Porthminster beach at St Ives is large and sandy, and ideally located just below the town's railway station. There is one car park just above the beach, with steps down to the beach. It is possible to reach the beach without using these steps, however, it would involve a 5 to 10 minute walk. There are toilets by the beach, and lots of shops and galleries in the town. The cafe/restaurant just next to this beach comes highly recommended and enjoys beautiful views of the beach and to the town beyond. Lifeguards are on duty in the peak season, and the beach has a seasonal dog ban.
