Life can easily get in the way and often we neglect our mental and physical wellbeing. Here at Cornish Cottage Holidays, part of the Southwestern division of Sykes Holiday Cottages, we have been challenged to help fundraise for the charity Mind.

“Counting steps has been a fun way of starting the New Year with health in mind and it’s become surprisingly competitive!”- James, South West Operations Manager said.

Stepping up to the challenge

CCH STEPS CHALLENGE
Starting on 7th January and running until 4th February, the Cornish Cottage Holidays team competed to see who can reach the highest overall average step count with proceeds being sent to Mind.

Eager to win for both the charity and team pride. It is was hard to find a member of staff who had not stepped up their game in the name of charity, keeping a close count on the steps, Lucy, in our owner department said, “There is some healthy competition in the office.

How Many Steps did we manage?

Between our Redruth and Chagford offices we accomplished a grand total of 3,919,477 steps – between the 16 team members that were recorded, that leaves us with a daily average step count of 8,448, pretty impressive.

This all means that combined we’ve walked as far as from Lands End to John O’Groats and back!

Who are the charity Mind?

Supporting over 513,000 minds across England and Wales, Mind is a truly exceptional charity that focuses on ‘providing advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem.’ This is achieved by campaigning to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. Cornish Cottage Holidays are proud to support such a noble cause.

Long term benefits for the office

Anyone who works in an office is aware, one of the hardest tasks is making sure you regularly keep active. This competition has been very successful in getting staff more active around the office. It has even encouraged more members of staff to go for a walk on their lunch break.

Revelling in the benefits, being active also has massive physical health benefits, but it can also improve a person’s mental wellbeing, by reducing stress and anxiety levels, making for a happier staff and better service for our customers.
