St Austell is a bustling market town situated close to the beautiful South Cornwall Coast. Take a look at our selection of holiday cottages in St Austell for your next break.
Why a St Austell cottage?
Up until the mid-eighteenth century, St Austell was nothing more than a small cluster of houses and a church. Clay was discovered to the north and west of the village and resulted in a boom of industry. The village grew into a town and many of the buildings you can see today were built. Visit the Wheal Martyn Museum for an insight into the history of the local clay industry. The popular Eden Project is approximately 2 miles from St Austell, and is in fact located in a disused china clay pit. For more local history you can also visit the St Austell Brewery, the largest brewery in Cornwall.
Places to visit near St Austell
St Austell is ideally located for many of the popular destinations and attractions in South Cornwall. The Elizabethan port of Charlestown is just a short distance away and offers plenty of charm - it was used for filming in BBC’s Poldark. Further afield you will find the coastal ports of Fowey, Pentewan and Mevagissey. To the north, Newquay is just over a half an hour drive from St Austell, as is Padstow.
