“This was our 7th stay at Meadow Lea, which was as wonderful as always.”

The cottage is extremely clean and very well equipped with everything you might need. It’s a real ‘home from home’ and very cosy (especially with the log burner!). The gardens are well maintained, with the autumn flowers giving a lovely display of colour. Meadow Lea is our perfect base for exploring the moors and is in driving distance of both north and south coasts. Thank you Ian and Jennifer; we thoroughly enjoy our stays at Meadow Lea and hope to back next year!

The property

Escape from the crowds to the wild open spaces of Bodmin Moor!

This is a delightful, detached holiday home, situated in ¾ of an acre of beautiful, secluded garden, and with a further 1 ¾ acres of its own fields adjoining the garden, on the edge of the village of Pensilva.

A bridle path immediately beside the drive gives direct access to the Moor, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site and an International Designated Dark Sky Landscape. This property has been a much-loved second home, with the same family, for over thirty years.

It features a very fully equipped kitchen, including a Kenwood, Magimix Food Processor and full range of cooking, roasting and baking equipment.

It has been lovingly maintained and the family bathroom and downstairs shower room have been upgraded for 2021. It retains many of its original features, including wooden beamed ceilings throughout, a large stone fireplace and slate floors and windowsills, and combines this with modern furnishings and appliances. There are four upstairs bedrooms, two being double rooms each with a King size bed, one twin and a room with children's bunk beds.

Mattresses of King size beds are interior sprung, zipped and linked.

Mattress in en-suite bedroom is Vi-Spring Realm, one half firm, other half medium tension.

Mattresses of Twin beds Harrison Posturfil Boucle 3200.

There is a large kitchen, fitted with all the necessary appliances, as well as an adjoining utility room.

The sitting and dining room is incredibly spacious with a large wooden dining table, leather sofas and comfy chairs for the whole family. There is also a grand stone fireplace that houses a woodburning stove, making this the perfect area to relax as a family after a tiring day on the moors or the coast. The adjacent study houses an electronic piano with optional headphones.

There is a Wi-Fi repeater in the sitting room and Wi-Fi works throughout the property. Outside a large private lawned garden includes a patio area with furniture and a BBQ and gives onto two fields, backing onto Bodmin Moor. There is an excellent village shop within half a mile. The South Cornish coast, with the iconic fishing towns of Looe and Polperro is a 30-minute drive from the house, with secluded coves for swimming further East or West.

The fascinating harbour town of Fowey is easily accessible. The dramatic surfing beaches of the North Coast such as Polzeath are an hour away. You are also perfectly placed to enjoy exploring the quaint market towns, excellent National Trust and other houses and gardens and attractions such as the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan in this peaceful corner of Cornwall. This county as a whole is perfectly suited for all manner of outdoor activities from trekking across the moors, coastline walks, long bike rides, surfing, horse riding, golfing and fishing. Due to the size of the property, its ideal location in the beautiful Cornish countryside and the fact it is equipped as a much loved second home, Meadow Lea is perfect for groups who want to experience country living in comfort.

Note: This property has a refundable Good Housekeeping bond of £100.

About the location

PENSILVA

Liskeard 5 miles.

Pensilva is a moorland village with its origins in Cornwall’s tin mining history. This part of Bodmin Moor has all the raw beauty of a wilderness with many well known landmarks including the rugged Cheesewring Quarry, where granite was taken to build Plymouth’s Devonport Dockyard, and also the remote village of Minions, home of the famous Hurlers stone circles. Further west there are spectacular walks to Rough Tor and Brown Willy. There are a host of watersports available at nearby Siblyback Reservoir which is also an excellent spot for fishing. The market town of Liskeard is close by, while the famous fishing port of Looe on the south Cornwall coast is approximately 14 miles away and other noted coastal beauty spots such as Polperro and Fowey are all within close proximity.

Please note: No stag/hen parties or similar
