On 6th, 7th and 8th May 2023, people across the UK will celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla. The Cornish are no exception and have organised spectacular celebrations all over the county, from Bude to Penzance. With a week to go before the big weekend, we’ve listed some of the best Coronation celebrations in Cornwall to help find the one for you.

Bude Coronation Events – 7th May 2023

Bude Town Council have gone above and beyond by organising not just a Big Lunch, but a Coronation Ceilidh to celebrate in style. This will take place on The Castle Lawn on the Sunday afternoon and is sure to be a fun-filled event! There will be plenty of free family entertainment, live music and of course, a royal amount of Celtic jigging. With bands playing folk, celtic and blues music all day, Bude’s Coronation celebrations will be a day out to remember.

Bude Sea Pool will also be holding their own big lunch on Sunday afternoon, where they’ll be serving Cream Tea for 300 people! There will also be royal fancy dress and bake off competitions, paddleboarding and live music for all to enjoy.

Newquay Coronation Events – 6th & 7th May 2023

If you’d like to watch the Coronation Ceremony live with a spectacular sea view, Newquay’s Coronation plans are perfect. The Ceremony is being shown on a big screen from 10.00 a.m. on Saturday in Killacourt Gardens with the unbeatable backdrop of the Atlantic ocean. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own picnic to eat on the green, with garden games provided to keep children entertained.

On Sunday, there’s a Coronation Street Party planned for Bonython Road featuring stalls, side shows, Celtic musicians and more entertainment! The event, organised by Newquay Thursday Club, will see a Tea Party from 2.30 p.m. until 4.30 p.m. and a barn dance from 6.30 p.m. until 9.30 p.m.

Penzance Coronation Events – 6th, 7th & 8th May 2023

On Saturday, Heamoor Community Interest organisation have planned a Coronation celebration at Heamoor Old School Field on the edge of Penzance. It’s set to be an exciting day with live music, stalls, fancy dress and a bouncy castle for kids. Refreshments include a tea and cake tent, barbecue and a bar for the adults. The celebrations will run from 2.00 p.m. until 7.00 p.m.

Penzance Council have organised the fabulous PZ Coronation Celebration for Sunday where guests can bring their own picnic to enjoy the Coronation with friends and family. With live music, stalls and free cream teas lined up, we’re sold!

Padstow Coronation Events – 6th May 2023

Padstow Town Council have planned for the Coronation Ceremony to be shown live on a big screen in Wheal Jubilee Parc on Saturday. There will also be free face painting, circus skills workshops and a fancy dress competition. Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnics, although there will be food vendors on site serving great food until 2.00 p.m.

Fowey Coronation Events – 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th May 2023

Coronation Celebrations 2023: What’s on in Cornwall? - Boats on Fowey River

The people of Fowey have plenty to look forward to on the bank holiday weekend. On Friday evening there will be a Coronation celebration, while Saturday will see a Coronation Flotilla at 7.00 p.m. There’s a Civic Service at Fowey Parish Church on Sunday and Squires Field Community Centre are holding a Community Fete on Monday. With a cake competition, fancy dress competition, face painting, cream teas and plenty more, this has all the makings of the idyllic town fete!

Redruth Coronation Events – 6th & 7th May 2023

Redruth’s Coronation Town Fete is set to be an excellent celebration, taking place at Victoria Park on Sunday from 10.00 a.m. until 2.00 p.m. Here there will be live music, games on the lawn and ‘bowls and barbecue’, as well as plenty of dancing, food and drink. There’s also a quirky ‘pot on a plate’ competition with 5 prize categories, where entrants will design their own mini garden on a plate!

In addition to all this, there’s a ‘Right Royal Market’ being held at Market Strand and Market Hall on Saturday morning. With 22 different stalls, there’s sure to be something for you!

Bodmin Coronation Events – 6th, 7th & 8th May 2023

Bodmin certainly knows how to celebrate with a full line up of Coronation celebrations for the bank holiday weekend. There will be food and drink, outdoor games, an inflatable circus and a mini funfair throughout each day.

On Saturday, there will be a live screening of the Coronation Ceremony at Priory Park with a community picnic, music and entertainment. The Coronation Big Lunch will happen on Sunday, where there will be music stalls and more music and entertainment. Monday will see The Big Help Out, an opportunity to meet the community organisations in need of volunteers to help with their great work.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan Coronation Event – 6th May 2023

Coronation Celebrations 2023: What’s on in Cornwall? - Head at Lost Gardens of Heligan

If you’d like to make the Coronation extra special, Saturday’s ceremony is being shown live at the Lost Gardens of Heligan. With a 3.4m screen, you’re sure not to miss a thing! The screening will be followed by music from Les Femmes de la Mer, a Cornish group of singers and not one to miss. Feeling peckish? The venue’s chefs have curated a special menu inspired by the Commonwealth.

Adult Tickets for the day are £27.50 for adults and £9.50 for under 18s. Tickets can be bought on the Lost Gardens of Heligan website.

Eden Project Coronation Event – 6th, 7th & 8th May 2023

Where better to have a Big Lunch than the place that started them? The Eden Project have plenty lined up for the Coronation Weekend, starting with a big screen showing the ceremony on Saturday. Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic, and Games will be provided to keep kids entertained during the show.

On Sunday, visitors will be treated to live music across the site, courtesy of Alex Robinson Trio and a Brass Band. There are multiple talks taking place on Sunday with topics ranging from inclusivity to sustainability. Monday will see more engaging talks for Big Help Day, as well as craft sessions from Black Voices Cornwall.

Trengwainton Garden Coronation Event – 7th & 8th May 2023

Coronation Celebrations 2023: What’s on in Cornwall? - A floral path at Trengwainton Garden

For nature and heritage lovers, the National Trust are running a Coronation Big Lunch on the aptly named Royal Meadow at Trengwainton, near Penzance. Visitors are welcome to bring their own picnic to celebrate the Coronation with family and friends. There’s plenty for kids to do too, with crayons and materials provided for children to design their own flags in red, white and blue.

This event is running on Sunday and Monday. Booking isn’t essential and the event itself is free, though non-members will have to pay for admission.
