, Bodmin and much more quiet and peaceful hide away.

The cottage was lovely nice and quiet even though the kennels were there we couldn’t hear the dogs, a warm welcome from Matt when we arrived

This was our second visit to Elvan Cottage.

Good on site hosts Matt and Dan who are always up for a chat and good to see the cats again, Sausage and Dominic. Sausage the cat spent quite a lot of time in the cottage with our son while we were there. A great and quiet base location for exploring Cornwall and Devon. Golitha Falls and Carnclaze Cavern are both worth a visit as they are local and Golitha is free. Arriving back at the cottage after a long day out we like to relax and use the hot tub and also the internet. However, the internet was almost non existent for most of our stay this year and we ended up connecting using mobile data. I would still recommend this property as it’s a lovely location. There are thousands of places to visit (near and far) and we just scratched the surface. When you book this place you won’t be disappointed.

Hidden gem of a cottage.

All the facilities that were needed are provided. Lots of space in the rooms and great outdoor space. Handy for A38, which enables you to explore Cornwall. Matt was really helpful, a great host.

Really lovely cottage and the owners were really helpful with some homey quirks in the cottage and surrounding grounds to look out for!

The Surround sound was a nice surprise as we enjoy music with boardgames and dinner. Any questions we had were dealt with quickly and efficiently. Easy driving distance from the eden project and lost gardens of Heligan. I'd recommend a visit if you stay here

The girls loved being outside and on the rope swing many an hours were spent there when we'd returned from day trips. The owners are fabulous and accommodating which make this property a real gem to return to. Happy memories

Excellent holiday home Everything you need and so much more !

Lovely venue for 4 people or 8 if you include the adjacent cottage.

Property build to a very high standard with nice quirky touches and good use of old and new materials. Large grounds with shared hot tub, honesty bar and barbecue. Plenty of off road parking. Friendly owners Dan and Matt reside on site if you were to need them. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at an excellent venue and would have no hesitation in recommending it.

Cats Communications and Quirkyness.

If you love cats then you are really going to love this place. We were met at our cottage by Sausage, one of the resident cats, who own the properties. Sausage showed us into our cottage closely followed by the human he owns, Matt, who did all the talking for Sausage. Sausage and his feline friend Dominic were never too far away, either patrolling the grounds or asleep on the kitchen floor. We were told that if either was still in at 9:30pm to kick them out as they have to do their rounds with Matt at night. We duly removed Sausage one night at 9:30pm but when we opened the door again at 11pm he invited himself in and went straight up the stairs to where our son was sleeping and spent the entire night asleep on the bed with our son. A few nights later while we had the front door ajar Dominic decided to invite himself in and curl up on the sofa next to my other half while we watched a film. The two cats were lovely. Sausage is quiet and very chilled but Dominic will hiss and bat you then ask for his head to be rubbed. On arrival, as soon as we walked in, my other half did point out to Matt the cobwebs. There were cobwebs in every room but we didn’t let it detract from the overall cleanliness and presentation of the property. Incidentally, the cottage actual owners run a cattery and boarding kennels so anyone wishing to take a pet with them may do so by prior arrangement. The directions to the property given by the owners are a bit long winded and over complicated. If following sat-nav, as you get close to the property, turn off your sat-nav and just follow the signs to GLENDALE boarding kennels (Pic of a dog on the sign too) – simplest way. I went on google earth the night before and found it that way. The day before we arrived, we received a phone call from Matt asking if we had any questions about our cottage or the stay, which was a nice touch. There were fresh flowers in the kitchen diner on arrival and some fresh milk and orange juice which again were nice touches. I am sure our son mentioned finding some biscuits but we didn’t see these! The location is tranquil although you can sometimes hear distant noise from the A38. While sitting in the hot tub on an evening you can see trains across the valley using the Moorswater viaduct, which in itself is worth a visit as there is an earlier, Brunel design with some pillars remaining, alongside the newer, Margary design one. There is a telephone system installed in the cottage which links everywhere on site as an intercom type system. You can call between rooms or even to the phone box or garden bar. The phone system can even be used for switching lights on and off. It really is an amazing set up and if you get the chance, ask Dan for a behind the scenes look at what goes into making it all work. It’s truly mind-blowing stuff. Next to the large hot tub is a garden bar with an honesty fridge full of beer and there is also a gas barbeque and a traditional brickette barbeque for visitors to use along-side outdoor picnic tables. There is a grass area for playing games next to the car park. There is also WiFi in the garden for those that can’t switch off from the outside world. If you get the chance to speak with Dave you can learn a lot of history about the place and how it turned from a farm into holiday lets and boarding/cattery. The kitchen and breakfast bar was big with a cooker, fridge, freezer and dish washer and all the required utensils and usual electrical goods. The downstairs bed was big and comfortable and our son said he liked the upstairs bed. The living room TV was much bigger than it looked in the photos. The property was high tech and quirky throughout with surround sound system & Bluetooth. There was even a little automatic LED lamp in the bowl of both toilets so you didn’t have to turn on the light when getting up in the night, simple but brilliant. There are two large leather sofa's in the living room. The bath room comprised of a nice rain shower with a separate hand help shower head, a hand basin, towel drying rail and a toilet. Some of the great places we visited. Carlyon Beach – a lovely sandy beach with crabbing opportunities for the kids and free parking if you get there before 9:00am. Downderry – lovely little place with a car park, toilets, coffee shop and a stony beach. Looe, Seaton beach, Polperro, St Germans – off the beaten track and well worth a walk down to the harbour. Eliot, and numerous other great places of interest for adults and kids. You will never be bored. Right people, right location, right time to visit. Would we stay here again? It’s a big yes. The cats made it feel very homely.

What a fantastic time had by myself and my 2 girls, loved the time spent with Matt and his team, we were truly looked after.

Will definitely be back, the attention to detail is what caught our eye and the quirky features. Clean with an lovely open plan detail, the jacuzzi and garden were amazing plus the BBQ area.

Stayed here for a fortnight, from the beginning made to feel extremely welcome from Matt and shown all facilities as well as a welcome gift of Orange, milk and fresh flowers which were repeated again the second week.

The cottage was comfortable, quirky, well equipped and handy for Liskeard and train services. Both Matt, Dan and their Father were really friendly and very approachable. A fortnight we'll spent.

Matt was on hand with a warm welcome when we arrive after a 600 mile journey down from Scotland. Took us around to show us everything we needed to see and know for our stay. Fresh flowers, milk, tea , coffee and orange juice in cottage for arrival. Cottage itself, stunning, everything you needed and more for an exceptional stay. Hot tub great.. Matt, Dan and of course Sausage and Dominic the cats made us so very welcome it was well worth the drive. We have no hesitation in recommending Elvan Cottage. We will certainly be back. Fantastic holiday cottage!

Very comfortable, spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped. Great location, well placed for day trips and exploring the local area. Fresh flowers, milk, orange juice and biscuits on arrival. The hot tub was a welcome treat. Highly recommend. Thank you Matt and Dan!

We found Elvan Cottage purely by chance and were not disappointed.

It is an airy cottage with some modern 'quirks' and the hot tub is a welcome treat at the end of a long day walking. Matt is a great host - very welcoming. We appreciated his call 24 hours beforehand to check everything was OK for our visit. The cottage is centrally located in order to explore both the north and south coastal towns of Cornwall. Would thoroughly recommend. Also impressed with Sykes Cottages too.

Honestly Matt and Dan were literally AMAZING hosts.

Quirky and lots of really nice details. The host was great and we loved the hot tub in the orchard. We would recommend and definitely going to go again.

Its modern decor is a delight, with all mod cons and it’s very comfortable and well equipped. Matt and Dan, are great hosts, they are there to help with any issues, even if you lock yourself out, whilst enjoying a relaxing soak in the hot tub

We had such a lovely time, Elvan cottage was above and beyond our expectations in a very picturesque position and ideal for venturing out to explore Cornwall .

Elvan Cottage was beautiful and great location as a base to visit most parts of Cornwall.

Having the kennels on site is great as we were able to have days out with our dog and also leave her at the kennels on days where taking a dog would not be suitable. Lovely orchard area with hot tub and outdoor bar, Matt was a great host and very welcoming.

Beautiful cottage with excellent facilities in a perfect location to explore Cornwall.

We could not fault the cottage in anyway. Good size garden with plenty of room for bbq and games eithe the added bonus of the hot tub. The owner was always around and was really welcoming. Would definitely return to this cottage and would recommend it to family and friends .

Location is lovely and picturesque and remote (we didn't try and walk into Liskeard from the property).

Matt, the owner, rang a couple of days in advance to see if we had any questions, which was a nice touch. We had a warm welcome upon arrival by the two brothers and handed the keys and given an introductory tour of the property and the hot tub. Complimentary milk and juice in the fridge on arrival. Elvan Cottage is joined to their other barn conversion so would be well suited for a group of 8 if you're able to book both. Nice big kitchen and breakfast bar with cooker, fridge, freezer and dish washer and all the required utensils. Bed was big and comfortable (there were only 2 of us so we only used one of the bedrooms). The TV in the living room was much bigger than it looked in the pictures on-line. The property was hi-tech throughout with surround sound speakers, bluetooth and LED lights under the toilet seat so that you didn't have to turn the main light/fan on when getting up in the night - an excellent idea! There are 2 large leather sofa's in the living room. Nice rain shower in the shower room, plus toilet and a separate toilet as well. The hot tub was really good. We were left to agree with the occupants of the other property who gets the hot tub when but we didn't need to as we didn't ever want it at the same time during our stay. The outside honesty bar is a great idea and the beers were really well chilled. Wifi also available in the garden area/ outside bar, which was really useful. The outside area also included a couple of hammocks attached to the trees, outside BBQ facilities and large grassy areas to play games etc. There were a couple of cats wandering around which gave it a nice homely feel. Matt was generally around (without being imposing) if you had any issues (we didn't) or wanted any advice about the surrounding areas etc.

We loved this holiday cottage the minute we stepped in.

The photos don't do it justice. It's in a lovely, secluded location and is a total home from home. It's decorated to a high standard and has lots of quirky touches that make it that bit special. A really great combination of all the features of the original barn coupled with all mod cons such as in-built usb ports, underfloor heating and a fab surround sound system. The garden is lovely with a bar and hot tub which we were able to use plenty even though the weather wasn't brilliant. Matt is a great host - called us a couple of days before, greeted us on arrival, friendly and helpful. It's in a great spot too - 5 mins from the A38 so you have easy access to anywhere you want to go in Cornwall. Thanks for a fab holiday - we really enjoyed it.

It has been really well decorated and kitted out with some quirky features and has everything you need for a home from home experience. It’s location is ideal near the A38, yet you don’t hear any traffic and you feel like you’re still in the middle of nowhere. The host is very attentive and really makes sure you’re having a pleasurable stay. Would recommend Elvan cottage to anyone! Perfect set up for two families / two groups of friends with the neighbouring cottage and also the shared garden/hot tub and bar area.

It was brilliant week.

Definitely exceeded our expectations. We were very kindly welcomed by Matt and Dan. The cottage was super modern but with the countryside feeling to it (friendly and cute cat & dog around), had all we needed for a very confortable stay. All very clean and organized. Also, many thoughtfull details. We definetely recommend a stay in there, we loved everything, the cottage, the hottub, the surroundings. Perfect for a relaxing week in nature, enjoying Cornwall.

Elvan Cottage is an exceptional holiday destination, well set out and has a high level of facilities. The property is well situated to visit south Cornwall and Devon but well tucked away if you just want to stay around and just chill out at the cottage. We loved our time there and will most certainly look to go back at some stage.

The owners were exceptionally helpful. The property is extremely high spec and very comfortable. The shower was amazing. The master bedroom does not have zip and link but two twins pushed together, however they are very comfortable with a super king mattress topper. The grounds are lovely and we managed to use the hot tub without any difficulties, even though it is shared with the adjacent property. There is hand sanitizer in communal areas. The location is perfect for exploring the North and south coast. A morrisons outside of town is very useful and Liskewrd has lovely local shops as well.
