St Just in West Cornwall is Britain’s most westerly town; steeped in history of tin and copper mining you will find an abundance of unused engine houses dotted around the countryside in this area of Cornwall, which has long been designated a World Heritage Site. Within the town and further afield, you will find wild rambling walks along craggy cliffs with cliff castles, colourful valleys and of course, beaches along the way.
St Just is a small town but there is an abundance of activity and nearby sites to keep you occupied and intrigued. There are four busy pubs (The King's Arms, Star Inn, Commercial Hotel and the Wellington Hotel), with three of these serving food as well as the Square cafe, Dog and Rabbit cafe and The Cook Book if you'd prefer alternative food. For everyday provisions, you are spoilt for choice with local bakeries, butchers and a greengrocers in the main square. For those in search of quick convenience, there is also a Co-op supermarket in the town square. The town of St Just in West Cornwall is host to many artists who are drawn there by the stunning coastal scenery and landscape – naturally, the streets are dotted with varied galleries and craft shops displaying locally made goods and gifts.
In the centre of St Just, you will find a theatre called the Plain-an-Gwary which was used for miracle plays in medieval times. It is now used for outdoor theatre events through the warmer months and is especially busy during Lafrowda Festival which takes place each July.
There are any number of places we can recommend you explore and visit while in St Just. You would be a short walk from the sweeping landscape at Cape Cornwall (formerly believed to be Land’s End), the distinctive Cot Valley with it’s huge pebble-like boulders and a healthy ramble from famous mining spots such as Botallack, Geevor and Levant which have both featured heavily in BBC’s Poldark series. Nearby attractions include sub-tropical gardens and estates including: Trengwainton, Trewidden, Morrab Gardens and Trereife Park.
