“We’ve been coming to Newquay several times a year for over 15 years and this is the first time I have felt the need to write a poor review.”

We were told 2 weeks prior to the holiday there was scaffolding at the building but didn’t affect our view (photo showed it was outside the apt next door) or parking and should be completed before our arrival. Upon our arrival on the Friday not only was the scaffolding there it had been moved to outside our apt. We were told 2 weeks prior to the holiday there was scaffolding at the building but didn’t affect our view (photo showed it was outside the apt next door) or parking and should be completed before our arrival. Upon our arrival on the Friday not only was the scaffolding there it had been moved to outside our apt. It was very obvious that the work would be ongoing for a while and we were unable to use the patio. I called Sykes sent photos and asked to be moved. Monday morning the builders turned up and we were asked to move our car as they would be spraying. We parked on the street for the rest of the holiday and couldn’t move it as we would unlikely find another free parking space. Tuesday morning the diesel run cherry picker arrived outside the bedroom windows and for the rest of the holiday this was running from 8 am. One of the bedroom windows was covered in plastic blocking any view. We contacted Sykes several times as I didn't hear from them. They evenutally contacted the owner who was unwilling to offer any compensation for the fact that we had lost two of the facilities advertised. Add to this that whoever was staying above clomped around from 6.30 am every morning – we came home in need of sleep. I have no complaints about housekeeping/property management as there was nothing they could do – they even brought us flowers and wine to thank us for moving our car. The builders were as considerate as they could be. But I feel totally let down by both Sykes and very reluctant to use either again.

The property

Overlooking Towan Beach and out across the bay, By the Sea is magnificently located with partial sea views from the living area, patio and gardens.

Positioned right on the coastal footpath the opportunity to stride out around the headland to Fistral Beach and beyond enjoying magnificent seascapes on the way is right on the doorstep. Set within secure grounds enjoying a southerly aspect facing seaward.

A large Victorian house sympathetically converted and extended into well proportioned apartments, spacious interiors retain the high coved ceilings of the era.

A favourite resort for generations noted for its superb choice of beaches, not all visitors are seeking to ride the ultimate wave, this area appeals to families of all ages.

Light streams through the large windows and patio door through to the open plan living area, fashionably styled for modern living, tastefully incorporating a beautifully fitted kitchen, designated dining area and elegantly furnished with reclining cream leather settees. The door from the living area opens out onto a balcony where time can be spent idly enjoying the captivating vista and the enchantment of waves gently lapping onto the soft golden sands of Towan Beach.

Steps lead down from the balcony onto the communal gardens overlooking the sea, the privacy of the setting is superb.

One pet welcome at £50 per week, and must be kept on a lead in the communal gardens. A short walk will take you to the harbour, beach and Blue Reef Aquarium, or one of the many restaurants and pubs found in the town.

The opportunity to play a round of golf, visit the zoo or boating lake will add variety to your stay.

Access is via security coded electronic gates and each apartment has allocated parking for one car.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £120.

About the location

NEWQUAY

Holywell 6 miles; Perranporth 8.5 miles; Truro 14 miles; Padstow 14 miles.

Newquay is the home of the UK’s surf scene, boasting eleven beaches and over seven miles of golden sand, three major beaches, the National Surf Centre and an endless supply of rolling surf, making it a beachlovers and watersports paradise. The town, with its zoo, sea life centre and varied selection of restaurants and pubs, also promises a holiday to remember. For avid walkers, the South West Coast Path passes in both directions along a stunning coastline of high cliffs, hidden coves and yet more beaches. The quaint harbour and fishing village of Padstow is just 14 miles away, while Truro, with its museums, cathedral, restaurants, and cobbled streets, as well as the Eden Project, can be reached within a short drive. Picturesque St Ives and the Tate St Ives gallery is just a train ride away. In fact, because nothing in Cornwall is far from Newquay, it’s the perfect touring base.

Note: External paint work of the building is expected to commence in March 2024, scaffolding will be erected for a short period of time. Disruption will be kept to a minimum and we do not envisage any problems relating to the sea view or parking. If you wish to book, please contact us for further details.
