Staycations offer positive signs for holiday home owners

Ed Thorn head of Stags, Holiday Complex department, covering the whole of the South West said; “The holiday complex market is experiencing a post lockdown bounce where demand is already outstripping supply with buyers seeking out a lifestyle change in the West Country. While enquiries from new sellers is starting to increase, now would be a good time to seek a holiday complex before the best properties are purchased”.

The number of searches on our website for holiday cottages in Cornwall has grown week on week since the lockdown restrictions were eased and we are seeing a record number of bookings for this time of year.

Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak recently announced a stamp duty holiday until 31st March 2021 for property buyers and this has seen a great boost for the property market in the South West as Ed Thorne said;

“We have seen the holiday home and complex market make a big turnaround in interest since lockdown. Most either wanting a bolt hole for themselves or as a potential investment vehicle with good tax advantages. Since the stamp duty holiday was put in place by the government, enquiries and sales have increased to levels not seen in recent years. In July alone for Holiday Complex sales Stags witnessed a 20% increase in viewings on the same month last year.”
