Kilkhampton village has a medieval church, countryside walks, a
children's play area, 2 traditional pubs with eat-in and take-away meals,
a Co-op and Spar shop, a pizza parlour / burger bar and a Chinese
take-away a mile down the road.
The National Trust beach at Sandymouth Cove (café and toilets)
Northcott Mouth (snack caravan and toilets) Duckpool Cove and Tamar
Lakes Activity Centre (sailing, fishing, kayaking, café and children’s play
area) are all within a 4 mile drive.
Bude is a very popular seaside resort with 2 well regarded beaches
(including a sea pool) and a well equipped children’s play park.
It has a
large leisure complex with a soft play facility and wave pool.
Around the
corner from the Tourist Information Centre is a fabulous canalside walk
with a castle, craft shops, a sea loch, boating, fishing and cycling.
In
Bude there are 3 large supermarkets (car charging available at
Morrisons) and a plethora of gift shops, cafes, restaurants, modern and
traditional pubs.
Less than half an hour’s drive away is the World famous Clovelly Village,
the huge Milky Way family adventure centre with birds of prey show,
Hartland Quay (not to be confused with Hartland Point) with fabulous
coastal walks and scenery and the aptly named Wreckers Retreat bar
and restaurant, and a surfers paradise at Widemouth Bay.
Within a 45 minute drive north is the Big Sheep adventure centre
(including sheep racing!) the picturesque quayside at Appledore fishing
village, beautiful Instow beach, and the family resort and surfing beach
at Westward Ho!.
Southwards takes you to Crackington Haven Cove,
Tintagel (the original Camelot?) Boscastle Harbour and Port Isaac (the
‘home’ of Doc Martin).
