Why a cottage in Lizard?

The name derives from the Cornish Lis for 'place' and Ard for 'high'. A recognised area of botanical importance encircled by turquoise seas, there is nowhere else quite like it in Britain.

Surrounded on three sides by the sea, you really do feel like you have found the edge of the world here. The rocks and cliffs of the coastline offer shelter to the tiny fishing villages huddled into their coves, all of which have maintained their traditional appearance. 

The Lizard is known for its geological and mining heritage. Serpentine stone has been quarried on the peninsula for centuries, its red, green and grey hues unique to the area. Close to the Lizard village of Coverack, the junction between the Earth’s crust and mantle can be clearly seen on the foreshore, making it a fascinating spot for geology enthusiasts.

Places to visit in Lizard

The closest settlement to the point, Lizard town, has a community atmosphere with a hub of cottages, cafes and gift shops. The largest village on the peninsula, Mullion, is home to a variety of popular restaurants, shops and pubs as well as the picturesque Mullion Cove.

Or head to Kynance Cove, home to one of the best beaches in Cornwall.
